ever try setting your growbags in a small dollar store swiming pool?? eaasy watering
Love how you went into detail on this video....I feel like I've been growing peppers all my life with that knowledge
@@Gator3000CHA y Ana Piper's Grubb.D*** home girl, I'm hungry.I'm about to chat for day everyday and I'm at work.I don't work for as a erectile problem.Hell I'll clear that up😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
Going to try to winter my peppers this year for the first time. My problem is come the end of the season I get burnt out on the garden chores lol
Try growing marigolds with your tomato plants. Companion plants help alot.
That overwintered plant is gorgeous, love all the woody stems and branches, looks like a tree 😆
Thank you! It's pretty amazing to see. Considering it's this productive at 3.5 years, I have little doubt it can to 5-7 years as a happy, healthy plant.
This dude is so straight forward it’s great
I live in Quebec. I have 48 hot pepper plants planted right now in pots and in my garden. Great vid.
i live in ottawa. I am doing container peppers too :) good luck this year.
We have a mushroom farm about 20 minute from where we live, they dispose of a lot of mushroom compost and twice a year i will fill the bed of my truck with their compost they give away for free, Tomatoes and Peppers grow like mad in this compost and best part, its free
man, I am so impressed by you. You prolly have a full time job, you make videos, educate yourself deeply, flourishing garden, pursue and finish various projects, take care of your dog, AND have time to work out AND cook at home. your output is 3X mine I'm ashamed to admit.
I'm pretty sure this IS his full time job. And probably selling his produce. But who knows 🤷🏽♀️?
Elistari
My brother is like that working a full time job in the city and driving semi on the weekends. But he’s skinny and in his 20s. He’s also an extrovert and not passive. Some people are wired to go. I used to be like that and then slowly changed as I got older. It’s weird how life can change you.
Come on people, this man has the most relatable, clear, concise, teaching video for anyone who needs help in "How To" grow your container garden to the best of its ability. This man is genius and a master gardener.
These are great tips. The only thing I didn't know about was the fertilizer. My most high yielding pepper plants are in 3 gallon pots but some are smaller but still grow fruit. As a first time gardener I am most proud of these guys.
Poor Dale. Pretty boy. You're doing the best thing for him. Let him shelter in place and tell him he's a good boy.
I'm in Houston and use grow bags for almost everything right now. I have had horrible luck with the black bags becoming mini ovens, but tan bags are available in most sizes. They cost a few cents more each but it isn't a large amount. The tan ones are much, much better in terms of not drawing in so much heat and my water needs have been very reasonable.
Yea, the landscape fabric too. I use a light grey fabric because the black fabric turns my garden into a hot-plate
I don't know why I haven't thought of that! I have all black bags and I'm in the high deserts of southern az. Tan bagsit is!
Good tip! I'm in Houston also. Someone gave me a couple of grow bags and I've been wondering what to plant in them since I grow most things in the ground. We just got a green house for our ornamental plants. I might spray paint the exterior of my grow bags and try peppers in them.
This is a valuable tip. I live in Oklahoma where we get high temps and humidity.
In Houston too and use black grow bags for some things. I think you are right .the color does make a difference
I learned the hard way that topping puts your peppers back a month or two. I do remove the bottom leaves, they tend to grow upwards after I do. Btw, there's videos on TH-cam of fireworks for dogs to get them adjusted to it and there's Thunderstorm videos. I did that with my dog and she would sleep through thunderstorms and fireworks. I did the same thing with babies crying and she had no reactions to loud baby crying either.
I had no idea! I'm going to do that for my dog. Thanks for that tip
Im from New Mexico. Im starting around 10 different pepper plants tomorrow in the 5 gallon buckets. Wish me luck by giving this comment a like please🫡🙏
I think overwintering in grow bags has greatly improved my yields. THANK YOU FOR SHARING.
The Millennial Gardener I just found you and LOVE you! I was a young child in elementary school Garden Club and now retired and getting back to it! I've watched a lot of videos but you have been the one I am able to understand the best. You are very thorough and have been SO very helpful. Just watched your pepper & tomatoes vids. Learned a lot and ran right outside to prune the tomatoe. ALMOST was going to prune the pepper plant but decided not to after listening to your reasons no need to. I also made a list of fertilizer products I def need. Again - thank you! SO glad I found you! And I told my daughter in law to check you out as she is just getting into gardening. Bye for now from Northern Michigan
I wouldn't fertilize them quite as much. Last year, I followed your tips and found that I got lots of leaves but fewer fruit on my peppers in grow bags. This year, I'm adding granular fert about once in _6 weeks,_ and liquid fert about monthly. Stockier plants, greater yield.
he qualified it with he gets lots of rain so you really didn’t follow his tips.
@@MichaelRei99 I get lots of rain too. In general, we apply way too much fertilizer.
I only fertilize when the very top of the plant (new growth) is turning a lighter shade of green. Then I know it's time to hit more nutes.
You can get dale something called a "thunder vest or lighting vest" I forget which one it's called but you put it on your pup when it's gonna storm and it's comforting to the dog. My daughter had to dog sit a friend's dog for a couple weeks that got really scared during storms, she would tear up her crate and bust out. The dog was a pittie that was terrified of storms. I told her to get this vest for the dog and it worked. She would sleep right through the storm or just lay down . The owner was so happy I figured out what to do about the nervous energy the dog got during storms because she had once had to replace a bathroom door the dog chewed through while she was out running errands. Also I think it has something to do with the electricity in the air or the barometric pressure dropping.
I love my pepper plants in containers. My dog hates thunderstorms and fireworks. aww Dale.
You and James Prigioni are my favs. Peppers, Tomatoes and green beans are my major crops. Then salad garden and herbs.
I use Greenstalks for all except my tomatoes.
I found myself using about 8 gallons of water for all my pepper and other vegetable plants, so I switched to a hose-end sprayer to apply the solution. Its much easier. Here in west central Florida, with the extra heat, I water 3 times a week on an automated water system and then once a week, I apply the fertilizer solution over the bone meal and granular fertilizer, but I have to be careful with too much fertilizer due to the heat, so I usually prep the plants in good soil with bone meal added, then just use the liquid application every two weeks. My over-wintered peppers usually produce in Spring, then the newer plants come on, so it's like succession sowing.
OMG 😱 your pepper plants are huge 😊 so I definitely will take your advice and appreciate it so very much!
Thank you Thank you !!!!!
Hey... long time lurker first time commenting... I live in a side by side duplex with very little yard, and what yard I have is very shaded by big trees. We've been growing in grow bags and containers for a couple years now, placing them in the areas that get the most sun, like our driveway.
This is the first year we've tried peppers and they are doing AMAZING!
We live in Nova Scotia, Canada and have been having torrential rain followed by scortching sun, so those in ground gardens of my neighbours are not faring as well as our container/grow bag garden.
Thanks so much for all your information, I've learned so much that I've put into practice from watching your channel. I appreciate your knowledge. :)
I had a cayenne in a pot for 4 years and would be my xmas tree too lol! great info thanks!
Good tips on the frequency of fertilizer. I might be under doing it
Fantastic down to earth video on growing pepper plants in containers. Answered all my questions!
My Lab/Husky mix dog hated thunderstorms and fireworks. He would never be at ease until I found by putting him in a bathroom with no windows in the middle of the house, turn on the exhaust fan, put in a radio then turn the light off and close the door and all was fine when the storms were gone or the fireworks were over. Afterwards he would come out, wag his tail, follow me around the house and outside to go to the bathroom and every now and then he would get a treat if he wanted one. The storms and fireworks have a high pitched sound most dogs hear and get upset about. Drown out the sound and all is good.
I had a friend whose dog was terribly afraid of the sounds from 4th of July. His vet gave him doggy valium. Two days preceding, the day of, and the day after. It helped him a lot.
I saved my bell pepper plants over the winter, and I just picked my last one from last year in April! They are already blooming and ready to start a new crop!
Did you Dave the plants over the winter? How do store them?
@sherrymckee130 I put the pots under my covered patio. The temps got into the low teens for about a week. Our patio is U shaped and covered, so my husband draped a tarp over the opening and put a heater in there. They were planted Spring of 23, and they look rough, but are starting to sprout new growth and are already blooming!
You could also put them in a garage if temps get too low. As long as they're above freezing, they stay outside on the patio.
One of my Yorkies is so afraid of storms! Up all night sometimes! Going to try over winter some pepper plants this year! We plant 200 plants out side for selling! Thanks for the good videos! Happy Planting !
I'm a new subscriber and have found your tips and tricks to be very helpful. I am growing just a tomato plant in a pot(3 Gal) and basically was just watering it with an initial fertilizer. It was definitely riding the struggle bus. Watched your video on tomatoes, trimmed them up, tapped the flowers, added more fertilizer and wha la. It shot up and is now producing fruit and more fruit starting to show. Thank you! Think I want to do peppers and cucumbers now as well 😀
That's awesome! Definitely grow cucumbers they are my favorite. Try to grow them up a trellis. That seems to work best for me.
You do a great job, keep it up. Spread that knowledge.
Wow, I learned quite a few new things! Thanks!
Your videos are so encouraging, thank you!
Best gardening videos available in my opinion! Thanks ❤
Thank you! I just transplanted one of my yolo wonder bell peppers in a 5 gall bucket today.
Thanks for all your HELPFUL Pro Tips. I am in zone 9B (Las Vegas) and my pepper plants are doing just fine in our crazy triple digits temps. I have lost a few other plants but I'm not worried because I will just get my amended soil ready for my Fall planting. I had a 40lbs bag of potting soil leftover from my planting this season. I have two peppers in 7 gallon grow bags and they are loving it. I have a few 3 gallon bags also so, I might plant more peppers in those. I love your channel and you NEVER disappoint with the helpful "Pro Tips" Be Blessed and Enjoy your Sunday. I'm Ms J from Las Vegas!
Thanks for the tips, I am doing my first garden at my new house and will definitely use these
Nice reminder about peppers in containers.. thank you!
You’re welcome!
I love the pepper tree!
Very informative. Thank you. I’m growing a variety of peppers in 3 gal cloth pots and they are doing just fine. I will definitely take your tips and apply them throughout the growing season.
I love watching your videos. I had a pepper plant growing for 3 years in my hydroponics bay. I finally replaced it with lettuce but dried and kept the seeds and now they are all growing outside. I will be bringing a few of them in for winter.
Thank you! Your videos are the best!
Thank you for that information because I thought my pepper plants stop growing doing the winter. Now I know. Right now I'm just waiting for my new seeds to come in. Thanks again again
It's been a strange year, for western PA and much of the north east, thanks to the wildfires in Canada. We spent much of June and early July with air quality warnings and a persistent haze. On the down side, many of my "hot weather plants" have been slow growing, but on the plus side, my "cold weather crops" are still going strong.
I'd been giving my containered peppers the water soluble fertilizer, but hadn't thought about the solids. I'll start doing that more frequently.
Oh man, I've been fertilizing like two or three times a year in grow bags and wondering why the plants are so sick. Sounds like I need to massively step up my game.
Yup. Im fertilizing every week
Thanks for all the helpful hints 😊
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
I've been gardening for years and I have learned so much from you! My favorite you tube channel ever! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
I appreciate that so much! I'm glad the videos are helpful.
1:07, I definitely had fun watering my bell peppers twice a day during the summer last year. Even watering them a lot in the morning just wasn't enough to keep their leaves from drooping later on in the afternoon.
I just heard you mentioning the pepper plants are perennials; I realized that when my three peppers were still producing into January until I had a light freeze that destroyed them. They would otherwise still be alive right now.
Your knowledge about gardening is very helpful!! Thank you MG😊👍👍
You’re very welcome! Thank you for watching!
OMG I absolutely LOVE this channel. Highly informative & straight to the point.
I appreciate it! Thanks for watching!
I just love these videos. Always a ton of useful information and professionally presented. This video was great as most of my gardening is in containers. Can't wait to get planting , but here in PA we're still about 6/8 weeks away. Thanks Millennial Gardener for helping take my garden to the next level.
Great informative video!
Thanks for sharing all your knowledge.
I love watching your videos.
Great video, I'm going Serrano chili's right now in 3 gallon nursery containers. Thanks man
Very excited to try your tips! Great Post!
That last pepper looks awesome! 😍👌
glad to know i should be fertilizing much more often
perfect! i want to grow peppers to make my own hot sauces every year and this seems nice and easy!
It's never this easy.
You’re good! Much respect.
👍👍
❤for our special Dale
Great video! Wow, so much I didn't know about peppers. I never heard of over wintering them, great concept.
Learning so much from your channel! Keep up the great work.
Thank you for thos awesome Information. I've been struggling with container planting and this is so helpful.your so through and I formative 😊 ..I will have happier plants this year
This is a top top video for pepper tips 👍🏻 no wonder my peppers don’t grow as fast as I want them to. Thankyou again, you are the king of container gardening ❤
Glad it was helpful! I appreciate you watching!
Beautiful video with lots of information. Getting excited about my peppers 👍🏼🌱💚💚💚
I have a Owari Satsuma Dwarf Mandarin Tree on the way thanks to your great advice. I'm going to plant it in a grow bag. I live in the Pacific Northwest and am looking forward to enjoying some sweet mandarins.
Sun’s Out… Gun’s Out!
This is great stuff! ❤
I learned quite by accident that peppers grow so profusely in a 3 gallon bucket was so glad to discover this had more but present ever and I overwinter them. Thank you for all your work.
Peppers do fantastically well in containers. I'm guessing the stress of the container forces fruiting. I'm growing a cherry pepper in a pot that's 4 years old. It fruits for me all winter long.
Love your presentation. And your ideas. Very helpful tips. 😊
Really great video. 👍
I'm north of the boarder and you still included advice for me. Cheers
Thanks for the video. Went out and fertilized my pepper plants after watching this. I started growing them in pots last year, protected from the cold and they are now some of my favorite plants and started a few more from seeds this year. Could you do a video about transplanting older potted pepper plants and do you do root trimming? Thanks again! I've been able to keep my fig trees alive with your help too (lots of water and mulch) Tucson, AZ
Really good practical info regarding pepper production! Good tips on fertilizer applications.
I like your videos, I grow my bell peppers in 6gal containers and fertilize with fish emulsion once a week. They do great every year, I have 8 plants total and I picked over 20 this past Saturday.
Thank you so much!
Well hey there neighbor! I’m in Eastern NC right near the beach ☀️🏖️🌊
I have banana peppers and bell peppers three years old as well. I’ve been overwintering for years.
Ha ha me to I've been overwintering my peppers since I saw you doing it a couple years ago. Thanks again
I got a Thunder Shirt for my Aussie for storms and fireworks. When she got stressed, she would pace around with a toy in her mouth. That was a clue to get the vest. The vest helped her a lot. She was anxious but I could still take her out for a walk.
It does make a significant difference. Dale now wants it during storms. If it starts thundering and I get it out, he walks over to get it put on, so it clearly helps him.
I want to be inspired, I really do. Our heat index has been 115° the past two weeks and I... just...can't. My pepper plants can't take it. Eggplant, thriving and still fruiting. Even keeping the indeterminate tomatoes alive just for the heck of it. But everything else can't take it either. I'm really happy for you, though!
That is awsome! Gonna try that with some sweet peppers and pepperocini.
You can also grow them under grow lights in the winter, indoors. I lower the Nitrogen fertilizer once they start flowering and increase the Phosphorus. I've had mine for over 3 years and every two years, in the spring, I change out the soil and trim the roots. They seem to love it.
You are so awesome! I just love this channel!
4:28 thank you! buying some now.
Very timely video. I am having really good production from my pepper plants this year but your video has reminded me that I need to feed them. Thanks. 😎
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
❤❤❤ Thanks for sharing.❤❤❤
In New Mexico and I ended up having to out up a shade for my babies during the summer. They looked rough and the summer sun gets intense. Just got some grow bags and cant wait to see how they do. Will definitely fertilize more too. Thanks!
great vid I do everything you said plus I use saucers to catch the runoff and I use 3 gal. fabric pots.
Thanks for this! I'm growing in my balcony and have introduced gardening to my friends too and we are learning! Would be interested to know more about container growing and tips
Thank you Anthony, very helpful advice as l am currently growing indoor Cayenne and Carolina Reapers for the first time. I wanted to let them grow the way they like and you have helped to confirm my instincts. I will add that l intend to powder the Reapers into empty supplementary capsules because l am a little concerned about eating them. Thank you for sharing and best wishes. Jason from Melbourne Australia.
PS. I hope l have your name correct. My apologies if l don't.
Love the banana trees
Awesome information. Love your style of delivery! Just started to garden this year. I put 3 chili pepper plants in 2G containers. They haven't been growing as much as I'd hope. I think I made the container mix TOO DENSE. The water gets logged in even though the drainage is OKAY but I think they'd prefer something airy.
I also cut off two lower branches to propagate and they're not doing so hot. I think I should have left them on the main plant! My tomatoes are doing fair however! I will learn for next year. Thank you for the videos!
When you repot for overwintering mix some perlite into the soil💪
I agree with you that peppers are perennial ,I planted my peppers in containers they are still alive and they gave me fruits every year. Thank you , I love the way you do your video very informative and very detailed.
Love your videos. You are doing great job
Thanks for sharing.
You’re welcome!
I live in a rainforest forest. Thank you for your advice. I'll do 3 gallon fabric bags and add a regime of liquid fertilizer.
Thanks for the great information!
You’re welcome!
Great video! Very informative!
My dog is absolutely petrified of thunderstorms, and last night was a pretty rough night here in MA. For whatever reason it's been really warm and humid with a chance of storms pretty much every day!
I'm jealous. We have NOT even a drop of rain here in Phx 🙄
El Niño weather system this year
Amazing tips
I'm a rookie so very helpful thank you!
Put the t.v. or radio up high so he can't hear the thunder or fireworks.I had the same problem and come up with this method.
I’m growing over 20 plus pepper in grow bags and different says pots and I can say the ones in the grow bags and pots, are growing way faster than the ones in the garden.
