    I noticed also that I am making a lot of rookie mistakes. I should be better than this. Lol I forgot to add the questions in order. So I thought I'd try comment so that if you're reading this you will know what to do. I hope everyone makes a white king #video themselves.
    One. When did you get your wipe cane?
    Two. Where did you get your white cane?
    Three. Do you customize your king in any way?
    Four. what kind of tip do you use on your white cane?
    Five. What advice would you give to somebody considering getting a white cane?
    Good luck and have fun everyone

    The cane can help in crowded situations with the social awkwardness of close physical proximity to strangers. You can hold it in such a way so that it only comes into contact with the soles of the shoes where they meet the floor of the person you're scootching by on the way across the room. At most the back of your hand or the area of your hand that would make contact in a vertical fist bump might gently touch the person, but not in an uncomfortable or embarrassing way for either one of you. Plus a lot of people will let you know where they are so you can hear them coming, particularly of it is already also a noisy environment. It helps to give a verbal heads up you're coming as well. This makes people more comfortable to just talk with you as you slide by each other in a narrow corridor like on your way back to your table, or up the stage, or outside. They can see through the reserved way you're caning that you care enough socially to not plow into them and extend the same courtesy generally. Your cane be used in some ways to put people at ease. Happy continued white cane month!
    On a side note, the first year, I caned into a giant Frankenstein monster store display in the side of the entrance to Spencer's in the mall. It was not a live person, but a giant store dummy. I was able to politely tell that it was most likely Frankenstein without groping him. The shoes were kind of a giveaway and the torn burlap shirt, and cold wooden abdominals.

    Hi Vinnie, that’s OK, I don’t really know my left from my right and have made that mistake in many of my videos. If you could see some of my videos with Gretchen, I will be pointing right and saying left but that is not why I am commenting. White canes are awesome! It is true that most VIPs, who lose their site after they are born, are somewhat reluctant to using a white cane, embarrassed, awkward or usually some emotion like that. I was no different but like a friend told me one Time, it’s much more embarrassing to fall off a curb or miss a step or run into a wet floor sign and knock over a display case then it is to be seen with a white cane. You just have to get over yourself, right? This was very encouraging and I am the first to admit that my white cane took me,, Very successfully, all throughout Europe a couple of years ago. I traversed cobblestone alleyways and explored castles and descended stone spiral staircases and much much more using my awesome white cane. It is fantastic for exploring your environment. It also keeps you safe. Thanks for presenting this topic so enthusiastically. And you’re right, the cited viewers and subscribers need to share this video and help illuminate the perceived stigma that some still harbor. Great, great video once again. Have a wonderful weekend and stay safe. Love, Beverly

    have you tried a jumbo roller tip? it is a flat disc a little larger than the ball but its flat so its not heavier, and I like that it wears down nicer than the ball, meaning as the edge of the disc wesrs down it does not change the surface area that contacts the ground as much and also does not create a pointed edge like the ball

      I know exactly what you're talking about. That's why I like my new cane because I can collapse it to the point I can put in my pocket. I can hide it when I want to. I have moments as well for the last thing I want is that cane out in the open. I feel like I'm the person in the room saying oh look at me feel bad for me. Or I feel like standing at the top of a table saying busy impaired guy right over here. Lol
      But we cannot doubt and we have to admit all the good things that come from carrying that white cane around. it's not just our safety it's the safety of others as well.
      Great comment always a pleasure to hear from you enjoy your weekend my friend May be blessed

    Liking the shirt, but being from NYC, I guess I’m a bit partial.
    I’ve used many different tips and types of canes in my life so far. I alternate between my folding and straight cane. When I first started, my cane was extremely short, plus I didn’t want to use it, but now my cane is longer than I am tall. 😜
    Any state agency that charges someone for O and M training should be ashamed of themselves.

    • @myvisuallyimpairedlife5674
      @myvisuallyimpairedlife5674  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well I am excited to get a comment from you my friend.
      I agree no agency that's there to help especially non-profit should be charging any blind revisioning individual. But the fact of the matter is they still do.
      I love the association for the planed in New Hampshire however I did get a big bill in the mail. And I argued my way out of it. they only do so much for free before you even telling you you're going to get charged.
      I understand that they are non-profit and they need to get their money somewhere somehow but it shouldn't be from the individuals that are struggling. 98% of the people in my peer support group Don't even have jobs because it's hard to get hired on your blind. I was going to make a video on this topic however I did not want to insult the association that I go to all the time. It's been a very touchy subject for me. I appreciate everything they do for me and I don't want to sound greedy or selfish but there is things that have bothered me since meeting their acquaintances.
      but don't get me wrong they do a lot for me. Just sometimes they have me questioning or shaking my head. Lol

    • @darquequeen2323
      @darquequeen2323 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Vincent Grasso My Visually Impaired Life I agree, you don’t want to come off as being unappreciative of any assistance you receive. I do think about people in other countries who get meager if not any assistance, which is just heartbreaking.
      But, as you also mentioned, the financial part is just bewildering. Trying to gain employment being blind really is a struggle. I was laid off nearly 3 years ago, and no one will hire me, despite my “excellent skill set.” This makes trying to acquire things like assistive technology quite challenging.

    Hey Vincent. Nice vid. You always leave me smiling after I have watched you.
    I got my ambutech white cane given to me by my rehabilitation chap from the local council. I did not want it At ALL - but, as you say, once you get over the initial mental stuff, you soon realise life is so much better with it than without it.
    I too have the marshmallow roller tip, and use that every day. I have the roller ball too, but, for me, I dont like using it, because I feel the ball is massive and everyone will be looking at me - which they won't in reality any more than they may do with my regular cane. I do however, use the roller ball when walking over the moorland with my partner and the dogs, as it glides over. most thing just wonderfully.
    You have inspired me to also do a little White Cane Vid. What do you use to set your questions on please? As,. I always forget the details of what Im supposed to eb talking about, and like the Voiceover list - but not sure how I would get it to read just one thing at a time :-)
    One question - here in the UK if someone has a white cane with red on it, that signifies that the user is both visually impaired and hard of hearing - so what do these people use in the U.S to signify both visual and hearing impairments please?
    Love to you and your family, and I hope you have an amazing weekend
    Terry

      I am glad you enjoyed the video and I'm even more glad that you want to make a video on this topic yourself.
      I was supposed to add the questions to the description page on this video but like a moron I forgot. I am still a rookie on TH-cam when it comes to a lot of things.
      But if you click on the description and then click on the link I put in there it will take you to my friend Jasmine's channel right on the video that she started for this hashtag White King video series. She has all the questions in order on her description page.
      but, what I did was a hand typed out the questions on notepad on Windows 10. did not use Microsoft word just the good old fashioned notepad. I did each one and space them so that I could hit the down arrow key to read off each one on narrator. It was very simple.
      What I will do later on tonight is add the questions myself to the comments so keep an ear open for a new comment for me. Thanks for listening to the video and watching always a pleasure to hear from you my friend cannot wait to watch and listen to your video on the same subject.

      @myvisuallyimpairedlife5674  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well I will start off this conversation by saying como esta. And also I would like to say salamat po for watching and listening to this video.
      I can totally understand how you feel. Manila is very crowded and just like any other country whether it third world or not crime is still everywhere.
      I actually was almost mugged in the city where I live nearby.
      The most I can say is you have to get over this fear. because it is something that could happen to anybody. when it comes to your safety it is vitally important that you learn how to use a white cane. Not just for the safety of yourself but for also the safety of others.
      I know that a lot of people in the Philippines especially in Manila tend to travel in groups. I am sure you have friends you could always tag along with from time to time. But when it comes to the times you have to be alone have no fear and get those thoughts out of your head. Don't let anxiety and fear keep you from living a normal life. I feel and this is my opinion that you will be amazed how many people help you more while having your white cane than they ever did before owning it. Yes there is a lot of bad in the world but there is more good. There is so much compassion and that's why we thank God everyday.
      I hope to hear more comments from you down the road. It's always a blessing to make new friends from all over the world. have yourself a blessed week and magandang gabi.
