I LOVE these board setup videos. It'd be so sick to do them with every guest. I love hearing the madness and OCD things they do with their boards. Such a sick series, TNC 🔥 🔥
For the most part I skate 8s, but if I could find 7.875 more often, I would only skate that size. I wear an 8.5 and like to get tech. I think that size is perfect.
That’s actually an incredibly pleasing to the eye board setup. I wonder if the kicks stay the same if the board goes up to 8.25. Can any one confirm? I love the shape of that board everything about it but 7.75 is too small for my big foot…
It's a PGI stock shape from what I remember, and there is an 8.25 that might be in the same mold. Hard to tell from the video. It's a shorter shape with a tight wheelbase but thats on trend at the moment anyways. You can find it from maxallure and blood wizard used to use it but I think they have some clutch wood mixed in now... look for an 8.25 x 31.6 14wb from those companies. It is chinese wood, so epoxy glued and pretty stiff but I've skated a handful of them over the years and liked it every time.
I used someone else’s board once and I loved it. It felt so good. I wish I knew the shape size wheel base what trucks they used. I would still skate if I could replicate it.
@BLAKJACK! Yeah I used to ride for this skateshop that had their own boards and got to ride them for 6 years until they sadly went out of business. Haven't been able to find that shape ever since then, no matter how thankful I was to be able to do that I still feel like I took it for granted haha
@@ziggylarkdust Oh for sure, I'm not talking about just continuing skating the first shape you ever tried. More about trying a lot of them and finally finding that one shape that works perfect for you and then be fortunate enough to be able to skate that same one all the time.
Can you explain the thing with the bolts helps the griptape from coming up? Does he mean to start with the inside (boardslide side) bolts first instead of the outside (nose/tailslide) bolts? Or to tighten the nuts instead of tightening the screwdriver side?
No lie I thought the title was Kevin Hart setup and I thought for sure it would be Mark Norman's setup because he always refers to himself as Kevin Hart 🤣
I've seen so many skateboard setup videos. But only in one video did the skater talk about his height and leg size. I think it is necessary not only to talk about the size of the skateboard parts, but also about the size of the skaters.))
which setup vid was this? but yeah, i think skaters should say their shoe size and inseam. seems like width, length, and wheelbase are more dependent on those. speaking of which, they should say their wheelbase more.
Love these clips! Wished they went more in depth into board shape (concave, WB, length, no. in the press stack, etc.) For those wondering check out Ben Degros breakdown of boards & setups, that's the detail I wanna see when watching these clips
I like this setup. I hope this isn't showing my age too much here, but...I'm a size 10.5 shoe and a 7.875" deck is the perfect size for me. First time I rode one, I set put my 145 Thunders on it. The board being a quarter inch wider than the trucks gave it a nice quick turn with a surfy feel. I like 53/54mm wheels. I had the original cored Rictas when they first came out. They were very hard/fast/slick.
See this sounds like the optimal setup for me too, I have the same shoe size as well and I also have been riding thunders for about 8 years now plus I skate 54 mm wheels. The only thing I would do is swap out the Rictas cause those wheels don’t work for me at all.
@@ayjay359 Thanks, the way everybody talks about that shape makes me think it was the shape I had on two Guy boards, or possibly the allmost as good shape on a MJ board I had after, I would be very happy with either since I've been unhappy with allmost every board after that in the last 20 years
@@lonewolfprogrammer8932 I can’t say that for sure but the Mariano and MJ boards were often the G006 shape which was a 7.81 and they don’t produce it anymore, unfortunately. But I guess you would be happy with the G021 as it is very similar. That’s what Kelly skates, he said it on the Nine Club too, that it is the G021.
Those wheels are trippy, couldn't have had those back in the day that core would be deadly slippery when you wore them down. I had a set of Autabahn wheels that I skated down to the core, they ended up like 35mm. Glad I don't skate bottle caps anymore haha
Yooo I need that exact size too that would be so perfect for me I always wanted a 7.9 and I had one before and that was the best size I ever skated so Kelly’s size would work perfect for me too
Mob is dope but being on the east coast it starts to peel off because of the cold weather. I think it’s because of those little holes it has for air bubbles
It’s because the air is dry and the wood isn’t warm … I live in Georgia and had this problem this winter Once I windex/alcohol wiped my board and put grip on in a warm place , I stopped having the problem
When I was a kid i had element decks. I started skating again and been through 3 decks now. Im afraid of trying other brands because of shape/wheel base... i might like it... or i might waist money... i get that board madness idea. I go through it with my bushings. Ive tried several brands several hardnesses...
One thing, when Kelly said you can’t anker the screw in and get it flush if you tighten it from the underside, this is 1000% false, that’s all in your head man
I want a better explanation of what he was talking about with tightening down his hardware. I can’t for the life of me figure out what he meant by that 😅 Great setup video though! I love seeing what guys like and don’t like.
@Daniel Hollingsworth the lube never even helped in my experience when i tried bones swiss and popped the shields cuz i gave into the hype. The lube just mixed with the dirt in the bearings and the bearings came to a permanent screeching halt. So i just went back to bones reds and never popping the shields.
I cannot find a 7.875 Deck with a small wheel base. They are all 31.75 or longer 32mm. They are all popsicle. Need to find a 7.875 with shovel nose and tail.
I don’t personally know any adult humans who ride a 7.anything. 8.25” is the minimum skateboard size for grown ppl. That setup is damn near unskateable on east coast streets
Bro this is like the weirdest thing right now. Im jus looking this like ”sick, those weels look good” ”this guy gives vibes like he in some point in his life was extra dumb…i cant explain it..” Then just all of a sudden he spins his weels, those LITERALLY sound like a football crowd!!! Listen to it!!!
7.8..51mm wheels..I used to skate that kind of setup in early 2000s. Now I skate 8.5 board and 54mm wheels.
Can we get a dubs, eldy, and Rodg set up video too? Pretty pretty please? .... love you Kelly!!
Rodg would have some great insight, he nerds out on boards.

Straight out of the early 2000's drip. The golden era!
Bruh, Kelly has won favorite skater with me. He’s such a good dude and loves skateboarding as
Much as I do. Best dude ever
Happy for Kelly. I kinda thought he was going to faze out. Dude deserves all of the spotlight

Kelly is one of the raddest skaters in the known universe
And in a few unknown universes.

Kelly Hart is a dope dude! So swaggy🔥
Having the opportunity to consistently skate the same shape, a shape that works really good for you, for a long period of time is severely underrated.
💯. I felt the exact same way about the P-Rod shape when he was on Girl; learned so much on that shape.
yeah but I also think there's merit in experimenting

almost the same setup with me , but i used the raven treshy classic og model and its 8.5 with 149 thunder
Good for you, you're consistent and know your sizes and your brands.
Please keep doing these🙏
Kelly is the dawg!!
never really been a fan of board set-up videos, but I'll watch anything Kelly Hart
Can you explain the thing with the bolts helps the griptape from coming up? Does he mean to start with the inside (boardslide side) bolts first instead of the outside (nose/tailslide) bolts? Or to tighten the nuts instead of tightening the screwdriver side?
He meant tighten the nuts so the head of the bolt doesn't grip the tape as it's spinning.
Haven’t skated 7.875” since 2006. Maybe I should give it another try.
Try bones hard on the bottom and medium for the top bushings. Manual game changer
Do more setup vids ! Love em !

You can change your pivot cups without changing the whole truck fam!
No one talks about the length of the board. Very important 👌

Is that size/shape custom made for Kelly? Because I wanted to get one a while ago and it said it was a 8 everywhere

Kelly looks like a young Bert Kreischer (pre massive head injury). He even sounds *vaguely* like him minus the oinking and squeeling.
there is no other way like leveling up to the griptape like randoms griptex. you cant even see the bolts from a little distance
I wanna show y’all my board set up, Frfr
Shorty's Black Magic is definitely more grippy than MOB
What size shoe does Kelly wear, cause that is a small board
He said size 9 in another thread. The size board he rides was a standard for many years before the trend toward big boards.

It would be nice if before any board setup a list of height, weight, and shoe size be included.
