I wasn't going to order my GT with anything but the performance package, active exhaust, and night pony. But, I found a fully loaded Premium GT with all the goodies - including the 12 speaker stereo and magneride - and it is amzing. The car is almost a darkhorse premium. The main difference is it doesn't come with the tremmec or GT 500 rods. Those rods only matter if you want to go to 1000 hp. The GT rods can handle 800 hp and a whipple. the wheels and tires on the GT are 255 275 not 305 315. So for 10k extra, you get some things with the darkhorse, some of which don't matter much if you don't go past 800 horsepower. Most of us are going with aftermarket wheels anyway, so if you want to pay 10k for a tremmec and a badge go for it! I'll spend that 10 k on a whipple.
I have owned 4 Mustangs. All bought new, including a 1994 SVT Mustang Cobra. More recently a 2019 Mustang GT Premium With the Performance Pack. On the one hand they bring unsurpassed visceral joy. The sound from the naturally aspirated V8 is wonderful. However I recently acquired a 2024 BMW m440i x- drive, (my 4th BMW coupe , since my 1992 328is) for about a 10 percent price premium, vs the 2024 version of my Mustang. It is fully, fully loaded with every available option. The BMW has 4 wheel drive, dynos at about 425 hp, and a 48 volt hybrid boost to eliminate turbo lag. It would walk all over the Mustang, and has a better resale / trade values. Even in the rain, it corners like a cat on Velcro.
Ill tell you straight up, avoid the new gen Mustang. It's a cheap built pos. I bought mine in March 24, it has 393 miles on it, I dont care if I drive the turd again.
Doesn't sound like much change from 24 to 25 unless I missed it. It would be nice if Ford upgraded the timing and oil pump gears on the dark horse since they did everything else to prep for boost.
Very informative post. I would like to mention that active valve exhaust is not standard with GT performance package. Also you can get 3:55 gears in an automatic transmission GT without a performance package as an option.
So happy I was able to order my 2024 Mustang so late, with the removal of Yellow Slash and price increases for nothing new for my GT premium, it’s just not worth getting the 2025 over the 2024.

I don't think you'll see a New Shelby Mustang built by Ford. It's likely replacement will be a Mustang Cobra.. if you want a Shelby Mustang. You'll have to get it from Shelby American which is currently the Super Snake. I'm curious if you've test driven a Dark Horse. I've owned 5 different years of Mustangs starting with a 1995 Cobra, to a 2018 PP2 Mustang GT premium. I find the Dark Horse more refined in every area. My issue is the dealer markups since the Dark Horse is limited in production. If you can purchase one at MSRP and add a Whipple SC you'll have similar Horsepower for less than the Super Snakes $159,995 price tag
