    Thanks Coach! Like my trainer says, "be smart first, and brave second". Those defensive fundamentals are key in boxing. A solid defensive will help to set up a strong offensive/counter attack.

    A coach once told me that i should worry more about where the opposite hand is than my punching hand, that's how Pacquiao got knocked out dropped his Shields.

    • @DonTHEhandsome1
      @DonTHEhandsome1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Pacquiao got knocked out because he lost respect and walked in trying to get a knockout. He doesnt fight in the pocket much. He uses his feet to create angles and dictate distance and pace.

    Excellent video coach anthony! I have used a blocking/shielding based defense since the day I joined Muay thai. Its reliable...and lately Ive been using it with slips, and in the past 6 months and presently, Ive learned to keep my opposite hand up blocking while I throw my other hand. I barely ever get hit anymore, not in the head at least. This video will help alotta guys that dont really understand important it is to guard yourself.

    Just what the doctor ordered! Thanks coach,that’s what I needed to hear because lately I’ve become mesmerized by Your head movement, slips etc. but been wondering why had You always felt so chilled with Your hands. Yet common sense told me to keep the shields and later I see this... Everything has the reason and that’s good to know.

      This stuff is great. I learned a decent amount of information about boxing as a kid, but I never really took time to learn beyond what the mainstream basics like the job, hook, uppercut, etc... Everybody knows aboht that even if they aren’t into boxing combat sports. I didnt learn about the Philly Shell till last year. And his videos taught me a lot more about footwork and defense than what I already knew so his videos are a big help.
      I’m not necessarily a boxer, I just like to be at least decent in everything. I’m pretty well rounded. I’m not into beating someone’s ass the exact same way with one specific option every time I go to fight someone. My favorite thing to do is body slam/suplex, and I like submission holds and striking with more than just my fists.
      I could go a whole fight using just my fists, but that’s just not who I am as a fighter. If we get into a fight, I’m going to attempt to body slam you at least once (I say once cause I’m a street fight if I slam you on a hard surface you might be done). In basketball, I prefer to attack the basket and dunk or layup but I could go a whole game shooting jump shots if I wanted too but that’s just not very likely.
      So the point of me watching Coach Anthony’s videos is to learn new things and increase my attributes for boxing and fighting in general.

      I think everyone who’s really into fighting should be a decent boxer. Of course not Muhammad Ali or Mike Tyson level, but decent. Cause why not know how to throw smooth, crisp, and effective punches while standing? Having poor punching skills in a fight is like having poor dribbling skills in a basketball game. Sure you can still score and get to the hoop with bad dribbling skills, but it’d be a lot easier and you’d be less likely to travel or get the ball stolen if your handles are good. So while you can still win a fight or dominate your opponent without good punching skills, if you fine tune them, it’d make life on offense a lot easier and you’d be less likely to panic or stress out when your opponent is stuffing your takedowns. Yeah there are multiple forms of striking, but boxing/punching is fundamental. It’s the most common and most instinctive form of offense in a fight. No untrained person goes for a head kick in the middle of a street fight. The first thing most people do is throw a punch. Just like basketball, most people shoot a jump shot before anything... Basketball players shouldn’t who have been laying for years shouldn’t have a bad jump shot I’m sorry there’s no excuse. It not knowing how to punch or shoot a basketball properly is like a skater being good at kickflips and varial heelflips but cant do or land an ollie consistently.
      Learn some boxing skills even if you aren’t that into boxing. It’s make striking easier whether on offense or defense. Kickboxing too. Having fundamental boxing skills on top of your wrestling or grappling will allow you to pick apart your opponent a lot easier vs having no boxing or striking skills. Boxing offense can stun/hurt your opponent, which will make taking him down or slamming him a lot easier because he’d be in too much pain or too out of it to stop your grabbing attack.
