    Ur 💯 correct. Dad was born in 1953 and told me Russians came boxers and coaches n for boxing. Yes also to help the military. No wonder foot work looks very similar in Cuban n some Russian fighters. Thank you Coach Charles.

    Very valuable final disclaimer at the end of the video: drill these things with dedication to avoid becoming the next favourite moving heavy bag of the gym (everyone will want to spar you).
    Square stance is a topic on its own in combat sports, and this cuban foundation shown here can break your anchors, but it's a must to deeply STUDY it (with capital letters, yeah).
    I enjoyed it Charles, well done.

    Hey Coach, many thanks for you great content. Ever since I discovered the soviet and cuban boxing style I have been obsessed trying to grasp the key elements. Especially the contralateral movement going fwd was something that struck me as I was taught that this movement was “wrong”. They taught me to move ipsilateral going fwd and contralateral going backwards. My question now that I have so many options is: when to use what when sparring/fighting? Thanks!!

    • @Charlessalbox
      @Charlessalbox  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The idea first is learn as many skills that work to a high level. The more you learn the better chance you have in confusing your opponent when you fight him.
      Deciding when to use them will depend on strategy but the square stance is good evasive lateral movement, also as the square stance has no Jab hand both punches are crosses and so it will be good when you have your opponent in the ropes. The square stance offers the chance to catch your opponent off guard when you attack moving forward from lateral movement.

    That history lesson at the beginning was very interesting, the historical relationship between cuba and soviet during the cuban revolution. But i think it was also worth mentioning how Fidel Castro also banned cubans from boxing professionally for like 50 years. I can understand why tho, the footwork looks so elegant and cuban boxing looks really deadly. I can see why this style would be banned from the pro ring, its so deadly it should be illegal 😅😅

    What’s your advice if my coach hates me using Cuban style? I’m American 🇺🇸 and I’ve been tearing guys up in sparring with your teachings, but my coach hates the style, saying things like “you’re not a Cuban boxer” how would you suggest I handle this?

    • @Charlessalbox
      @Charlessalbox  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Try to understand that a coach cannot determine your style of boxing. His job is only to advise on technique... No one taught Julio Cesar La Cruz to use that style - he was shown technique and then the boxer decides his preferred style.

    One thing I did notice that the rear foot appears to be pointing straightforward than pointing 90degress is this for ease of movement?

    • @Charlessalbox
      @Charlessalbox  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question... actually for my stance, with respect to the front bearing, the angle I tend to use for my back foot is approximately 65-80° and during the course of movement, especially after a pivot, it might shift to anything between 50-90°.
