How does a day's fishing like this work WRT rod licenses I wonder - you aren't fishing specifically for either course or game fish, you're just spinning in a river. If you happen to catch a trout but don't have a game license, is that an issue (in theory)?
I think trout and chub are both covered by the same license, it would just be migratory fish that aren't. If you catch one without a license you'd have to just let it go. No avoiding it really!
Fish caught at 13 minutes looked more like a Parr (Juvenile salmon) rather than a wild brown trout. Seemed to have the bar code pattern people often mix them up for brown trout.

When you bend forward to net it looks like you are losing tension on the fish ,..? Worth a thought might help.? But love your channel so far.
I admire your complete honesty, "If you want to know how to catch river fish the easy way...". I only ever fish traditionally for trout, with flies and nymphs. I loath the instant gratification of 'spinning' and modern lure fishing, experiencing it as contemptuous and disrespectful of that knowledge of the natural world, and ecology of the river, required by real fishermen. But I like you and your appreciation of trout. I only wish you'd film the art of fly fishing more often. p.s. You can catch most fish, from minnows to huge chub, using flies but, yes, it's a great skill, an art, and not "the easy way". Not just banging on about lures and "fish on, fish on, fish on..." you will develop a far greater appreciation of river ecology, fly-life, water quality and the terrible incongruence of imposing technology (including plastic lures) upon the natural world.
That hard, missed hit was more than likely a large chub, it could easily have been a pike though, saying that I've had trout at over 5lb that feel like you've hooked the back of a boat. That's the thing about fishing... You never know...
@@adventurefishingukThat fish came out of the River Don in Sheffield... On stick float, using maggot. It wasn't the intended target. I think it got into the river from a fishery, or reservoir further upstream. There were some huge floods the year before. I'm sure it wasn't a wild fish. I've even caught tench and barbel off the top before... Resting a pellet bait on the top of lily pads, so the fish knock it off and take it.
@@adventurefishinguk its definitely better generally. also you can afford to go quite a bit bigger with the lures. kelly galloup,s modern streamer fishing for trophy trout shows him using 5 to 7 inch streamer flies for big brown trout. it doesnt provoke a feeding response, its more of a territorial thing. your numbers with go down but the size will go right up. ive had trout to 4 and 5lb in streams half the size of that one up here in scotland.

Hi
Hi
@@adventurefishinguk 😂
That hard, missed hit was more than likely a large chub, it could easily have been a pike though, saying that I've had trout at over 5lb that feel like you've hooked the back of a boat. That's the thing about fishing... You never know...
I'd love a trout like that mate, bit of a bucket list fish for me! You're right probably a chub, there are no pike in this stretch of river!
Are you using the hard tip for these fish buddy...
Using the green one mate 👍 Not quite sure which that is I think it's the lightest
fishing upstream rather than across and down will keep you under their radar a bit better bud.
Thanks for the advice mate I’ll have to give it a go next time
@@adventurefishinguk its definitely better generally. also you can afford to go quite a bit bigger with the lures. kelly galloup,s modern streamer fishing for trophy trout shows him using 5 to 7 inch streamer flies for big brown trout. it doesnt provoke a feeding response, its more of a territorial thing. your numbers with go down but the size will go right up. ive had trout to 4 and 5lb in streams half the size of that one up here in scotland.
