High isolated little places like that were often trial-stocked by the Victorians, as long as there's a reliable feeder to keep it oxygenated and with some spawning potential. Such fish can be relatively few, and disproportionately old for their size as available feed is often quite sparse, these are often quite acid little waters. As a useful option, try keeping a few small wet flies to be fished with a bubble float - this can let you cover more water than with a trad. fly rod. In such waters, black and claret hackled flies do well. Keep the bubble float well filled so there's just a small bubble of air left, it'll cause less wake that way. This method can be frowned on by illogical fly-only snobs, but the wee hooks cause less damage than do the grappling irons you're using here! If fishing such a float you can have it at the tip, or else at the inner end of the cast. If the latter, mounting it on a short snood can let bite detection be more sensitive as the trout needn't move the float to transmit a twitch up the line. But this is essentially surface fishing, flies are in the surface film. Very visual, LOTS of fun. Much moreso than spinners and other ironmongery!! For such a place I'd fish light, maybe 5lb mono main line with 3lb droppers. Or lighter? Use as long and limber a light rod as you can face carrying, not a wee toothpick as used here. With your spool filled to the brim, this lengthens casts with mono. Although these fish might tend to be small and elderly, occasionally one might occasionally outcompete its brethren and grow bigger, in rare cases even start to mop those up. So VERY occasionally you might just find yourself connected to a several-pounds "monster". I witnessed onesuch catch once, it made nearly four pounds. (Unfortunately, the rod wasn't mine). In a water like these such are sometimes thought to be better removed because of their predatory ways thinning out an inadequate population overmuch.
Thanks for the very detailed reply. I've heard a few other theories about how they got up there ranging from eggs on birds feet all the way to monks taking them up there as a food source. Miners from nearby mines was another interesting one. I may do some research and make a video on it one day! I've heard the bubble float can be a really good method. I've tried it once before but got put off by how much wake the float caused on the retrieve. I'll have to give it another go! Hopefully one day I come across one of these monstrous high altitude fish!
@@adventurefishinguk Surface wakes - flat calms, not great. With a ripple to medium waves you may find the flies are splashily grabbed almost on touchdown. Biggish (14?) zulus work well. Use a small transparent bubble float not quite full - you dont need to cast over the horizon. Twitch the gear back, *slowly*. Ripples/waves hide float-wakes well but these are never sophisticated fish in my experience. You may find small isolated lakelets like yours stuffed with wee troutlets if the breeding potential is high but the feeding poor, they reach a terminal size then grow no more because foraging drains all the nutrition they can harvest, arctic char in scottish lochs are often subject to this size limitation, topping out at less than half a pound. Acid water, limited grub. Result, stunted fish that can seem to be clones they're so similar. They're always lively wee things but often disappoint in the frying pan. Lots of fun checking these places, enjoy!
@Adventure Fishing UK if your not keen on using a bubble float because of the wake , a great float to use is a Bombarder float which come in floating and intermediate. Hardly makes ripples and is deadly. Tight lines

Tight lines
Those little fellas are beautiful. If the young lady is good with a net then keep her!
Thank you! Haha i intend on it!
