Hi George! Loving the videos! I’m a long time shore angler, just getting into river spinning. Got myself a rigged and ready rod! What would you recommend in terms of length and weight of leader? Do I even need a leader? And if so should I use floro or mono? Thanks mate, and keep up the excellent work!
Thanks for watching! If you’re using braided mainline you definitely need a fluorocarbon leader. For lighter spinning I’d go for 8lb and maybe 12lb if it’s a bit snaggy!
A few things on your release. If you are not already doing so (you might be editing that out), please wet your hands prior to touching a trout, contact with dry hands or land or dry nets removes a layer of slime that protects them from bacteria. Also, try to minimize a trout's time out of water to 10 seconds or you greatly increase their mortality (it's much better for the fish if you keep it submerged in your net before lifting it out to show people vs on it's side exposed to air). Tight lines!
You have to pay for a license to fish freshwater yes, and in a lot of cases either a day ticket or membership. Sometimes free though other than the license! Culturally, we put most of the freshwater fish we catch back!
@AdventureFishingUK if that's the average stamp of trout there, with time, there will be a 3lb fish there for you. Looking forward to seeing it, please share when you get it.😉
Great vid keep up the good work , but must say that rivers been there thousands , even millions of years - do you really think no-ones ever fished it in all that time ?!?! and guaranteed someones poached it !!!
Glad you enjoyed it! I meant it more in the way that no one has 'officially' fished it at least over the duration of the lives of the fish that are in there. I.e they will have never seen a hook before! It could have been poached, but the place has great security, electric gates and cctv etc
@@adventurefishinguk Hi mate. You had it pretty much covered. Up stream from where you were is a private stretch. Let’s just say there is a large park where the river where the river flows about a mile and a half upstream. If you google earth it from your trout location you should find it. It’s very shallow but there are places where it deepens and there are reasonable chub. But the playing fields can get very busy with kids and dogs etc. It’s one of those rivers that needs to be explored especially down stream but can be tricky getting to the bank side.
It used to be so polluted years ago. I’ve seen all sorts get dumped in there. There used to be a dye works and an abattoir in town, blood products and red dye seen loads of times flowing down. Disgraceful. But now it’s a different place.
You really need to pick up flyfishing, mate. I enjoy lure fishing for trout myself, but catching them on a flyrod just can't be beat. Forget about dry flies, just use streamers. Basically the same technique as lure fishing, but it just feels more direct.

Great! I’ll give that a go. Thanks for replying!
All those of bits of paving slabs is probably the reason the land owners didn’t want many people fishing there.
But it is still a healthy river
Yeah good point! It’s great fun fishing places like this, you never know what’s going to turn up 👍
A few things on your release.
I always make sure I wet my hands before handling a trout but thanks for the concern, I appreciate you looking out for fish welfare!
DId you mention what set up (lure) that you were using?
I’m not sure, spinners and crank baits work well for trout though! And of course spoons
hey i used to fish there 40 years ago as a kid
That's cool to hear! Legally?
Nice shorts.
Haha thank you
without doxing the river would that stretch run along side a reasonably well travelled main road?
I don’t think so mate no
The lime stone blocks in the river, and the stone banks look familiar
In UK you have to pay for fishing and what about fishes you drop in water back or you can take it home ?
You have to pay for a license to fish freshwater yes, and in a lot of cases either a day ticket or membership. Sometimes free though other than the license! Culturally, we put most of the freshwater fish we catch back!
nice looking river but like most of our rivers there is no weed growth
Very true!
Tidy stretch that.
Lovely place isn’t it!
@AdventureFishingUK if that's the average stamp of trout there, with time, there will be a 3lb fish there for you. Looking forward to seeing it, please share when you get it.😉
Rapala with 2 hooks on?
Countdown elite 3.5 👍
Great vid keep up the good work , but must say that rivers been there thousands , even millions of years - do you really think no-ones ever fished it in all that time ?!?! and guaranteed someones poached it !!!
Glad you enjoyed it! I meant it more in the way that no one has 'officially' fished it at least over the duration of the lives of the fish that are in there. I.e they will have never seen a hook before! It could have been poached, but the place has great security, electric gates and cctv etc
@@adventurefishinguk ah i see , sorry im probably being a bit pedantic typical me . look forward to your next adventure 😀
:)
Thanks for watching!
I know where that is and I’m not saying. Two miles from where I live. 😂😂😂😂😂
That’s cool, do you know if there are any free stretches of the same river nearby?
@@adventurefishinguk Hi mate. You had it pretty much covered. Up stream from where you were is a private stretch. Let’s just say there is a large park where the river where the river flows about a mile and a half upstream. If you google earth it from your trout location you should find it. It’s very shallow but there are places where it deepens and there are reasonable chub. But the playing fields can get very busy with kids and dogs etc. It’s one of those rivers that needs to be explored especially down stream but can be tricky getting to the bank side.

Shame that the river is so polluted from land drainage
Is that what it was?
It used to be so polluted years ago. I’ve seen all sorts get dumped in there. There used to be a dye works and an abattoir in town, blood products and red dye seen loads of times flowing down. Disgraceful. But now it’s a different place.
You really need to pick up flyfishing, mate. I enjoy lure fishing for trout myself, but catching them on a flyrod just can't be beat.
Forget about dry flies, just use streamers. Basically the same technique as lure fishing, but it just feels more direct.
Yeah i definitely need to get more into it, i always find myself getting into tangle after tangle, sort of ruins it for me!
i fish the upper severn and its in such a sorry state
I had no idea, for some reason I thought the Severn was in quite good condition
The farmer spreading liquid slurry when the ground is rock hard......and the river is full brown scum on the surface 🙈
I don’t really know enough to comment! The ground didn’t seem rock hard to me
Pretty sure someone would have fished it at one point
Potentially, not officially though!
