Thanks! The P2k IS brilliant indeed (got 2). Good mods! The old wing used to tear by the rear screws when flown faster than 100kph (reparable with epoxy + carbon). V2 doesn't. One noticable difference is that de new fuse is harder, and will break in a crash, whereas the V1 fuse was indestructable (I tried :-).
i dont mean to be off topic but does someone know a method to log back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly forgot my password. I would love any tips you can give me!
@Christian Oliver Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site thru google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I have the 1600 and G2. You mentioned the wing clips which I think is a great idea. Unfortunately on my 1600 the clips in the fuse have broken a few times on relatively good landings. My mate printed some for me which was good but they are attached to the tray on the inside which is an absolute pain to get in and out! I have now reinforced the clips with fibre tape before reinstalling. Would be good if they made some stronger clips.
Beautiful looking plane, Volantex have really proven to be a solid quality brand, I have a couple of their models, best aerodynamic wing foil shape around.
Looks great, the fuse is interesting, when I get rich I think I'll look at the 1600mm version, I'd like to try out the plastic fuse..... great vid thanks for sharing :-)
I maidened my V2 today and the rudder clevis got disconnected landing in long grass. I had forgotten to use the plastic tube retainer supplied to fit over the clevis!
Good hinges..yes..about time...flaps are a waste of weight...more difficult to get FPV gear installed in wing area. I preferred the bolt on wings to allow access to that area. Once bolted on fuselage i never took them off..
Looks great Andrew. When I next kill off my current Phoenix it's great to know there is a new replacement. I should say though, my current P2K has done 2 sloping seasons and is still all in one piece, (even after driving into a rock when I forgot to connect the battery)! Not sure if I should be happy or sad.
Hi Andrew. I was wondering when you would get one of these. Got my first a couple of months ago. Wrote off the fuselage a couple of weeks ago after five rebuilds. Really love the way this flies even with my awful piloting. Foam is different from first phoenix it is the same as the Ranger2000. The fuselage wing clips don't like rough landings but they can be 3d printed. Search thingiverse. Running mine now with a Matek f405 wing. RTH is a lifesaver. A real honey of a plane.
Hi Andrew, Looking forward to the flight video. Had two ads today one 10 minutes and the other 11. Don't know what TH-cam is thinking. If they are over three minutes I skip them.
Here in Germany I had none. No "it came, it came, it came" cries nor facebook shit. Can't wait to see facebook dying where dying starts in this industry at declining growth. Who needs a spy with his hand at someones heart and his eyes and nose in someones head.
Hi Andrew. Having watched all your wonderfull videos on this plane I bought one, using a flysky i6 which would be best - set up flaps or crow braking. Purely from a landing perspective? Thanks for your time.
I am torn between this & the 2.4m version. I noticed the wings were very shiny & smooth. Is this how it comes out of the box or have you covered/ painted them? Awesome videos thanks for sharing 👍🏻👍🏻🙃🙃
Thanks Mat, just packing tape on the wings. The 2.4 I found to be heavy and draggy with some tip stall tendency. The 2kV2 is a much better thermal glider but doesn't have the weight carrying capacity of the 2.4.
Wonderful plane, looks just beautiful. Looks like the horizontal stab can be easily removed for transport if necessary? Let us know how the stock electronics perform!
Hi Andrew, could you post a vid of a full house glider set up on the 2000 Phoenix, but using the Flysky fs-i6 6 channel tx. Or at least a good mix set up using the 3 available. Should have a 2000 here this week.
Plug in wings...its so much better....It needs some lead in the tail so it can carry a decent capacity FPV Lipo though...2200mah isnt enough....More room for FC etc.
At 3:59mins, what is that white device with a rocker switch and what are you tweaking at the same time on the X8R Rx? One more thing, which of your videos can you point me to that says what you need to do and have so that the prop doesn't free-wheel - so that it stops and folds like it's supposed to? Thanks
will the two big rods stay within the fuselage or within one of the wings? i have troubles to insert the long big rod into both wings, as the squared metal profile in the wing is slightly squeezed.
Hey Andrew! When I tighten the prop nut onto the shaft, the prop has a lot of resistance (does not spin freely) and when I've tried to up the throttle, the motor doesn't have the power to spin it. Do you have any ideas what that might be?
Needs to be a gap between the back of the spinner / collet and the nose wall. Undo the prop nut and pull the spinner forward a few mm on the motor shaft then retighten.
Hi Andrew, great review - I purchased one based on your video. I want to convert a V2 into an FPV glider and explore Flaps and Crow Braking. Quick question regarding variometers - The G-RX8 is one option for a receiver and vario solution, however I would really like to get a reliable 3km range - not sure if the G-RX8 can do that reliably? The Frysky L9r doesnt support telemetry, so that option is out regardless of its impressive range. Then there is a possible option of an x8r coupled with the separate Frysky variometer (assuming the x8r has a better range than the G-RX8). Any suggestions on your experiences? As always - thanks for your ongoing tips and info. I really enjoy your videos.
Andrew. Liked your review. Quick question. I am putting together the kit version and the motor seems to have down thrust. Is this normal? I have Phoenix V1 and 1600 versions and they don't appear to have down thrust.
Hi Andrew, I've flown my version 1 to death but it still performs. This one looks even better. I looked at the Banggood website and the landing wheel doesn't look real - is it a wheel or just a wheel shaped skid?
how difficult/fiddily is it to unmount the wings and get them back in?... I'm wanting a soarer and easily removable wing is high on the importance list...
That plane looks great but maybe try to look at the Roc hobby v tail 2.2m glider but the 2nd version too. I got one and it just wants to glide... Getting it to land you have to drop the flaps a lot otherwise it will just keep going until you run out of space. It's fast too. Only thing is not much space under canopy but it's an easy fix. Oh yes: and the fuselage is foam too. Little difficult to transport with the v tail attached but with some creativity it does fit with some other umx planes and a gaui X3 helicopter into an Audi TT. 😂
Hi Andrew, thanks great review, based on it, I am about to order. Please could you let me know the prop setup, I see the prop is a1060 10x6 folding prop on banggoo I would like to order a high quality props and spinner, is the v2 motor a 4mm shaft? Please could you let me know the diameter of the spinner? Cheers
Hi Andrew, Can you help me please. I just broke the engine shaft on the stock motor doing up the nut too tight. Can you suggest a replacement motor, I dont mine paying a bit more if I have to. Thanks.
@@AndrewNewton I've found out since Some have replaced the stock motor with a Scorpion SII 3008 1090 KV ?. Dont know why Hobby King dont have the replacement stock motor in Aus Warehouse crazy ?. Thanks for your relpy.
Hey Andrew Looks great!! Did you have to cover the leading edge with tape of any kind? It just looks glossy in the video. Outside of that, I like it. Hope the test flight went well
Thanks, looking forward to the fly

Thanks Hervez. Hope you like the Phoenix like I do
Nice plane Andrew , looks great for fpv set up . Thanks for the video . Thumps up .
Thank you Andrew! For this video build!
It was interesting and informative and very helpful!
I purchased the 1.5m , 2m and the 2.4m.
Great flyers!
Excellent the full set. Which do you like best?

@Christian Oliver it did the trick and I now got access to my account again. Im so happy:D
Thanks so much you saved my account :D
Just ordered myself this Glider! More fun to be had!!
Oh yes, it's one of the best
@@AndrewNewton Did you go right to the wing tips with the tape?
No, just the straighter sections.
I have the 1600 and G2. You mentioned the wing clips which I think is a great idea. Unfortunately on my 1600 the clips in the fuse have broken a few times on relatively good landings. Really surprising that doesn't happen more often, and why do we trust those little plastic pins to control our planes!
Good hinges..yes..about time...flaps are a waste of weight...more difficult to get FPV gear installed in wing area. I preferred the bolt on wings to allow access to that area. Once bolted on fuselage i never took them off..

Very good Model - very good Video - very good ANDREW !!! Thank you and Greets, Frank !
Greets back Frank, thanks
Volantex know what they are doing.
Yes they seem to try and improve over time. Very impressive.

Sounds a plan Andrew! Out on the slope this coming Wednesday.

Hmm, the fuselage is a bit 'fatter' and the wheel making it more like the ASW28. And it's also heavier.

Hi Andrew. Having watched all your wonderfull videos on this plane I bought one, using a flysky i6 which would be best - set up flaps or crow braking. Purely from a landing perspective? Thanks for your time.
Crow will make the landings shorter. But it will use up all the mixes

This covers most of what is possible th-cam.com/video/xt5IdeLdiug/w-d-xo.html
Andrew Newton thanks mate, I’ve watched that one a fair bit, great vid. Do you think it’s possible to do crow braking with the Flysky 6 channel?
Crow is just flaperons reversed with flaps. Should be doable but might take up all the mixes, I'll have a play with it.
Plug in wings...its so much better....It needs some lead in the tail so it can carry a decent capacity FPV Lipo though...2200mah isnt enough....More room for FC etc.
FPV thermal gliding, I have tried it with the Radian.

One more thing, which of your videos can you point me to that says what you need to do and have so that the prop doesn't free-wheel - so that it stops and folds like it's supposed to? Thanks
It's just an old in-line light switch with XT60 plugs. Makes binding the FrSky receivers easier. Search for ESC programming on my channel
will the two big rods stay within the fuselage or within one of the wings? i have troubles to insert the long big rod into both wings, as the squared metal profile in the wing is slightly squeezed.
I leave the spars in the fuselage usually. Maybe try to bend open the square tube a bit.
Hi Andrew, another well done vid! Mate, do you know if the Phoenix 2400 wings will fit the 2000V2? Thanks.
No they dont fit unfortunately
@@AndrewNewton ok, thanks mate.
I have a Ranger 1200 G2, is this a good option for better gliding? Sorry for my bad english...
Phoenix V2 is perfect for all types of gliding, Ranger G2 is OK for slope soaring
Did you tape the wings? Look very glossy
Yes, tape on the leading edge

@@AndrewNewton thanks! Just hope that was exactly it. Hope I didn’t damage the motor !
Motors are quite tough, unless you smelled smoke
One question, which glider you prefer for thermal soaring. This, Volantex ASW 28 or Phoenix Evolution 2600mm?
Evolution is the best, P2K next then ASW28. The ASW28 looks great but the wing design doesn't work so well in foam

Not 3km. You would need the L9R with iNav GPS flight control board for that distance. Then just use the iNav vario display
Andrew. Liked your review. Quick question. I am putting together the kit version and the motor seems to have down thrust. Is this normal? I have Phoenix V1 and 1600 versions and they don't appear to have down thrust.
Yes it does have more down thrust and it's beneficial. Reduces the pitch-up when you throttle up aggressively.
@@AndrewNewton Thanks Andrew. It's not very obvious in photos of the model. Getting the motor in was a bit of a challenge, but I made it.
Is there a hinge at lower end of rudder near the control horn? I always make one up with tape and make a weave hinge in that area.
No hinge, I'll have to try the tape weave

Does anyone knows if the Wings of the Phoenix 2000 V2 fits on the fuselage of the Phoenix 2400?
No, 2000 wings will not fit the 2400
