How's it holding up? Also how often do you change your trans oil cause I've heard too often and it'll wear down your trans (I have a k series)
Thanks for showing the install in detail. I wish they just made the blocks fit without having to grind the gears down. I think I am just going to dish out the money for a Mfactory lsd
It gives it more grip. Probably wasn't good enough without the grind down.
What is the different just welded and putting this block type inside dffrntl ? is that same ?
The problem is the blocks wear down and stop gripping then just start causing a lot of heat from friction of it slipping. A lot of people tried these 15 years ago. Nothing beats a real lsd.
Bijan Ardalan well the problem is not a lot of people have money like you to buy a real LSD and now they’re even more broke cause no jobs this is another alternative than buying a $1000 LSD Differential if you have that kind of money you might as well get a Type R transmission. This is a $100 transmission from the junk yard with a phantom grip. Thanks for letting me know what I already knew. 🤓✌️
@@adamhashimoto8515 LOL 😂 reply’s good...
How does this work with no friction discs?? I don't understand that at all. It seems cheap like those lunchbox lockers. I don't know at all I've never had one. We got a 67 chevelle that has the Eaton true trac unit in it. Works flawlessly every time it's called upon to burn both tires. It came originally with the open diff and 3.23 gear. We put a 3.73 gear instead also. It's a 396 big block with a th400 and the center console shift with bucket seats. Originally it was column shift with bench seats and it's supposed to be an ss car. Wtf chevy lol
Is your car still running with this block in the trans?
So does it really work as an LSD would it be a good buy for a rear wheel drive car ?
Marios Mantzakos so far it hasn't giving me any issues I've been beating the crap out of it. As for using it on a rear wheel drive I know they have the phantom grip for Nissan 350z and Chrysler 300's and can work for miata's but I would highly recommend get a welded diff with plates on it. It'll last you longer. Please subscribe 👍
Ok what about the drive shaft input shaft? Are the c-clips able to engage w the block in the way? Shaving the gears; doesn’t that remove the space where the c-clamps lock into place? Or are you just running the drive shafts without the C_clamps ? Thanks for your post btw
Also: wouldn’t we also have to shorten the drive shaft ends about the same amount you shaved off the gears and re-cut a place for the c-clamps if the drive shafts hit the block ? My bad lots of questions
Yeah the c clips don’t interfere with the phantom grip block. The reason why your shaving the gears is to slip the phantom grip inside because i tried it without shaving them down and it doesn’t fit, so you need to do it. I would get a transmission from the junk yard and practice on that that’s what i did and i was successful so anybody can do this, you just got to step out of your comfort zone sometimes. Good luck
@@adamhashimoto8515thanks for the reply. Yea it sounds a lot easier than the (Racingdiffs) block. I asked because I bought the racingdiffs block but this one came with discs which seems like a nice design except that they get in the way of the drive shafts. They have vids on installation but not the trouble of having to trim the drive shafts and creating a new groove inside the passenger side spider gear⚙️ so the c-clip can engage and lock it safely. This block cost around $260. Takes more work and mods.. but I’m a newbie and your vids caught my attn. Maybe I’ll try the phantom on my next project. Thanks again !
I wouldn’t shave the drive shafts/axles for any reason but you should definitely try it out it’s worth it
Thanks!!! Saving this video. So in total how did this upgrade last? I know it's been posted awhile back. Can't afford real LSD hahaha so I might as well do this.
It lasted me a year until I sold the car. It’s good to challenge yourself and do something different
Question instead of shaving the gears... Why not shave the LSD block insert?
You could do that but it’s a possibility that it might weaken the LSD block insert so I wouldn’t recommend it. the reason why you have to shave the gear is because the gear comes with a lip so it doesn’t allow you to go straight in just follow video good luck
What is the spec for clearance on the install with the clips on? Wanting to know how much to take off the gears? What is the max this will expand to?
Don’t know the specs or the clearance because different years and models may have stiffer springs depending on the car.you just have to shave down the gear til you get closer to the splines then slip the phantom gear block in the differentials as shown on the video
Nice video 👌 thinking about doing this instead of buying $1000 lsd trans or 700 LSD differential
Gregga A appreciation it don’t forget to add red lock tie to the differential bolts good luck 🍻
After installed with diff locker, do you use normal Honda manual trans fluid or lsd gearbox fluid.. Just to confirm since I just installed one for b16a gbox. Thanks!
I recommend using Honda manual transmission fluid so far it hasn’t given me any issues. Good Luck 👍
Does anyone know if they have this for a 2007 Chevy Aveo? Or where/how to find that info?
Don't sand them gears. Just make different locks on convertion kit. 10 min job. Make lock plate hole closer to each other. Put the kit in vice. Take locks out. Close the vice so kit is completely closed, then install new lock and it will fit in no probs
A 10 minute job that you would fuck up inevitably 😂Too late I already sand down the gears and installed the transmission I had it for 6 months haven’t had an issue. But thanks for your input I never asked for it
@@adamhashimoto8515 you sound very happy with this product. I'm half afraid, half don't wanna loose diff) but thank you for the video. Was very helpful
Thank you for posting this up.
Now that you have had it in a while, can you give us a review on how it feels in a straight line and in the corners vs no LSD?
Ken Rocker i appreciate it. it feels good I would recommend changing the oil in the transmission more often and using synthetic oil. but other than that it runs great.
you all prolly dont care at all but does anyone know a method to get back into an Instagram account..?
I was dumb forgot my login password. I love any tips you can give me
@Finn Esteban Instablaster :)
@Mohammed Tristen thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site through google and Im in the hacking process now.
Takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
@Mohammed Tristen it worked and I finally got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thank you so much, you saved my account!
if ur clutch starts slipping its probably cuz you put way too much grease and the input shaft 16:45
turbochild its not slipping thanks for your concern you don’t want to put it in dry. LOL that what she said 🤣
I laughed so hard when i saw all that grease on the bearing and shaft......thats the worst thing i have ever seen i bet that clutch doesn't last lol wow people you should never put more then a drop on there lol
@@pauljones7525 lol i had to look thru the vid to find it when i read ur comment....sweet jesus why? lol....ur right. I mean its not bad to put a thin layer on the input shaft but it looks like he dumped 2 hand fulls of grease and made a sloppy Pb & J sandwhich
What are the dimensions of the blocks
The dimensions are: 23mm (Height) x 69mm (Length) x 47mm (Width) Diameter: 29mm make sure to give a follow ✌️
@@adamhashimoto8515 thank you .. what about the size of the holes
Trey Lambert the center whole is 29 mm I would recommend just buying a $30 dollar one you waste more trying to make one. Subscribe and give me a like 🤓
You had to shave gears? For what the block costs, phantom should have made this a perfect fit. I just got one for my legend and I hope I don't have to modify the gears
If you're not ready to do slight modifications like possibly shaving down the gear then find a professional
@@adamhashimoto8515 That's my issue. I paid for something "specifically" designed for my car and now I have to pay extra to make it fit.
Edit: mine fit. I got lucky.
@@dc-gm9tm wow now I’m on the edge about buying one
what if you grind the blocks down instead of the spider gears??
It would probably weaken up the block but you can try it tho. I would just stick to what I did on the video and make sure to do regular oil changes on your transmission it’ll last you longer 👍
Best explanatory video. I've checked Phantom grips online shop n they stop at 7th gen, I have a boosted 09 8th gen k20z civic, would it work for me?
John Wolf I appreciate it I’m pretty sure you can make it work using the 7th gen you just have to be careful when your shaving down the spider gears, not to shave the gears down too much
Nice!
How long did it last? Can u abuse these?
Im racing my Renault in the UK on a budget and wondering how to get a cheap lsd......
Alex Renault yes as long as you do frequent oil changes on your transmission. Good Luck & Gods Speed ✌️
@@adamhashimoto8515 Niceone
Im talking to phantom grip now.
How many miles have u put on urs?
Alex Renault has it for 4 months now haven’t had an issue make sure to change your oil on your transmission
I would though honda transaxle would be easier then Hyundai Tiburon to install LSD.
Can you do donuts with those?
Yes I can launch hard with it too
I wish I saw how the clip goes on n off
Once the cubes inside the differentials then you use a flat screwdriver to pry out the little locking plates on both sides
@@adamhashimoto8515 I meant the weird trans mission clip that had to come off before it comes apart. I suppose I’ll figure it out when I see it for myself, but this is the best phantom grip install video regardless if I saw the clip removal or not.
Thanks 👍 I will install on it on my car
i was really interested in that thing but now that i see you sent the gear to the machine shop to get them shaved and all the work you have to do to get that thing in there im like yea ... im gona spend 250 $ more and buy a real complet lsd diff from mfarctory
You must be a loser commenting on Valentine’s Day 😂 at the time I didn’t have a belt sander so you have to grind down to the splines and use a belt sander to smooth it out the guy charged me $25 at the machine shop cause he had a belt sander if you have so much money why don’t you just get a type R transmission. Honda’s are for people on budgets
Doesn’t work 18:21 the wheel wasn’t spinning with the other side wish people would give honest reviews and just say that to all the people with questions instead of telling them just do what’s on the video and change the oil constantly 🤦🏽♂️
You obviously didn’t see the whole video there’s a Before and after part showing that the wheel didn’t spin on one side before the install and then after both wheels spin. Stop being such a baby and try it out for yourself
@ RicardoLopez-cf9tn You didn't pay one bit of attention to the video did you? He was showing a before and after video. Plus if you took the time to look a the burnout at the end you can clearly see both tires leaving rubber on the street 🤡
You’re a dumbass
LSD
Too much money
How to fuck up your diff in 5 easy steps....
Just grow up and drop the cash for a LSD. They arent that expensive
Sounds like something a rich prick 💰would say and would get all their work done at a shop and scared to do their own oil change. I don’t think I can grow up any taller I can barely fit in your moms bed 😉 lol
Lol. D series lsd not that expensive? 😂 750$.
What is the different just welded and putting this block type inside dffrntl ? is that same ?
It’s not the same because what if the welds break and some of the particles of the welds fall on some of the gears or trapped in the synchro’s. It’s cheaper to do it the way I did it. I never had an issue.
@@adamhashimoto8515I already purchased this lsd not planing on racing or abusing the car just want lsd to get power to ground and daily drive especially in the snow whats your thoughts on reliability I see regular oil change is good and getting good oil is great how often do you change the transmission oil ? And is it expensive or should I buy a more expensive lsd? Just curious
@@paimei6798 i change the oil on the transmission ever time I do an oil change on the car as well. If you’re on a budget I would try this method it’s a lot of fun it’s just a little work you got to do but it will pay off.
What is the different just welded and putting this block type inside dffrntl ? is that same ?
No it’s not the same. Like 240sx you can get away with welding the dif because it’s outside the transmission. Honda’s have the dif inside the transmission and there needs to be a little bit of play if you weld it you’ll damage your transmission and it’ll be hard to turn too, This is the cheaper alternative instead of getting the LSD from a JDM transmission. Good luck
