He states in the video that getting the diff too hot can cause the spider gear to seize on the shaft, hence constant abuse should be avoided. It's completely possible that with proper differential cooling, this kit could stand up to racing use. Be a pioneer, find out for us.
they have real racing LSD like torsens. this on the video are for everyday use, giving extra traction on snow or wet conditions. People thing a $300 locker is going to be the same as a Torsen, Haldex, or Quaife....
To make FWD car useable? Otherwise most cars have trouble cornering and accelerating. For RWD it obviously makes no sense, since these are cars with serious power and engineers built them on purpose the way they are. FWD cars are ment for people that don't want to go fast and everyday folks, so if you want to use their limited power and capabilities, you need LSD. Once you go to the track, invest in proper racing gear - there are reasons for racing carts to cost $$$, and reliable LSD is one of them.
Unfortunately none of these issues are addressed in the 188k install video. Furthermore the pin is inserted with a hammer in the video as well. I did not install mine myself so I can´t tell what the reason was in the end, but mine also broke after 2 months due to the pin breaking lose.
I like the updated information but their video on E36 188 diff kit is basically a how not to do it. I hope Racingdiffs sorted those customers out who followed that installation video and their diff went wrong
Great video for professional install! Im sorry to point out that there is still one extra fail. number 4. not using protective gloves. Those chemicals wont do good for your skin and health. its not problem if you do randomly, but if you do it every day you will have skin problems like dry cracking skin and and years it can even cause cancer.. Please when you do videos like this, just do it correctly with gloves on.
I have this exact set and I have a clunk coming from the diff when applying/releasing gas (load shift) while moving. It is possible that this is a symptom of the central pin coming apart even though loctite has been applied? What symptoms have been reported prior to catastrophic failure associated with the central pin?
If differential is separated from gearbox, like in the most RWD cars, than Motul Gear Competition 75w140 is our choice. If it is inside gearbox, than factory grade but for LSD.
@@RacingDiffs I'm very happy that you're preparing it for polo 1.8 gti. Especially for manual gearbox which has a significant torque practically at very low engine rpm, especially after a simple stage 1. On dry asphalt it is also quite fast coming out of corners, but in the wet it is slow even with good tyres. It will also depend on the Custer angle of the steering but the understeer is too much and very annoying. I hope that the component you will create is durable so that you don't consider maintenance often, considering that the differential is inside the gearbox and therefore it would be a complicated and expensive job every time to do maintenance. Thank you for your reply and I hope to see a demonstration video on front-wheel drive as soon as possible. See you soon and good job
Send an email to office@racingdiffs.com. ask for another C clip for the conversion set. Tell that you spoke to Luca, and guys will send you c clips free of charge.
So “racing” diffs product is not build for race applications. What are my other choices for my 500hp e46? Just to sell my kiddney and buy an original M diff?
I hope you didnt seriously think about putting this in a 500hp E46 :D this is a cheaper method thats supposed to be an alternative to welding for people who dont drift often enough to put up with welded diff problems..certainly not for racing applications. Get an actual LSD for that beast and service it regularly because youre going to destroy that one most likely too at some point :D
So...because of this video I bought a hydraulic press to install the kit 100% correctly. I've tried several types of C-clips (including the original one), even with two different diffs, unfortunately without success...the C-clip has crushed each time.
it looks like he's using blue in the video. which is still considered serviceable. like you can break it loose with a bar or something. if your really worried about it put some red in there and you'll probably need heat to get that apart. If I had to make a guess. most people bust the c clip during install and don't realize it's broken. because the 2 halfs are still keeping the pin in place. once you get some miles on it and some good vibration. the half then break even more and finally can't do anything and the pin Flys out
Yes, we have the model for your car. And now it is on discount so you can grab it for 199eur instead of 289! Check more on the link below. racingdiffs.com/collections/lsd-conversion-sets/products/bmw-e46-e90-e92-e39-e60-lsd-conversion-set
I like how in mistake #3 “we don’t recommend this LSD set for racing purpose”
Why else would people buy LSD?!
Their name is Racing Diffs. By default they are recommending it for racing purposes!
They recommend their complete rebuild kit over conversion for racing...😂

Good informational video, i always thought the first technique with the threadlocker was good enough, but here i learned something new.
I was curious about your website then i saw this now I’m convinced i gotta get a kit😵💫
Very informative! Thank you for pointing these steps out. I’d probably would have used a mallet to install it if you didn’t make this video lol
Great tips on loctite for different holes, I never knew that!
I have a 2013 135i do i have to seperate the ring gear from the diff? what kit do i get for my 2013 135i

No such sounds was reported. What is more likely is backlash, if you mixed position of side bearings C Clips, or adjustment shims.
@@RacingDiffs hi what kit do I need for a 2004 325ci convertible m sport? Or how do I work it out off my registration or chassis number??
Hey, I have the same problem. Did you find any fault?
does this work on diesels too? or is it going to break easily because of the torque?
Works on diesels perfectly. We have it in our E46 330Cd.👍🏻
Which oil should be used with a LSD conversion set? Factory grade or something else?
If differential is separated from gearbox, like in the most RWD cars, than Motul Gear Competition 75w140 is our choice. If it is inside gearbox, than factory grade but for LSD.
Good morning. On a front-wheel drive, do you have any advantages with racingdiffs? If yes, does it exist for vw polo 6r gti 1.8 ?
This year, we will do more tests to demonstrate the benefits of LSD on FWD cars, which are huge. Polo Gti set is coming soon.

Loktite is excellent choice.
Which colour... locite us the brand not the strength

Is there an lsd for 650i f06 😢
Is there a c clip on the e46 188k ?
Yes, there is.
@ final question before pulling the trigger and buying it how much power or torque can it handle if I’m installing it on my e46 as my car is modded
Haven’t installed mine yet, why part number for c clip ?
We don't have the part number. But dimensions are 20x.1.5 mm
still waiting for lsd conversion for s13 differential 😭
We have the set for R200 differential.

Is it true that you do not recommend these for racing?
Yes, it is. This is the product mostly for street usage. For racing, we have other options available, depending on the car.
A little bit late on that video, don't you think... never saw the advice for the C clip in previous videos regarding typ 188l
I hope my differential doesn't break...
We didn't know sooner, as we said, we gathered information and analysed over the time.
@@RacingDiffs Is it a catastrophic failure in the first 1k km?
Or I can go a little bit like that and soon replace the sealants and order a new c clip
@@RacingDiffs maybe you should edit your other videos showing the pin being hammered past the c-clip, exactly like you say not to do here?
Ever fitted one of these to an Audi?
We don't have anything for the audi. Sorry to let you down.
how much block %?
25% lock.
Can this be used for drifting?
It is the product for street use. It's not for drifting.
Drifting makes definetely too much heat for such a small unit. Even big diffs on a drifting have high temps I believe.
@@RacingDiffs Cmon, most of your videos are about how cars with the lsd conversion set can drift (even on a street) and burnout.
Street drifting yes, but not for competition drifting. That's what we meant.
Way to much loctite
