Oh my, Jana, I so love your Chanel- your frog and chicken shenanigans are ever so entertaining. When you said you need to make life changes because your family just does “work, work work-dead”, I spit out my coffee and couldn’t stop laughing (not that it was a funny statement-very sad, actually, but I couldn’t help myself-you could be a comedian). I knit Henny, the emotional support chicken after I saw Clucky on your last episode. Henny is very cuddly. I gave her to my daughter, who is struggling with depression and she says she doesn’t get it. 🥺Hopefully Henny will grow on her. My granddaughter loves it, so maybe she will adopt Henny. I am currently knitting my second Manhattan hat for my son-in-law and son.

How about knitting Stick Season by Rebecca Clow for your husband and use a blown or woollen spun yarn so it will be light and knit up quickly.

When you leave a comment and someone replies ( I know you replied😂) but the person whose channel it is can’t always see comments posted on the comments. Better to edit it and add into first comment or make another comment on her post. Not sure that explained it properly, I learned this not long ago. 🙋🏼‍♀️

The well-loved crochet has held up very well. 😍
It’s good to have this space to talk things through. Because we are bombarded with sooo much good and bad information every single day it can cause our minds to overwork/overthink.
Fortunately, Hubby is in a similar place and you both will be able to work out the “next steps” of life so that you’ll both have more joy.
When you spoke of your prior generations working all the time until they died, you got my attention. I needed to hear that and will be adding self-care back into my life. Thank you, Jana. ♥️😘

I just love spending time with you each week. It's hard to balance work & family life, and still have any brain space for anything that involves taking care of yourself. I'm almost 2 decades older than you and can tell you that it does get easier. As kids grow up, as we learn to put our foot down and stop trying to please everyone, it gets easier. My 50's have been much more easy mentally than when I was younger. The picture in my head of me spinning too many plates in the air on tall sticks has changed. I used to be very afraid the plates would all come crashing down. Now I know that one will fall once in a while and just pick up the pieces and keep going. I really have only 2 suggestions. 1) You only get to have your kids as kids for a very short time. Do everything you can to really enjoy that time. 2) Make those changes at work so that you can do more of what you love. It will all work out. When you do what you love the love put in comes back to you. It's really ok to really love what you do for work. It's still work and it's not less, just because you enjoy it. Even though I knew that early on, it took a long time to start to live it. Now I do what I can to limit the parts of my business that I don't enjoy as much. I still have to take care of them, but I will find ways to automate those tasks, hire them out, etc. That way I can focus more on the parts that I really enjoy. It's worth the effort & sacrifice to rearrange it. Take care & lots of hugs. ❤🐔🦊

Hello from USA: You are smart, funny and very entertaining. Love your chatty style. I can knit a scarf doing just the garter stitch, and I consider that an acievement 😂. I love how you did the Security Chicken, such fun. I wish I could really do a sweater , a hat or shawl, but I think I first have to master knitting in the round, and for some reason I can’t even complete the cast-on. Even though I’m a total novice, I so enjoy seeing the projects you have done and are doing. Thank you for this interesting channel.

Sending many hugs, and yes you should absolutely focus on what you love, and clear out the rest as much as possible. Please do look after yourself! You sound a lot like I felt before I got my ADHD diagnosis in my late 30's, as I had always been (unknowingly) overcompensating for my ADHD, being a perfectionist and a master planner, which left me absolutely exhausted and burnt out. So absolutely do take some time off, be with your kids, take time for knitting, go outside if the weather allows it, and let a breath of fresh air into your head 😘

I opened up a little store just before Christmas. I'm there Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. I go to my knitting group on Mondays often followed by appointments. Friday is Spinning Day and I will be running the group soon. Sunday I still have a permanent stall at a Market. I mostly sell my own stuff and a few commissions from local fibre artists. Like you I'm running out of time to dye yarn and wow housework isn't getting done either. On a good note, I'm getting lots of spinning done in the shop.

Before the pandemic, my store was open 6 days a week. I almost got a burnout back then, but the lockdown kind of saved me. I'm now more careful with my time, but it still doesn't feel quite right. I hope I can figure it out. 😄
I'm glad you're getting a lot of spinning done! 👍❤️

Thank you for being so transparent about what is going on and just being real. I believe God allows seasons in our life where we feeling of discontent. This is usually because we need to focus on Him and what He wants for our lives, which is to have a relationship with Him though His Son Jesus. I would encourage you to look up John 3:16 and 1 John 3:15 in the Bible. This is where we find true contentment and direction for our lives. God bless and thank you your positive outlook on life. Hello from Canada! Thank you for sharing all of your knits and chat.
Looking for change and obtaining a better balance for self-care has been on my mind lately as well. I'm realizing that I have limitations and I need to respect them. I'm going to need to make changes in my work life to optimize my time and income. It's not an easy process. Just know you are not alone❤
As for the perfectionist side of me, I now go with 2 concepts: 1. Good, better, best system. And 2. There are no straight line in a garden. These are my reminders to focus my energy on what I can do/have versus what I've idealized. I hope this might help you too!
FYI my birthday cast-on is an emotional support chicken! I agree, everyone should have one!

I love the little things. I put together a project bag with thread and 0.5 mm crochet hook to make granny squares. My son just shook his and said, "You and your miinis." I used to make tiny little quilts and embroideries. I am also making lots of Tunisian crochet stitch swatches for my classes I am teaching. We had several days in the 80s (26+) so great time to sit on the patio and work on projects.

When you first showed Clucky I thought she was cute but nothing I needed. But then I realized that I had the perfect yarn for one. Then I got the pattern. Casting her on is probably not too far away in the future. Thanks for infecting me!! ;-) I don't know why you don't like to talk about your work. I love to hear about your shop and your yarn dying. It was one of the things I really enjoyed about your vlogmas episodes: getting to see your work a little bit. Don't hesitate to talk about it on the podcast. I'll be sure to check out your English online shop. Duolingo is great. I lived in China for 5 years. I still use Duolingo to not forget the little bit of Chinese that I learned. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. Someone told me that every 6-7 years we change, our children are growing, live changes and I think every spring we need to rearrange. And you’re right, the situations are going mad, therefor I knit and spin and sew and color up my live. Your tiny waterbottelcover kicked me out of my shoes, I love it. You inspired me to knit small things, they are perfect gifts for each occasion. What I’m knitting, still a second pair of socks for my son, he where’s shoes size 48, with needle size 2. I don’t know why. Planing to knit Umma, looks perfect for my freezing neck. Have fun and enjoy yourself.

Tiny knits are fun and very satisfying. Especially when you have a large long-term project (like giant socks on small needles) that won't be ready any time soon. 😄

Not sure about where you live but at my local libraries nearly all have a knitting group, my recreation center even has one. The people who go to the group here would be very happy to help you learn to knit in circles, might be worth checking out. A lot of knitting shops have knit night or other groups who would also help you. 👍🏼Good luck, it’s all practice, I’m sure there are Utube videos that show you how too. 🙋🏼‍♀️

I always love watching your episodes and after hearing you talk about Finnish Sheep Wool in the past I decided I’m going to be knitting a sweater in Tukuwool next month. Never tried it before so I’m hoping it’s a good one lol. It’s so cool that you’ve made an English version of your shop. I have looked at it a few times in the past with dreamy eyes lol, but sadly I’m in the UK which makes it awkward. I live in hope that one day they will reverse Brexit 😂

Thank you! I've knit with Tukuwool a few times. It's quite rustic, but nice.
I can still ship to the UK, but there is a silly Brexit VAT law that's making things a bit difficult. The order needs to be at least 135 £ (VAT 0%) and then the customer pays local VAT upon arrival. The good news is that it's a bit cheaper that way because Finnish VAT is a killer. 😄

Wauv I want to learn finnish? But noone in Denmark wants that. I know a finnish lady who speaks danish and has never been to Denmark - she said " I just think it was a funny language". After being to Finland some years ago - I want to know what the words mean - at least the knitting words. I like languages too Jana .......I went to DUOLINGO right away to learn finnish. .... Minä olen Pia Thank you so much Having wanted that for years....Thanks ("tak" in danish and "tack" in swedish) for your lovely podcast .... I just love it.🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊

Franny’s emotional support chicken!!🤣 Oh Jana, I haven’t laughed so hard in a while!. I’m recovering from a hand surgery and can’t knit and was feeling sorry for myself until I heard and saw Franny’s winter kit. I definitely need my own chicken. Thanks for making my day. I wholeheartedly agree about finding a better work-life balance. I wish you all the best in your search. ( btw, do you have shipping rates for Switzerland in your store? They are frequently left out of consideration since they are not part of the EU.)

Please tell me you’ve seen the move Chicken Run (2000). If not I highly recommend it. It’s family friendly, a stop motion movie, but the reason I thought of it is because one of the chickens knits and I think several wear knitted scarves and garments. Not completely sure because it’s been ages since I’ve seen it. Anyway, I hope you can get access to it if you haven’t seen it. Your support chicken and her shawl reminded me of it.

A good online translation dictionary is deepL. So much better with translations than google. Im learning French. My native tongue is English. Start watching Swedish podcasts NOW. As we pick up a language quicker by listening. Not by reading alone. If you dont understand dont worry. Just listen. Dont look up words while you listen. Babies listen in order to start talking.

I started learning Swedish by watching Beck-serie. I also started to read LasseMajas Detektivbyrå. I started bit before covid-years and now I can understand it. I’m not fluent, but still I’m going to start learning another launguage besides it.
I’m not a fan of Duolingo. It is not my way of learning language. For me it is reading books and watching movies and series from tv or podcasts etc.
I’m still knitting Flax with sport weight yarn. Soon sleeves are done and I can continue working body part.

Ha--great to see the Vertices Unite swatch/shawl and the other minis are adorable! I have the pattern now for the ES Chicken but need to sort out yarns and the name...I am struggling right now to work on WIPs that I want--I want them to be done so I can wear them and also want to cast on and can't make decisions. So that means more house cleaning hoping that it will make it clear to my brain what to pick up and progress on. I thought I would finish the Geogradient this month for my birthday (I am almost done with Clue 2) but I have been distracted with shawls, socks, gift baby items.... Hopefully you have good weather and take some time to just be....whether it's with the kids, knitting, spinning, drinking coffee...

I want to learn Swedish someday-I have Swedish and Danish ancestry (my paternal great-great-grandparents).
Natela Astakhova has a men's dk/sport weight sweater called "Sweater with Storm Troopers".
I echo what someone else said about Brooklyn Tweed -they have some really great men's sweaters. I made the Sawyer for my ex-husband's partner and he loved it-it has some great texture but looks like a comfy sweatshirt. It calls for a worsted, but I think you could use a lighter weight and choose a larger size to knit.

Pausing to grin during your discussion about learning Swedish. I’m also a language nerd (although you do speak more languages than I do!), but I’m not a huge fan of Duolingo. If you’d prefer a more structured, traditional class, maybe you’d have better options with an online platform like Italki?
Personally, I like using comprehensible input and acquiring language more. Have you thought about listening to audio versions of things you already know well, like the Moomin books? (For me, I read the Harry Potter books in Spanish and French while learning those languages .) Generally when I’m starting out, I’ll play things at half speed-and when feasible, also have a written copy of the text that I use to follow along. But it could also just be something you listen to while you’re doing on other things, too-driving on your commute home, or cooking dinner, or even while you’re knitting. Swedish knitting podcasts should follow in no time!
Edit after finishing the episode: so glad you’re listening to your inner voice and making changes to re-prioritize the things that bring you joy! It’s so easy to become busy and just fill up our time with things that aren’t very important. We only have 24 hours a day, and I hope you can use more of that time on yarn dyeing and other things that make you happy.

I was wondering, what do you do with your fiber advent? So good to hear you just spin them all together! I have a sale fiber bag from hedgehog fibers and they’re all loose tidbits. I was wondering what to do with them (I’m just a newbie) and I thought I would spin them all on one bobbin and plie them with something else. ❤ I made the Jaiden sweater by Isabell Kraemer for my husband, it’s a great sweater and it’s DK/worsted? weight. He wears it all the time. I made it in drops Karisma.
