The project you started at the beginning of the war hold too much sadness and trauma. Frog it and make something happy for summer. We all need positive things around us. Love to you all from Australia ❤

I agree. I'm from Latvian brother country Lithuania. When Russia invaded Ukraine I was so shocked, I was not able to knit at all. Few weeks later I started a big black hairy sweater to make me warm if I'll be cold after not slept night. The sweater I made too big so donated it to local Ukrainian charity. The WIP of February... I finished it later but don't wear. Probably I need to get rid of it.

Thank you for sharing your WIPS. I know others say frog the blanket of sadness. I say when things are uncomfortable we need to lean into that sadness… give it to someone who needs to know this was made with your sadness, your heart your fear your empathy. Actually this needs priority. I would finish it for you if I could. … only my opinion

@@sallyidso182 I agree totally with this. Jana you felt/feel sad because you are so loving and care so much. Give the blanket with love. It will help you process the sadness and someone will cherish it.

I personally cannot stand having more than 2-3 wips at any given time. It stresses me out. But then I absolutely love watching everyone's wip parades and living vicariously through those who cast-on whenever they feel like with no worries! Thank you for sharing your wip parade! For any project you were undecided on, I'd say frog it. If you are not enjoying knitting it for any reason, no purpose in forcing your way through. Knitting is for joy! And there are always new, fabulous patterns coming out that the yarn could be used for! Take care Jana! ❤

I prefer to frog all my long-forgotten WIP's, it feels nice, cleaning up, freeing up pretty project bags, finding all that lost knitting needles, crochet hooks, stitch markers and cords 😄 and now I've got swift, all frogging goes so much faster. Plus my son who has ASD loves pulling yarn from the project, works as zen time for him. I love knitting because of the process not product, so frogging means more knitting in the future and no need to buy more yarn 😄
BTW, love your sweater/poncho! Need to add it to my list ❤

    Loved seeing your WIPs!
I’m currently recovering from knee surgery and have a lot of knitting time. I pulled out all my WIPs and am focusing on getting most finished. Isn’t it funny how they become WIPs? I’ve discovered a lot just needed finishing ( which apparently I hate, like sewing in ends) or I made a mistake and needed to frog and it got put down. It’s very satisfying to see them go from wip to done.
As for your war blanket, it’s a lovely child size blanket that would be appreciated by a refugee family. I’d do a quick finish, give it a lonnggg soaking bath in something nice smelling to wash away the sadness and pass on the love and goodness of your heart.💕

    @jessicaolney4900 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

I thoroughly enjoyed watching your WIP review while getting some time in on my WIPs and avoiding going through my pile...okay okay I will still do it 😂. For The blanket during the war, I would say if you don't want to see it, either finish and donate, or frog it and use the yarn over in a new project infused with happier thoughts: a renewal for you both. Glad you are keeping the ones that you are; sometimes if I pick up a WIp I was unsure of and start going again (assuming I know where I left off), I am glad to have it going again (other times, I can't be bothered and away it goes!). See you in a week! Have a fun week with the kiddos (and find some quiet time for yourself).

Your blankets are beautiful!!! Maybe you don’t like to make blankets as much as you like to start them? Such beautiful blankets and you were not excited about knitting them. And you are so far along that it would not be a chore to finish them. Granny stripe and the one made of small granny squares were both my favorites. Maybe you don’t have to make them as big as you originally planned. Good luck with all of the WIP’s.

Loved the walk through your WIPs! I’ve never been a monogamous knitter but I have learned to let things go. I noticed that a lot of your older knits were either greys or browns or neutrals. It’s lovely that you’ve incorporated more color into your knits more recently! Hope we all get to experience spring soon! Thank you for your channel. You’re a ray of sunshine. ❤

Lots of WIPS! I think if you take the ones you have decided to frog out of the bags you will rip them out, but in the bags they may get forgotten, and do the same with the undecided. You can see them and then will be able to make a better decision. I think it is cool that you can keep track of all your WIPS, I can barely remember what Line I am knitting on my current WIP!!!

I just love your wip episodes. It is fun to see and hear why some projects have not ended up finished projects.
I would just bind off the sorrow blanket. Make baby knits to make it a baby set and give it to charity. Family who gets the set won’t know your feelings and sees just a lovely blanket. I did this in first covid year. I knitted chemo hats and gave them to local hospital. I made over 100 of them in about 10months. I could not knit anything I would see in my life.

All your projects are really beautiful. Please finish your husbands birthday jumper, that would be the most special project to finish. The sad blanket, cast off and donate to an elderly charity or person as a lap blanket or shoulder wrap to keep them warm. Then the sad memory would be overtaken with a generous feeling that you warmed someone up who needed it. You don’t want to reknit it as the yarn would still be a reminder of sad times. Good idea to turn the jumper into a dress and you will wear it. Lots of love xxxx

If in doubt - rip it out. That’s my knitting motto
I agree with the comments below , frogging the projects you are not happy about will free up a lot of space both mental and physical
Use your energy for the projects you really love. There will be lots more patterns to come for the yarn you recover from your old unfinished work.
I loved the sweater you were wearing in the episode and your enthusiasm for yarn and knitting is so positive
Looking forward to your next show -with love from Wales

Thank you for sharing all your WIPs. I have about 9-10. Active WIPs are sitting at 3, a pair of size 11-12 women's almost entirely ribbed socks for a friend, a Norwegian style outdoor sweater by Kristin Drysdale and the Tessellated vest by Andrea Mowry. Its a good thing the vest is beautiful because it grows slowly. :) I sense the vest will be hibernating over the summer months. The sweater is bottom up and is almost at the part where I knit the sleeves and attach them. One of the socks is done and the other is already at the heel.

I have 4 current wips and 9 (or 11 if you count the two projects that need repairs) older wips. One of my current ones is socks that I keep in the car. I always have a car project, One is a current mystery kal with a wonderful German knitter/podcaster. There will be 2 more weekly clues and I'm up to date. One is my current sweater project (For Keeps Cardigan by Samantha Guerin). When that's finished I'll cast on the next sweater. And I have another small mindless wip (After Midnight MItts by Thea Colman) to pick up when I need something easy and mindless. When that's done I'll probably cast on something similarly small like a hat or mitts or another pair of socks, or pick up one of the older wips. I have another 12 virtual wips: those are projects I definitely want to make. I already have the pattern and yarn set aside in a project bag. Just haven't cast on yet. Not sure if that counts as a real wip - but they feel like wips to me! Most of my older wips I hope to finish. But the Stephen West Twists and Turns I might decide to frog. I never got past the first clue and I'm not sure I would wear it. I think you should finish your Migla Shawl and the 'Ukraine War Blanket". I think there is too much important emotion in the blanket to frog it! I loved this episode. Have fun with your kids this week! Greetings from Virginia, USA

I love seeing all your projects, always so beautiful! The war blanket clearly doesn't bring you any joy. If you can bring yourself to finish it you could then give it to one of the many people you helped at that time. Your heart will let you know who needs it most. 💖 I think even if you frog it and use the yarn for something else it will still hold too much sadness. Just my opinion. Wow!! You sure needed to do “finish it February “!! You have such a pile to worry over- it seems weighty to consider what to do with them all. Why not do something like dedicating a day each week, or certain full months this year to finish things? You could assign random numbers to items and pull from a hat to see who wins the finishing prize this month? Another idea is to have a set of them in a pile, and spend a certain number of hours on one, then shift your the next one (like 5-10 hours each item in the pile until completed? ).
I don’t have cast-on bug. I have the “completed” bug, so I don’t have a pile of wips- just an incomplete sock and the seemingly endless westknits Aurora cabin shawl. Then I get very impatient to decide what to do next. Of course, I’ve always had time to squeeze in another handspun gnome.
The psychology behind the war blanket is heavy. I understand the drive to knit away the worry and sorrow. Now it’s time to meditate while you pull it out and turn it into something else. If that yarn still holds too much sorrow after you rip it out, you could knit some hats or cowls for those in Ukraine that would benefit from them. A little love and pretty color for kids living a dark life?

Hi:) this was amazing. And I got a point, if I will stay with numbers of needles and numbers of project bags as it is right know, My maximum wip number can grow only to 5 :D:D:D ha ha. But i feel stressed out, if some of wips stay unattached too long, I am now on process to finish wip from autumn. But I have many new ideas and I have that feeling, that I really want to cast on something new! Also I have a rule, for all thing in my home (except books) : If i didn't touch it or I wasn't in need I get rid of them, I think I would frog all one year old wips, that I didn't knit.

Oh my goodness! I don't think I could have that many WIPs! My maximum WIPs that I've had is 6 but I currently have only 3. Birds of a Feather Shawl by Andrea Mowry, Bits and Bobs Blanket (also lives in my living room and eats leftovers) and Ranunculus by Midore Hirose. I usually always have a pair of socks on the needles too but I just finished a pair today. I suspect I will start another pair tomorrow. Sock projects get done when they get done and are the project of choice to take to work, meetings or appointments. Enjoy the winter break with your kiddos!

I love your WIPS. You have exactly the right amount. I'm of the same mind. I can frog items no problem. I love the process of knitting. WIPS are a natural part of the process for me.

Wow, it would stress me out so much to have that many WIPs. I am mostly a monogamous knitter, although sometimes I'll have a more mindless project to switch to when I'm working on something more complex, or some socks in between something bigger. If I don't want to work on something anymore I generally give myself one new project and then return to the previous one to either finish or frog it.
I do love planning projects though, so if I get the itch, I'll browse patterns to go with yarn I have or the other way round, and plan out what I can make next. It helps me to finish a project if I'm excited about the next one!

I have many, many wipes, too. Usually, I finish them, even it takes me years😅😅😅

Good for you to go through these WIPs/UFOs! If you ever go on Roxanne Richardson's cast, she has a "Finish it February" thing, when you devote yourself to finishing (or more recently also mending) things for that one month. She has frog and finish piles but also an ambiguous pile (which means you keep them and think about it more next year). I don't actually do that specifically, but it is a useful way to think about it.

I only have ever 1 wip on the go and that’s my actual knitting! I annoy myself by not letting myself cast on anything else till that single project is complete. Odd exception might be a sock if I am looking to take knitting away at any time. I’m maybe not the fastest of knitters but I do have time every day to knit. My other trait is never getting castonitis. I take ages messing about looking at patterns and wools before I get going. Envious of people who can cast on with gay abandon . Says something about me I suppose but all that said, I love knitting. Enjoy yours 😊

    Yesssss🎉 a parade! 🎉🎉🎉
They are all so good, so many good ones!
I can not fot the life of me figure it out for myself. I can have a hundred life-y projects on the go all day every day. Like right now I have a dishwasher running, sorting out the closet, washing clothing, ect. But when it comes to knitting, it’s always one or max. two projects at a time 🙄 Have one on the go, and then dream and plan all the rest in my head. I remember I wrote the same thing on your last year’s video. Anyone else like that? 🤨

Well, there is no same connected with works in progress, we just do what we enjoy and some of us just knit one sock and then move on to the next exciting yarn and start another sock and some of us just knit both socks, but in the end it dose not matter. I may have around 6 orphan socks, a couple of shawls, which I plan to frog, one sweater that I am working on actively and one I hope to get back to and maybe two vest projects. I do tend to have some orphan socks once in a while, but not for long. My motto, do what makes you happy in the moment, no shame, just having fun in the end. That is what it is all about in the end, enjoying the yarn and the process. And, if possible, make someone else happy in the process when they receive something special off our needles.

I think you’ve made good choices sorting out your Wips ( before our eyes 👀 !) Knitting is a world of FREEDOM and you illustrate that wisdom so well ! We all have the choice to frog, put aside or continue a garment, a project. It depends on our mood, our stories, our feelings in the present but in the end we make our choices out of pure FREEDOM. Thank you to illustrate so well that important side of knitting ! Your videos are always oxygen bubbles in my head, they travel in it through the week, finding happily their ways besides other bubbles, other joys..

Hi there, loved your podcast as usual ❤. I am also a non monogamous knitter and at the moment have 5 wips on the go (I'm not counting the sweater that I need to pull back the cuffs and knit about 10cm more on each cuff and maybe 5 cm more on the bottom nor the socks that need mending)😅

I think wips should be considered as a wardrobe. You never know what you're gonna need so it's good to have everything. 😅 At the moment I have 45 wips, but it's ten less than I had at the beginning of the year. My knitting goal for this year is to finish most of my wips because I noticed 55 wips is my personal wip anxiety limit. 😂

Thanks for the podcast Jana. Having watched this episode - I feel stressed!! Love that fancy sweater that needs sleeves. Finish that project. Finish your husband’s jumper. Donate the rest to charity! Life’s too short to stuff mushrooms. New year - new yarn. No time to fret about past stuff. 😊

Your Metsa Kikku is gorgeous ... Maybe just put a few rows of rib in colour of neck ribbing just on where sleeves would go & have it like a long vest to wear over a skivvy or something ling sleeved, with a belt maybe over jeans or long skirt ❤ Susannah

Wow what an amazing collection of WIPs. How do you keep track of where you have got to, especially in the sweater patterns. I personally get stressed if I have more than four projects on the go. A while back a podcaster I follow had a ‘Finish it Friday’ where she only worked on WIPs on a Fridays which seemed like a great idea to help reduce the pile.

So many lovely things here Jana. I could never have a lot of WIPs because I wouldn't have that many needles in certain sizes, and I would be buying more each time. It would also take some of the joy out of the knitting because it would worry me that I wasn't going to finish something. But we are all different, it works the opposite way for you, and so we have this lovely video from you showing us 32 different patterns. 😂❤️
