For those of us whom have never tried borscht, maybe u could show us how u make yours :) it would be nice to try something authentic for sure :) great sweater and wrap! I cannot afford spin cycle, so I use feederbrook farms which is a whole skein of bouncy BFL for the same price as a half skein of spin cycle. Plus the non superwash BFL is so lovely! Stay nice and toasty warm!

Agree! Feederbrook Farms is just as nice and so much more affordable!

Thank you! Cooking the borsch would require a whole episode. There are so many regional variations out there that someone will definitely come to tell me that I'm doing it wrong. 😄
I really like Schoppel Edition 3 instead of the Spincycle. It's very affordable over here and has lots of great colours.

I love that you make these amazing projects and put them to use right away. 😍
The well-loved knits segment is always a treat. It gives us an idea of whether or not we can live with the pill-iness of an item that took a long time to complete. Sophia's water bottle cover's condition was quite shocking, but easily fixed. 😉
Word of the Day is a great segment. I like to compare languages, but the words in these 2 languages are mostly so different each week and I appreciate hearing them.
Thank you for sharing, Jana. ❤

Hi, I love all of your cast ons. Old or new. I admire all you can do to knit your pretty sweater that you are knitting. Your snow is so deep. Here in the USA, I am from Minnesota. It gets very cold and the winds that blow freezing snow in my face. Please stay safe. I love your post and beautiful stories. I look forward to seeing you again soon. I hope you are well. Take care. Happy knitting and new cast ons. ☺💞

Whenever I hear the jingle bell, I assume it is my dogs somewhere in the house. They both wear giant brass jingle bells so that 1. I can find them when they run off into the woods. 2. Hunters will understand that they aren't bears if they happen to catch a glimpse of them. Your little bells on your knits sound like my dogs off in the distance. :)

I feel the same way about snow and winter, we don‘t get enough these days; I‘m in lowland Switzerland, maybe I should move to a higher altitude! Most houses have some sort of shelter over the main door (there is a covered balcony above ours) to stop the snow being too high - also our doors open inwards. I‘ve noticed that doors in northern Europe usually open outwards, like English windows - that is so odd to me! I can easily clean both the inside and outside of our windows because they open inwards.
Please keep telling us the interesting words in Latvian and Finnish as well as cultural things. We are so ignorant about the Baltic states, well anywhere that wasn‘t a big player in European history, I love to know more about those things that were really just as important and influenced history as much as anywhere else.

I have been iced in for a week here in Alabama in the USA. Ice and snow are very rare here so I have been knitting away since travel has been impossible. Any little bit of snow or ice starts a major panic because we are just not used to it here. You would probably laugh at how crazy everyone gets when you deal with it everyday. I love your podcast your so funny and talented. You knit so fast it’s just incredible. If you do write up your wrap pattern I would buy it it’s very cute. I don’t get advents but I could use some other yarn I have and it would even be nice as a solid color. Thanks for sharing your knitting and your lovely family.

Well I thought we were having some bad winter weather here in Pennsylvania USA, brutally cold, with wind chills in single digits, drifting snow etc, but it’s nothing compared to what you are dealing with 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️. I think a lot of us get cast onitis this time of year. My head is spinning with all the things I want to make but I’m forcing myself to finish my WIPs. Otherwise I get overwhelmed! Thanks for the laughs… 😂😂

It's pretty much the regular winter over here. 😄
Castonitins might be contagious. I always see other people casting on and I catch it, too. 😄 I'm allowing myself one new cast-on at the moment. I need to get my WIP count a bit down, some of them have been waiting forever. 😄

Hello dear Jana. Your sheep sweater - oh my God...... I love it.🥰❤❤❤❤ I must make one immediately. And most of all because of the way you put the pattern colors and and....it is so lovely and fine - a work of art.
😋Castonitis ...ha ha ha You are not alone - but it is like medicine to the soul - always exploring a new knit. Then you feel so much alive!!! And later you get stressed, that you have started so many things.....
I am danish. #Pellemor9 - Word of the Day: Yarn: Dzija in Latvian - Lanka in Finnish - Garn in Danish. I try to teach myself a little finnish - to be able to read a knitting pattern in Finnish. A lovely language.
I have a list of words from DROPS - and Google - but the list is best.

A blanket I would like to see again is one that you crocheted and sort of zigzag with a kind of spike stitch that looked complicated, but you said it was not. I am trying to remember if it was scrappy or had planned colors. I'm looking for a scrappy and really liked yours but wasn't ready to start one at that time. Hope I have given you enough clues!

Look at the Ilha sweater. It has cables but not in traditional sense. And you dont need to use a cable needle. After working in a Vascular ward, we had 3 cases of scold burns from hot water bottles bursting. I will not use them. A wheat bag heated in the microwave is safer. Can you not use electric blankets on the bed mattress. You can heat the bed up before going to bed, then turn it off. If you are worried about consuming electricity.

As always you have made me smile, I so enjoy your vlogs. I live in Michigan in the US and we have had very cold weather along with lots of snow. Not as much as you get but it’s been here for a week but may melt over next week. I’m like you, I don’t mind the cold and snow but the heat drives me nuts. I live in southern Michigan so I can always move to the top of the state for additional snow and cold weather (as long as I have someone to shovel for me! 😅)

Thank you! Jackie demands scratches every time I sit down to knit. She thinks that's way more important. 😄
I think I also need to join Finish it February. 👍❤️

If it helps I've knit quite a few socks from Maximoo yarns and never had issues with the water being dark after blocking, but I have mainly used his brighter colours. I love the look of your knitted coat! I wish it got cold enough here in Australia to wear something like that!

OOOOh Borscht! I love Borscht. How do you make yours? Your sweater looks beautiful. I still haven't knit anything from unspun, It's sitting there waiting for me - complete with yarn and pattern. But other stuff keeps grabbing my attention. I really need to get to that project! Wonderful podcast! Thanks!

So glad to hear you today, was lonely. In IL we had brutal cold with strong winds such that house stayed at 56F if lucky, dogs of course wanted to stand and sniff the wind often but could barely walk back in. was a bit warmer on Thursday so did errands and stocked up so am good but 3 in of snow is really no big deal but right aroung zero F again. Hope it really does go to 21F tomorrow. Driving in town is a challenge as they don't do roads for 3 in... I stay home. with you.

Your Sheep Camp sweater is lovely with its soft colorways and versatile cropped length. The Advent Wrap seems like a garment that you'll enjoy wearing in all seasons. Glad your new Half+Half Triangles Wrap project is knitted with Linen Quill, a yarn you've been wanting to try. What are the names of the 2 Linen Quill colors you're using for it? The orange looks like it might be Peachy Pink or Super Orange. So sweet that you've ended this episode with Jackie by your side as you knit.

I live in southwest lower Michigan and over the last week we have had over 20” of snow. Lots of it is lake effect because we are 30 minutes from Lake Michigan. I do not love it like you do. Maybe you need to try a texture sweater instead of going back to cables right away. They are all the rage right now. I am worried about your dark yarn. I would probably rip it back and leave that color out. No one will know and it’s plenty long enough. Then you can use that yarn when you are working with darker colors on a different project. But that’s just me. As you can tell, I have had a problem in the past. Good luck with that!

Hmm, I didn't even think about a textured sweater. 🤔 Thank you! ❤️
Oh, I've had problems with yarn as well - black, red, green, pink... You name it, no yarn can be trusted. 😂 I've had a teal one from Malabrigo that never stopped bleeding. 😄

Hi Jana, all of your knitting is so beautiful and the way you take a pattern and make changes to suit you is amazing. You are so talented. For the Polesden Shawl try “color catcher” sheets and dip the shawl sideways so the water runs off away from the white. Happy new year 🎉to you and your family.

Thank you! ❤️ I've learned the hard way to always use those sheets when blocking something colourful. 😄
