Right, so I know that the Wii U was objectively a failure, but it came into my life at just the right time.
I had just started college and my pc broke. I ended up using the internet browser on the Wii U for alot of school work.
Because of that (and the virtual console) I've got a real soft spot for the Wii U.
The best part about Pretendo Network (online server replacement) is that they are planning on hosting an archived snapshot of all the Nintendo uploaded Mario Maker levels so they won't be lost and will be available even after the shutdown!
Perfect timing, I literally got a Wii U just yesterday
Wait what? Hope whoever sold it gave you a good deal. I'm just surprised because the Wii U has been discontinued for quite some time. It was a fun console but I like my switch a lot more

If you only count Wii U games, there are lots of better options like PS4 or Switch.
RIP Wii U. I have so many memories with the Wii U, and it’s the reason why I love video games now. It’s sad to see the Wii U discontinued.

@@kirotalksyt For any wanting to play StarFox listen carefully, don't play the main story first. Go to training mode and spend about two hours learning the controls, because the motion controls are kinda complicated. There's a minus button that swap screens and you have the ability to turn the motion controls on or off in the pause menu. It's easier to shoot everyone in first person mode, where as all ranged mode is easier for avoiding enemies.
The Wii U is not underappreciated, it got the reception it deserved. Nintendo didn't know how to promote it and there was a drought of games for literally years.
The amount of memories I had on the Wii U are amazing
Anyone who still plays Splatoon 1 or wants to, remember that Pretendo exists. As long as enough people actually set it up and play the game can stay alive and it won't be over, but enough people have to actually do that.
There are still some games I've heard great things about stuck on the Wii U like HarmoKnight and Xenoblade Chronicles X.
Tbh the Wii U is still one of my favorite consoles mostly cause some of the games made for it like Mario maker, yoshi wooly world, Mario 3dworld, smash 4 etc were the best to play
Miiverse an the menus just had so much more then the Switch ever has
seeing post inside games in different ways was really comfy
an finding children make up crazy fanfics in real-time was surreal
or the kid is just rambling about not having a girl to talk too :D
Thats on miiverse is a 53 episode series just reading an acting out post its beautiful
The Wii U had done one thing that changed Nintendo forever. It gave us splatoon. Nintendo is known for having the most first party franchises in gaming. Nintendo had so many that it looked like we were never going to get any New Franchises again. Then Splatoon came out and now it is in the top 5 most popular Nintendo franchises ever
There were other franchises in the wii-ds era that nintendo tried to develop, but splatoon was kinda the only one that got so big

It's just the franchises developed from the Wii/ds era were casual focused ip's, nothing we care about. but they are the among the most successful ip's Nintendo, hell video games in general, ever had. Things like Wii/switch sports, clubhouse games, brain training, style savvy, Nintendogs are things people like us don't think about/care about, but they take nothing to make and sell 20-30 million each game. They're just as big/bigger than splatoon.

While all these games are fun, I think it kind of illustrates exactly why people don't really look back on this console so fondly. All of the games you talked about here aren't really unique to the Wii U anymore. Splatoon and Mario Maker have "straight upgrade" style sequels and sonic lost world is on PC, and generally isn't considered one of the better sonic games. This kind of applies to a lot of Wii U games, but I still look back on it fondly, it had some really fun games :)

I really love how they brought back her and Acht in Splatoon 3. But now outside of the osts.
I remember being so disappointed when Mario Maker was revealed because it looked so limited. It's definitely the best glow-up from reveal to release I've seen from Nintendo.
Despite how much hate the Wii U gets, I actually really loved playing it as a kid.
It's probably one of my favorite gaming consoles of all-time.
I really like the Sonic Lost world people said that game was bad but I really liked him I 100% of that game got all red rings
Never had one but I have a lot of memories of watching people play wii u games and wishing I had one since so many games I found cool were on it
Although I never owned one the games give me a rush of nostalgia
I do wish I played splatoon more. I did have it on my Wii U but I only played split screen multiplayer with some friends of mine and I didn't do it very often. Wish I had played the single player campaign all the way through and played it online. During the lifespan of the Wii U honestly sometimes I was just a lot more busy with having to work very often. This is why I find my switch to be very advantageous so I can actually take it with me when there is down time

Yes. It's one of my all-time favorite consoles.
The Wii U was so good that its games formed a major part of the Switch’s library and sold insanely well. Mario Kart 8 and BOTW are the best examples of this: easily the highest selling games in their series, ever. The Wii U ultimately succeeded in many ways, although it took a new piece of hardware expanding on its ideas to get there.

I was always more of a Wii U guy. 3DS to me was mostly just boring Mario games.
Okay, some 3DS games are kinda cool. It's just... Crap like Tennis Open.
Wii U just stands out with it's crazy goofy gimmicks. My personal most favorite thing about Nintendo stuff.
Okay, not all of it's games struck me, but there were still some really fun novelties.
Rainbow Curse, Tropical Freeze, Sonic Lost World, etc.
Also Wii U had the better Virtual Console choices.
GBA/DS/TurboGrafx/etc.

As someone who bought a Wii U back in 2013 and used it throughout its whole lifespan, i have a lot of great memories.
Of course im not gonna let my nostalgia fool me. The system wasn't very good, and i did wish i bought an XOne or PS4 instead.
I still go back and play Wii U games on my PC using Cemu from time to time.
I just bought my Wii U a week ago and it’s so much better than the switch!
While I think the Switch has a better library, the Switch definitely wouldn’t be where it is today without the Wii U
No, it's not. Switch just has the much better library and features.
@okagron Switch has a better library but most of it is ports, and alot of the third party games have thier worst version on switch. I've also found the quantity and quality of the exclusives are underwhelming (Arms, Animal Crossing, Mario spinoffs, Pokémon). In terms of features, the hardware quality is abysmal, there is no menu customization or music, you have to pay for online that barely works, and get drip fed NSO games

@@lucymorrison Nah Lost World sucks. It's clear example of Sega changing for the sake of changing when they had a formula figured in Generations. Not to mention a lot of Lost World is just terrible, from the writing to the level design.

Even though the Switch is objectively a better console, I don't love it nearly as much as the Wii U. Every time you would boot that thing up, it was almost like it was thanking you for purchasing it. Such simple, honest fun to be had on this thing.

really did love the wii u & is sad to see it's online go.(hope the next console brings that back alongside the virtual console as the switch's alternatives are tbh just very bad.)
super mario maker was until wonder my favorite 2d mario experience after mario world as a fun anniversary gift with having levels in older styles,the event courses(aardman was the weirdest to me though absolutely loved the nisekoi event & nintendo should do more shonen jump crossovers with that amiibo costume collab they did for one piece super grand battle x that's my favorite use of them.:3),playing levels from famous developers being the most creative mario had gotten & especially the amiibo costumes(that maker 2 was really weak for removing alongside it's other charming features.).
lost world was just a really needless bad mess(tbh sonic on the wii u/3ds in general sucked with how worse the 3ds version was.) with the worst version of tails,being bare with it's world,being way too experimental(not knowing what to do with super sonic,being very inconsistent and the wisp making a pointless appearance just to hide the bad gameplay with no reason givien for being involved.) and starting sonic's 2nd dark age till forces in a pointless change from the wonderful style generations had(that i still want to come back though did love frontiers.:3)/knuckles was pretty pointless and should've been on the lost hex beating up the deadly six but did have some good elements like eggman's moments/starting to remember amy's kindness instead of being a stalker that thankfully boom continued,it had a good foundation for a adventure revival(definitely for bringing back the bounce attack/just make the spindash good.),the dlc figuring out the game's style better than the game itself especially the zelda dlc(find funny within 2 years we had sonic,zoro & bayonetta wearing link's clothes.:3) and with how inspired it was from it making me wish they had just made a actual mario/sonic crossover with this instead of the way overstayed their welcome olympic games.
splatoon's the only shooter i cared for compared to generic needlessly everywhere cashgrab boring all the same war shooters as it had such a charming style,loved the music(remember during the buildup to it loved waking up to seeing the music on the eshop page during it.),fast pace(that did a great job forming a world with the wii u that i'd take what splatoon had compared to the soulless as the new series mario sports games on switch.),splatfest(still my favorite in 1 especially spongebob vs. patrick.),the live concerts with how much i absolutely love the idols(especially the story being fun though wish they'd focus less on the squid sisters as i love off the hook way more especially marina.:3).
Considering most Wii U exclusives got a sequel or port to Switch, yeah, the games are still good

Sonic Lost World isn't inspired by Mario Galaxy.
Sonic 3 did it almost 20 years before. And Sonic Adventure 2 did it 12 years before.
