I will always appreciate it when phones in games actually have screens that change whenever the player interacts with them, rather than being a static texture.
Yeah, I always appreciate little added details like that.

I thought it was really cool how the Like a Dragon/Yakuza series introduced the saving anywhere future with cellphones, because it really makes you feel the convenience that the characters would.
Where the characters are being given the convenience of instant direct communication with anyone anywhere, you are being given a comparable convenience through being able to save anywhere. It's subtle, and likely unintended, but it helps to get you in the headspace of the characters.
You can save anywhere in K1 and K2, but you cannot save anywhere in 3, 4, and 5, despite how the cellphone is actually a more integral part of those games due to revelations.
I love how in some retro games the cellphones you get sometimes predict how phones are today in many ways
In the Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe (I don't know if this happens in the original), there's a rare chance of a phone in the office to ring. One time, it said that I ordered cardboard boxes. The next game restart, literally the entire office was filled to the brim with cardboard boxes and papers. I laughed my head off. 🤣

In the Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe, for me literally nothing was different to the original until the time of the refund period ending, except the fact I fell through the floor 5 times.
I refunded the game and looked up the extra stuff and found it was basically just an hour long insult against those who bought the new version of the game, so I felt glad I refunded it.
@C.I... I never played the original, but I heard great stuff about it, so when the new version came out, I decided to play and have been having a wonderful time. I can't count how many times it made me laugh and look at my brother in concern. When I discovered the new content ending and the second way for most of the endings with the bucket, I just kept on booting it up, and there was always something new I didn't know about!
On the topic of phones in video games, I always think of the first No More Heroes. Before every boss battle, Travis gets a call from Sylvia. Because the Wii remote has a speaker on it, you take the call by putting the remote to your ear. It was a small thing, but I always thought it was neat
I love Pokémon Gold/Silver so much. Pokégear Phone, the Day/Night In-game Clock system, and Berry Planting.
I really enjoy getting calls from people I got my numbers from.
Although it's too bad the rematch calls aren't much of a challenge at all.
Missed opportunity to talk about Keitai Denjuu Telefang, the ultimate video game when it comes to phone usage
Kingdom hearts 3 even added a cellphone with built-in camera
There's also Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, where you can use a cell phone to call the other kirbys to assist you and also call the warp star to go back to the main hub (You can also bring teammates back to where you are if they get a game over in multiplayer).
Oh yeah that was a neat feature.
I love Kiryu in the thumbnail, and I think Watchdogs 1 and 2 had one of the best phones cause you could listen to music with it

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk's flip phone is fun! you can do selfies, play a mini game, listen/choose music, etc. You can do these while you play the game! Which is grinding rails, doing tricks and graffiti. Definitely one of the best and fun games released this year!

My favourite "phone in a video game" is that in Silent Hill Shattered Memories for the Wii, as you literally use the Wiimote's buttons to type in phone numbers, and then bring the wiimote up to your ear to hear the phone call through the Wiimote's speaker! That's like... *Frickin' GENIUS?!?!*

Yeah these are some pretty interesting features when it comes to phones. Not to mention there's telephones in links Awakening although they're not really useful You just talk to the same guy on it and he gives you the same dialogue over and over unless you advance the story.

I'm finishing up my last week now, as a matter of fact. So, I know it can be a bit overwhelming, but I'm here to tell you there's nothing to worry about. Uh, you'll do fine. So, let's just focus on getting you through your first week, okay? Uh, let's see, first there's an introductory greeting from the company that I'm supposed to read. Uh, it's kind of a legal thing, you know. Um, "Welcome to Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. A magical place for kids and grown-ups alike, where fantasy and fun come to life. Fazbear Entertainment is not responsible for damage to property or person. Upon discovering that damage or death has occurred, a missing person report will be filed within 90 days, or as soon property and premises have been thoroughly cleaned and bleached, and the carpets have been replaced." Blah, blah, blah. Now that might sound bad, I know, but there's really nothing to worry about. Uh, the animatronic characters here do get a bit quirky at night, but do I blame them? No. If I were forced to sing those same stupid songs for twenty years and I never got a bath? I'd probably be a bit irritable at night too. So, remember, these characters hold a special place in the hearts of children and we need to show them a little respect, right? Okay. So, just be aware, the characters do tend to wander a bit. Uh, they're left in some kind of free roaming mode at night. Uh... something about their servos locking up if they get turned off for too long. Uh, they used to be allowed to walk around during the day too. But then there was The Bite of '87. Yeah. I-It's amazing that the human body can live without the frontal lobe, you know? Uh, now concerning your safety, the only real risk to you as a night watchman here, if any, is the fact that these characters, uh, if they happen to see you after hours probably won't recognize you as a person. They'll pr- they'll most likely see you as a metal endoskeleton without its costume on. Now since that's against the rules here at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, they'll probably try to... forcefully stuff you inside a Freddy Fazbear suit. Um, now, that wouldn't be so bad if the suits themselves weren't filled with crossbeams, wires, and animatronic devices, especially around the facial area. So, you could imagine how having your head forcefully pressed inside one of those could cause a bit of discomfort... and death. Uh, the only parts of you that would likely see the light of day again would be your eyeballs and teeth when they pop out the front of the mask, heh. Y-Yeah, they don't tell you these things when you sign up. But hey, first day should be a breeze. I'll chat with you tomorrow. Uh, check those cameras, and remember to close the doors only if absolutely necessary. Gotta conserve power. Alright, good night.

Mother 1 main character's dad appears in the game after the credits in the Game Boy Advance port, but you only see his back as he's facing a payphone.
Metal Gear Solid codec ringtone will always going to be one of the best ringtones in video game history, and its still is to this day.

The yakuza example is a bit misleading honestly.
Kiryu has a cellphone in every game except for 0, where he has a pager.
He can save anywhere in Kiwami 1, Kiwami 2, and 6. He can only save at a phonebox in 3, 4, and 5, despite how he has a cellphone. It is moreso just a case of the newer entries (mainly those from the dragon engine era, as Kiwami 1 was developed at the same time as 6 despite being in the old engine) implemented manual saving anywhere.
Edit- The only "True" cellphone savegames though I believe are Judge Eyes and Lost Judgment, as Yagami's menu is his cellphone, whereas for all of the Kiryu/Ichiban games in the dragon engine, the cellphone is a separate tab in the menu screen, and the menu itself has no relation to a cellphone in design.

Silent Hill Shattered Memories has a really great cellphone, I was blown away by it especially considering it was on the PS2.

Scarface, a 2006 game, had an interactive phone where you could do a lot of things through it, things GTA only had 7 years later in GTA V:
Buy cars, furniture, weapons, investments, boats and mansion decor. You could also call a driver to deliver your car. Scarface is a game ahead of its time

For 911 operator I’m not sure if it’s in the game but people do call the police ordering a pizza as a message for help in hostage situations
I remember that viral thing, and basically every single response to it from operators was "do not fucking do this it's not some secret code we have, this guy just made it up for views and 911 will hang up on you"
I've been playing earthbound on the switch and I was wondering how the game saved without emulation

I'm making this comment with the intent of constructive criticism.
I don't understand this video, your channel poses the topics and videos as if they are video essays but this was just 9 min of naming games and explaining how phones appear in them, like a showcase trailer.
If this is the point of the videos please comment it under mine and I'll understand that it's just not for me, but if, like I think, your intent is to make a point, then please find something meaningful either to you personally or just something with a message you can convey to talk about, because right now this isn't more than a top 10 watch mojo.
