Fanatec Podium Wheel F1 - Unboxing and First Drive (Re-Upload)

One Sim Racing wheel I've been wanting to get for a long time is the @Fanatec Podium Series Direct Drive Wheel, and I finally was able to get my hands on one of my own! I was sent the Fanatec Podium Wheel F1, which is in essence their DD1 Direct Drive Wheel, but comes included with a Formula One style rim, as well as Playstation 4 Compatibility! So let's get this wheel set up and run a few laps!

I just received my formula V2 with the DD1 Podium base, I’m very excited to use it, I will be using the analog paddles as my speed and brakes, because I don’t have the use of my legs so I’m pumped to see how this will work in comparing to my normal hand controls.

Oh my god I'm very sorry for your loss. He seemed very knowledgeable, funny and friendly going by this stream alone. He has passed way too soon. This is terrible news. Life is so short.

Perfect video, perfect unboxing, just way outside the budger realm of the typical normal poor racer like me. 😕 (I use Xbox One X controller for casual racing. [PC2, F1 2017, and Dirt Rally 2.0])

6 months ago I woulda said the simicube is way ahead but now since fanatec are nailing the driver updates that gap is tiny imo I
Can you do comparison of this with CLS Elite? (aka the 2 Playstation compatible options) and let us know if it's actually worth the big price premium?

Hey @spiyder, I love it so far. The FFB is really responsive and I don't feel like I will ever have to upgrade to anything else.
@@JustinWolfs0n I'm kinda torn as to what to do. I really wish they would release a CSL DD for PS4 otherwise I may have to spend up for this wheel too. I'm just a little concerned as a beginner that the high FFB will cause me an injury in a crash.
I initially wanted the T300RS but going by reviews I'm concerned about the durability of their pedals and if the CSL DD does jn fact hit PS4 markets then the T300RS and similar belt driven wheels will quickly become obsolete.

it says on fanatec's website that all 2 wheel bases dont support ps4, what wheel base does support this wheel and ps4?

The motor is what needs to be compatible to work with PS4. The wheel needs to be XBox compatible to work with XBox.

You forgot to set your camera on auto focus.
If you want to show us something it is blurry.
But still a nice video.
Technically, the autofocus was working (and working really well) with my new camera, but I accidentally set the aperture to F2.8, instead of F4.0, which would have been better >.
As an ex-User I can say: Unfortunately no match for other brands on PC, but of course great if you want a DD for a console

Tom Yates Well, it comes down to how seriously you want to get into it. It’s fun and competitive on console, but any console, and be it the coming PS5 has serious limitations compared to a PC setup. I started on PS4, had a G29, a Fanatec CSL and a Fanatec F1 Racing Wheel. And then I felt I wanted more: more reality, more immersion, more feedback. So I sold my PS4s and built myself (yet another) new PC. And it’s a different world and a different level altogether. But only you can decide if you want or need that.
As a current SC2 owner and hearing about it from friends and with the latest driver I truly think it is at least a match to the SC2 considering the whole package. On base direct changes, games that hold podium profiles, fewer issues now AFAIK, and taking in to account SC2 weaknesses(recon filter, sub par low force quality, missing gamma filter except for on the ultimate, policy of wanting to dumb the filters down even further providing unknown future road map etc. etc.).
@@MajorWolf72 Only thing is the Gran Turismo franchise is exclusively PS4. I know it's not a true sim like iRacing but to ditch PS4 and the DD wheel means you must have hated that game and the wheel itself cause the wheel will work on both console and PC. If you spent a mountain already for PS4 I couldn't justify changing DD wheels.
@@ry4bfggfd I didn’t hate GT Sport at all. I just felt it lacked realism. I had been able to reach a very high level of driving expertise in a relatively short amount of time, and I KNOW I‘m not much above average in my driving skills. I had kept the Fanatec F1 Podium wheel when I transitioned to PC, and when it failed on me (for the second time and had to be replaced by Fanatec rather than being repaired) I pulled the trigger on a SC2 Pro and sold all my Fanatec stuff. Good thing is there’s always demand so I lost next to no money in these sales. After having added D-Box motion to my rig recently, my rig comes to around 25,000 US $ now. So yeah, a mountain, for real. And no comparison to my PS 4 times. But that’s what u do when they also make good money: They go all in on a hobby. For me, the hobby has now turned into my second career as I work for a simracing hardware manufacturer on the side now. Still, just looking at the DD line of Fanatec, it suffers from using outrunner motors. They are just no match to inrunners at the end of the day.
