Labrador Retriever and Steadiness Training to Cold Game

In this video, I am training my dog to be steady while I introduce it to retrieving cold game.
The dog has picked up and retrieve called game before, but intermittently, and since then, our retrieve training has predominantly focused on a variety of objects, which I like to do, and is beneficial to keep up a motivated retrieve for gun dog dummies.
It is very natural for the dog to become a little more aroused than usual when it is picking up on game, because it stirs the predatory instinct, so it gives us the opportunity to work on our steadiness and a better delivery.
My dog is rewarded for good steady behaviour with my praise and happiness, and is then released for a game with his ball. After that we play for a while maintaining our bond.
Sessions can be short and still be structured with great learning curves where you focus on improving a few areas of your work together.
