I got my first beagle on Jan.1, 1992. He was 5 weeks old. I fell in love with the breed and have had at least one beagle since then. Crickett is my 7 year old chocolate beagle. I love her so much. Her big sister, Bella is a 9 year old shepherd mix. They get along great together. I love them both as if they were blood family. They are family. I have had dogs my whole life. The day I was born we had a cocker spaniel. I have never been a single day without a dog and I'm 63. My 33 year old son is the same way.
After having more than 42 years a beagle in our house and the experience to live with them and love them I do appreciate your video. It’s perfect and gives the right tips and tricks. Thank you for charring.
"Once the beagle realises you want an item, he wants it even more". I have a year and a half old beagle, and the moment you try to take something (even a shoe or his toy) it becomes either a game or a nuclear war. The sweetest beagle in the world, but will snap when trying to take away a food item he claims as his. They steal a lot, but the more you 'punish' them for stealing or doing bad, the sneakier they become. My boy tends to 'talk' more than he does bay (the Aroooo sound they make), and not afraid to tell you what he thinks. LOVE MY BEAGLE!! Life is 100% more interesting with a beagle around; they will be your new forever-toddler :D
Beagles are a pack dog. They may and probably try to take hierarchy. I own 3 of this awesome puppers but when they try to get owner aggressive i pet them behind the ears and kiss their nose. They submit. I do not suggest to do that with an aggressive dogo as i know my beagles behaviors the reason why i do it.
Fantastic and sound advice! (As a Beagle owner) Ive seen many videos on here with rather "bad" advice about Beagles - but this is a very good one, filled with much sense and convering a range of important things.
bluehair MSP idk how your beagle will be but my beagle is very independent and never barks at people. He only barks at other dogs if he sees them through the window. He cries a lot tho for no reason lol
My Lola also barks at other dogs she sees out the window. Funny thing is, she's the friendliest with every dog when face to face. She never really howls, but then again we exercise her a lot so she has nothing left to misbehave or chew on things.
the one who lives with me doesnt bark often and really only bays when i tell him to. but when he was younger (1 year old) hed bark and bay like mad whenever i left. he settled over time and by 3 years old was more self-controlled. im *so* not a dog person and he makes me so frustrated but hes grown on me specifically because he so intelligent, friendly, gentle, funny, positive, energetic confident etc. good energy dog, i just hate that i cant walk him off leash like my other dog.
bandit is my rescued beagle he was a roaming beagle he came into our yard and came through our doggy door he was really skinny so we kept him he was such a good companion to me he is sleeping with me all the time
this is one of the best dogs from small breeds. I have 2 big caucasian shepherds that are 9x heavier than a beagle, but if I wanted to have a small dog this is the breed I would buy. a perfect dog for family, kids and older people.
getting one in a year from a laboratory. im a zookeeper and worked at bayer for 2 months and fell in love with one of the dogs. the only dog (out of 40 i worked with) that never made a sound, learned commands within hours and still had her hunting instinct and played tug-o-war. she will be 4 years old then and i cant wait to get her.
i dont think you quite got me. her vocal chords were/are fine. in germany the rules with laboratory animals are very strict. she was kept in a pack so she knows how to socialize with other dogs and all the others barked. she was just a quiet one which was nice for a change especially if youre surrounded by that many dogs that all want your attention and arent really quiet. i worked there because my apprenticeship asked for it and usually i work at a zoo. i was there for a short period of time to get a different viewing angle of whats going on in the other branches of animal keeping. i dont like it either but its definitely not as bad as everyone always makes it out to be. at least not in my country. cant speak for others. they dont endlessly test the same animals over and over again but cycle them in groups and if any issue comes up they can sit out too. i dont know what kind of horror facilities your country houses for animal testing and im well aware that in some countries there arent as many regulations as in germany since we have a stick up our arse for pretty much everything but sometimes that can be a good thing.
Ah, thank goodness for your work, and your channel! Our Beagle puppy is scheduled to come home to us in a few weeks, and I've been struggling with finding quality information from a breed-expert's perspective. Seems my search is over :-) The intro looks like Heaven to me, lol, lots of happy little Beagles hobbling around, having the best time ever! Subbed!
I adopted a best friend Beagle from the Animal Rescue, bought a collar and a leash and took him for a walk in our woodsy trail...he pulled so hard every time he smelled a rabbit scent that he pulled hard and choked himself on the collar! He coughed for about 4 days from that, all day and night at first! I quickly bought him a body harness and now there is nothing around his throat while sniffing! I never liked harnesses, but my hound loves it, he pulls like a Ox too! Good video :)
Although I didn’t learn anything from what was said, I still think the video was pretty good. The one thing that stood out in the video that would definitely make me think twice about getting a beagle is watching the part of the video in the beginning where it show a beagle jumping over the tall wooden fence, wow!
Nice things to know here. But I have a question. You say if your Beagle is somewhere where he is not supposed to be, instead of yelling, get a treat and throw it on the floor so the dog thinks it's his idea to jump down and retrieve. Okay. But then how will your dog learn that those places are the places where you don't want them? Or worse, won't the dog think if he goes in the places he's not supposed to be that he'll get a reward? Thought process being: Okay, if I sit on top of the kitchen table, I'll get a nice treat.
I did exactly the opposite of several of those topics and my dog is fine, he never bit nobody and it's always happy. There is no right way, you just have to pay attention to your dog and understand what he needs.
I have a ten years old beagle, name Spot. I discovered that if I make same things all days make my beagle obedient ha! he knows when I have to go work and when I came back, knows to knock the door when he wants to go to bath (Pi and poo) and also knows his Bath time, but this have been in all days since I took my beagle home for the first time, but still naughty and still stealing good on the first opportunity haha! . Beagle are awsome and i love mine all over the world, I think he does Too. is a nice dog , energy always and clever with the best nose in the Earth. Great vídeo, thanks allot kisses and hugs. :) nice day
The best way to house train them is to also crate train them. While they're in their crate, they will not pee or poop where they sleep. When you take a puppy out of his crate you immediately take him outside and let the magic happen! A crate will also provide your dog with a safe place. They are after all den animals with wolves being their ancestors.
thank you for all that sound advise. We have Beagles at our shelter one is Cooper, 4 year old male, who I visit every day and walk. Anyone interested please visit the Buddy Foundation in Arlington Heights, Il. He has been there for 6 months and needs a Beagle owner home. thanks. Patty
Hi, is it true that beagles howl relentlessly as i dont think the neighbors would appreciate that. I already have a working line German shepherd which i train in IPO. He is very docile and has a very happy disposition and is obviously full of drive based on the type of breed. I was thinking a beagle might be a good companion while I’m not around. What are your thoughts?
Beagles stealing food is a no no and can be corrected. Usually if caught they just look real guilty. Dont know what kind of beagles she has but even backed in a corner they wont bite. Our rescue beagle was abused as a puppy and will cower and shake in situations where he thinks he will be hit. He is better now but abuse has lasting effects. Love has made him very affectionate.
Peter Reynolds that was the same with my late Beagle-mix Jack. His pet boys gave him love, affection, and playtime that let him know the worst abuse he got was the bath.
I have a beagle and I could eat a pizza with him just sitting next to me hoping I either give him something. But if I left that pizza in the room with him and left for a second I would come back to him eating the entire thing. He would never snatch but would take any opportunity to get some food. He always looks guilty if he does take food though. It's like if you come home and he has had a shit on the floor accidently. He hides under the table like I'm gonna hit him haha. I have had a couple of dogs before the beagle but they really do become a proper little buddy to you, but also loveable but little bastards at the same time.
This showed up in my recommended video feed. I'm currently working with a Beagle, Jack Russell & Whippet mix. Oh, the humanity! He's a rescue from a high kill shelter. I'd love to get him a play pal/companion, but following the $5,100 in flooring damage he did in a 10 hour stint in a 4x4 kennel in my kitchen, that's not likely. He will bend to my will. It's his choice as to how difficult that will be for him. I am the unrelenting Alpha!
Video seems to give instruction on how to train or treat an adult beagle brought into you home. Do these same rules apply to a 8 to 10 week old beagle puppy?
But didn't she just give instructions for new owners, for what to do when you *first* bring the dog home? She's a breeder, I think, so she's just giving advice for the first few days...
I've always had this fascination about Beagles, but I've never had one. And truthfully, I'm not sure if I'll ever have one - are they really that loud? And can they be trusted off-leash as they have such strong hunting instincts?
What are you talking about? my beagles never bite or growl at us for food. You are giving them the wrong food if they are doing that! Beagles are big big eaters and will eat everything so talk to your local vet and they have food especially made for that. It fills them up without over-eating! My dogs bowls are always filled and they only finish the bowl every 3-4days. When we eat, they dont even come for a bite, they are full, they dont care. As a beagle owner, you should also know that a regular or choke collar is bad for a beagle. They can snap their neck very easily, a harness is recommended. My beagles dont pull at all on their leashes bc they have exercises at home to drain that energy like hunting games in our yard. With a harness at least they wont be out of breath chocking or hurt themself when the smell is too hard to turn away. I never offer treats to make him turn away... when your dog is trained, you dont have to do that. I only speak their names and they come! If they are loose, i just open the car door and they come running as fast as they can. They know we are going hunting! Know your breed before getting a dog! We have 2 beagles for hunting and yes they sleep in our room under our covers like babies not outside and a cat. They dont even go close to our cat bc they were trained young that cats are a no-no to hunt. We hunt ducks, prey birds, rabbits, deer, moose and we only let them loose after its down, safety for our dogs first.
I watched your Video.....very helpful......& to be a perfect ending........my dog's name its also......Copper...........Thnks very much....................Andres ( Long Island )
to Rushil Midha' the biting thing will go ..he is just young that's all & 'teething', I remember my beag'when she was a puppy would bite & chew to. Check on him with the fruit at this age, or ask your vet to.. toilet train him outside on the grass, & google training beagles..all in all you will be ok, they are a little disobedient all there life. go to puppy school aswell.
Dry food is normally ok, mix some canned food with the dry, buy from a good brand, poultry chicken fish beef, preteens, fats, digestible carbs, avoid taking out your puppy for exercise until hes done with all his shots, walking with a dog is healthy for the dog, play fetch with the dog, dont exercise the dog in extreme weather, sit, stay, come, drop, is some commands, take the dog outside to potty in the morning, 20 min after food, and before bed, BEAGLE PUPPY> FEED FOUR TIMES A DAY, 3 MONTHES OF AGE> THREE TIMES A DAY, 6 MONTHES OF AGE> TWO TIMES A DAY............when the dog is 1 YEAR OLD switch its food to an adult........
I have a beagle Dog. But my beagle dog has a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI). What would i do? Aside bringing him to the vet? Can anyone help my Dog's problem please? 😞
I really only think a vet can help correct the problem. But maybe just treat it the sam really. I imagine it hurts when it urinates but you can't exactly not give him water. Hope your doggy was ok...
I’m asking for a beagle puppy 🐶 for my birthday now on second thoughts I might change it to an other breed because she said be supervised around children at any age and I’m turning 13 and I want to give it all the love that it needs at cuddles can anyone help me on this ????
She is talking about a grown dog. Of course you can cuddle your dog and love him. But if you are adopting one then you need him to get used to his surroundings.
Beagles get such a bad reputation. The reason is that there are many people that like the looks of a beagle but do not have the patience to train them. My beagle is a blessing and one of the loves of my life. My wife and I love Zöe to death. She is so well mannered and a basket of fun :). It's all about training your pup with patience and consistency.
My beagle is great and my little friend but still no matter how much training. If I let him off the lead somewhere and he sees a cat. He will chase it until the end of the galaxy. I do let him off at the beach and when I'm with a group of other dogs on some grass and he is distracted. He still can be a little dick and he'll get his head out of his collar and get me to basically chase him. It's a game to him but he certainly wouldn't cross a road in a sensible way so I'm always cautious letting him off the lead.
This is probably the worst video about beagles ever I have a beagle puppy and let me tell you it’s hell he chews everything :( and chases everything. As for giving them treats to keep them away from something doesn’t work makes them do it more! Because then u are rewarding bad behaviour! There are other things to do. My boy is in training never stop training it gives them something to do and keeps them out of trouble no matter the age my boy is 11 weeks today so still in puppy stage
Beagles are the most friendly dogs. Love u my oreo . Cant live without u .

Best line: There are no bad beagles, only bad owners! I love my beagles
True
True. I love my beagle
I have seen some bad manner beagles.
But i got 3 of them dogos. Well they are awesome
Beagles are inherently bad
(Dont judge me for this - I own one and I like to be a little sarcastic. )
Fully agree

Mine either! She was raised with an older Golden Retriever, so I think she might have copied her good behavior.
mine doesnt even houl at all .... once in a while but thats it :P
I agree I just her home 7 days back she changed my world happy parenting
i got a beagle as a birthday. don't like him at first, now i can't imagine having any other dog as sweet and funny as mine
I'm late, BUT ALL THOSE BEAGLES ARE MY DREAM.
Awesome dogos they are.
This vid is not too accurate with who they are. Search more before you get one.

You need to watch Cesar Milan videos. He's the only authorative voice on dog training. The lady in this video is a hack
Zack George
Use his dog training vids
@@nininini542 i tryed his method dosent work only the tricks
@@herohour6496 cesar doesnt deal much with beagles. Their temperament is very different from the usual stressed out dogs he deals with.
It sounds like she's saying "Beetle" instead of Beagle.
Same
You must have a lot of free time on your hands,or are a democrat,to make such a stupid comment, just sayin'
Lottafandoms even the auto captions think she is saying beetle 😂
It's her accent

My beagle is very energetic and notorious but the most lovable creature in my life 😆😆😆😆
If you never take a beagle home you’ll never have to worry about what to expect when she gets there.
They are friendly and very helpful they are fit and if we train them they will be smart dogs, 😃😃😃😃😃😘😘😘😘😘
So cute beagles I love them I am going to buy them 😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘

When I'm an adult I'm gonna buy a beagle!❤
OK but be prepared for the next few months cause it's gonna be annoying for a while

Ok kids, lets not "bath our beetle."

Have him walk by your side and don't let him walk ahead of you. Be the leader.
to Rushil Midha' the biting thing will go ..he is just young that's all & 'teething', I remember my beag'when she was a puppy would bite & chew to.
I have a beagle puppy but he always bite us
Rekha Bera thats what every small dog does

I have a beagle Dog. But my beagle dog has a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI). What would i do? Aside bringing him to the vet? Can anyone help my Dog's problem please? 😞
I really only think a vet can help correct the problem. But maybe just treat it the sam really. I imagine it hurts when it urinates but you can't exactly not give him water. Hope your doggy was ok...
My Beagle is a very noisy one especially if she knows its dinner time
I’m asking for a beagle puppy 🐶 for my birthday now on second thoughts I might change it to an other breed because she said be supervised around children at any age and I’m turning 13 and I want to give it all the love that it needs at cuddles can anyone help me on this ????
She is talking about a grown dog. Of course you can cuddle your dog and love him. But if you are adopting one then you need him to get used to his surroundings.
I have 5 yr old beagle he us very dusobedient during walk
wow!
❤😊❤
Decent video but she kept saying "beadle" which was a bit weird.
Io ho 4 Beagle e vivo in Italia

I am Saanvi from India
Umm. Not with my be able.

I'm sorry, but most of what you are saying about beagles is wrong.
Not a very accurate vid. Sorry with much respect.
Only negative thing about them is their tendency to have separation anxiety, I hate leaving mine for long periods of time
