    Travis is one of the most criminally underrated country pickers ever. Absolutely ridiculous skills.

      My wife bought me tickets for my birthday a hell of a present his concert was the 12 of March my birthday was the 14th of March my son was born on February 9Th on Travis Tritt birthday my son's name is Travis lol true story

    • @RustyShakleford01
      @RustyShakleford01 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely. I always liked his music growing up in the 90s-2000s. So, when I finally got to see him a couple years ago in concert, I was pretty excited for it. But man, I had no idea what a great musician he actually is. Just him and an acoustic guitar and he put on one heck of a show.

    Fun fact about ol Travis, he will tell you he's never formally studied music. He still cannot read music. He's 100% self taught and plays by ear and feel. Legend.

    I had no idea Tritt could pick like this. So many country solo artists just wear the guitar as an accessory, it's nice to see it when they can play.

    I saw Travis Tritt in '97, he played in Massachusetts. Joe Diffie and Trisha Yearwood opened. My first and only Country music concert. The biggest surprise was discovering Travis is a phenomenal guitar player!!
    It was fantastic!
    Travis came on, by himself, sat on a stool, just like he's doing on this video, and took requests for almost an hour!! It was the coolest thing I'd ever witnessed and I've been all over Europe through the 1980s attending more concerts than I can possibly count...hundreds! You name a 1970s and 1980s band and chances are I saw them. But Travis, he took showmanship to the next level!
    Love your channel, I'm a new subscriber and rookie guitar player at 61 years young lol
    I'm intrigued by your little lessons you give. I've learned a couple things, especially TOOL tunes!

    I’ve seen Travis 3 times. He’s a killer guitar player. He hangs out with Marty Stuart. They both jam together. Speaking of Marty. You should do “That’s Country “

    • @1980bwc
      @1980bwc 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Heck yeah man! They are awesome together. I remember when they were touring together back in the 90's. They had some great songs together. Speaking of Marty songs, I love watching him play his song "Tempted". He's a musical historian and instrument collector. That makes him even better in my book. Love how he's still using Clarence's Tele. That guitar could have sit in a closet for years and years, and just rotted away, but he's still making it make music.

    I had the pleasure to see him at the former Lakeland Center in Lakeland Florida. at the time he was doing "Travis Tritt- A man and his guitar" tour. Was able to meet him back stage. This man is the most polite and down to earth person I've had the pleasure to be in the same room with. The show was knock down get up and move show I've ever seen and i've seen a lot of performers. No band was there, just him and his guitars for 90 mins. Even had a 12 string that he could make sing. By far he is the most underrated and recognized musicians in the industry.
    Would like to see you react to Keith Urban and his solos. Another great musician and performer.

    Heck yea man, friggin love the country guitar sound!! ...this may be a lil off subject idk, I was/am a big CDB fan and worked w them once arnd 05’, which most of the day I spent hangin with Taz (he played keys and co-wrote w CD since I believe the beginning-ish). At the time I remember trying to figure out Devil Went Down to Georgia so I asked him about the theory (I was also learning), he said something like “we wrote it in D and the melody drove it home, the rest really don’t matter” ..a total lightbulb moment. That dude was so cool with some wild stories, the fun inappropriate kind, and I came away with a lot of great memories... Anyhow apologies for the rant, this vid gave me nostalgia. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, and Yes more country pickin’ vids!

    Travis is one hell of a guitar player and many people don't really see that. I've covered his rendition of Long Haired Country Boy on my channel as well. I learned it by ear as I've never gotten guitar lessons. It's one heck of a fun song to play and sing. Your breakdown of the melody went waaay over my head haha but it was great hearing you discuss the mechanics of that song.

  • @rickdixontn

    There’s a reason Country is full of Blues. Memphis ain’t all that far from Nashville and the music all bubbled out of the ground in Tennessee. There’s something in the water in that State, I swear.

    I've finally started learning some theory over the past 2+ years - after being just a "dude who plays songs on guitar at a mediocre level" for the past 25 years (lol) - understanding the diatonic scale, intervals, major/minor, caged, triads, yada yada - I've found that I want to sob in my hands every time I see Palmisano break this shit down in one second flat (no pun intended) at genius level. It's like I now know what I don't know, and the problem is, I feel like I'm still never gonna know it! UGH! LOL. I think I need in-person, 1-hour lessons, 2x/week b/c I've been doing zoom lessons and watching a zillion videos, but I don't stay on track and on a certain area long enough to stick w/me good enough to really apply it. My zoom-teacher is like Palmisano, it's like savant level shit where he knows exactly what note/interval he's playing at anytime, and how it relates to the context of the melody, and all of it. It is absolutely mind bending to me.

    Love your advice to figure out the melody, or vocal line, and then go from there. There is a story attributed to Chet Atkins, in which a picker says he wasn't sure what to play during his break. Chet supposedly said "well the melody always works". True or not, I don't know, but it fits in with what you say. Like this one, by the way, TT is playing a Chet Atkins signature guitar. Good one.

    Love your videos!! Thank you so much for them. I'm surprised more people don't use the "Drop E" capo thing if they have a clamp-on caop that is open on one end. Capo five higher strings with capo upside-down and leave low E open to ring full.

    The actual reason he is playing in drop D capoed in E, is that is his comfortable vocal range. Everything else can be translated into D because it is all patterns. Loved the breakdown of this none the less. Keep it up brother.

    Ol' Trav is a guitarman. Make no mistake about that. Never saw him live. But if I did. I'd wanna see him on stage, with no band, except for him and his 6 friends. Flying solo, acoustically. He's a one man show. Saw too many videos of his past performances to think otherwise.

    I have no idea what you are talking about technically, but Travis' guitar tone is absolutely beautiful, and he captures the spirit of Charlie Daniels perfectly.
    "I ain't askin' nobody for nothing, if I can't get it on my own." That sums up exactly how we feel in the south.
