Travis Tritt is criminally underrated as a songwriter and ballad singer. He's always been a favorite of mine. I forgot to add a FANTASTIC singer is Conway Twitty you could check out.

He's got a TON of writing credits on other people's songs too, kinda like Stapleton, he writes way more songs than he releases himself. Also it's kind of a "country tradition" that friendly artists will say "hey I wrote this song for you" or even just plain like it better when somebody else does it.

The official music video of 'Anymore' is so very powerful. It is part of a trilogy of related songs, telling the story over three songs of a Veteran who reconnects with his wife after suffering a horrible injury, losing his wife, and almost losing his daughter. The songs is 'Anymore', 'Tell Me I Was Dreaming', and "If I Lost You'.
Travis acts in all three songs and it is his character's views that are being sung about. 'Anymore' was so hauntingly beautiful when I first heard it. You quickly become invested in the events of the videos.
The message of the song just hits you emotionally in the videos when you see the story being told.
    I highly recommend watching them.

In my opinion, Travis is not nasally at all. Rather, it seems that he is sort of “covering” his sound and it adds a Pearl Jam type vibe. He doesn’t sing this song that way on the original recording, so I can only suppose that he was influenced by someone else’s style.

Travis pulls off what few people can - one microphone, one guitar, one voice, one spotlight and one chair. Just him - alone on the stage. He owns his songs because what he sings is from his heart. That's where his voice emanates from. Technicality be hanged. If you feel a song, what comes out is emotion and honesty. You can't teach that which Travis has. It isn't learned.

This is actually western while country' is not southern so listen maybe Great Big Sea or Woody Guthrie.

    • @almostfm
      @almostfm 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

That line from the Blues Brothers actually used to be very true-"country" and "western" were very different. Country was based largely on traditional British/Irish folk music (so songs like "Long Black Veil" and other laments) come from that, while Western came from things like Texas Swing, which had a lot of jazz, Tejano, and Big Band influences. If you listen to Patsy Cline doing "Crazy" (written by Willie Nelson) there's nothing in the chord progression that would have felt out of place in a club that featured cool jazz.

In the South, folks warsh their clothes, cars, and winders. Sometimes they have to change a flat "tar" instead of tire. There is a stylistic way of singing in Country where the artists sing sort of in the front of their mouths. That goes back to Lefty Frizzel in the 1940s and 1950s. Merle Haggard was hugely influence by Lefty, and almost everyone in Country some way, some how copies Merle. George Strait does it a lot as well. Keith Whitley's "Don't Close Your Eyes" is a perfect example of the technique and the sound most male Country singers are trying to sound like. Love Travis Tritt. Saw his acoustic show right before the pandemic shut everything down.

I worked in country music radio sales in the early to mid 90's. I've seen Travis perform several times and met the man. He is sincere, down to earth. He is real. I don't understand why people are afraid to listen to country music today, especially after so many cross over talent...Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood...to name a couple.
I was born and raised in Chattanooga, TN...2 hours from Nashville.
Country music isn't what it used to be. With all the glitz and glam from all the pop, hip/hop, rap..
I can promise that you will always find...heart and...soul.

It is reported that he developed his sound from multiple sources, Bluegrass, African American gospel, and southern blues rock. Since you like the Country sound, check out a real true to life Singing Rodeo Cowboy. Chris LeDoux. He is the only artist to have both rode in and played at the same rodeo event. Cadillac Ranch and This Cowboys Hat are two of my favorites by him.

Give some older county a chance. The stuff before the record companies created this modern day template for radio country. Today’s country/pop country is HORRIBLE. But 90s and back country is great, and real. Now days they only want what sells. There’s a few good modern country artists like Tyler Childers or Cody Johnson, but they get way less radio play than these shit bag pop country fucks. I grew up on old country.

Travis is in the top 5 of my favorite Country singers. Vince Gill , George Jones, Chris Stapleton and naturally Garth Brooks finish the list.

Hard list to argue with! Glad my new favorite Stapleton made your list, while his Country label could be debatable to many of his fans..not that country label is bad or anything, he just seems to mix so many genres into his music..which is may be even more rare..could enter that Clapton discussion or more type artist.

Not sure why he is choosing to sing it with the R vowel like that. That is not normally how the song is sung so it's just a style choice he made during this performance for some reason.

I've been a life-long country music fan, but I did find his annunciation to be kinda odd when I first saw this video of him performing this live.. I never really heard it in his studio recordings. But for some reason it's more distinguishable when he's singing live. I don't know how to technically describe the specific notes that I'm referring to, but I've personally never noticed anyone sing with that technique before.
Edit: I think that's what I'm referring to 3:44 that I find odd about his singing style.
