Phrygian harmonic metal bluegrass! Love your shock and disbelief when you realize in the chorus they are going to the major 7 power chord (E5). So killer when he goes to the flat 3 chord and then sneaks in that quick flat 2 power chord before returning to the 1. Love how he sings major 3rds when it goes back to the 1 chord there. Maybe it’s more like an F5 at that point rather than Fm? Incredible stuff. Thank you Michael and Billy!!

I’ve been playing guitar for over two years now and I know some theory, but the way you’re able to just understand song as soon as you listen to them has really inspired me to start learning theory and ear training again. THANKS FOR BEING AWESOME!
This song is the embodiment of the chaos brought upon people by their turmoils and the tinfoil.... AND he makes it work and brings beauty into the chaos.
I bought a acoustic because of this Song. I’ve been practicing this song since January. I currently can play this at 90% speed for most parts and 100 for others. You picked this up so fast. There is no videos to show how to play this. Damn I wish you did this earlier. Lol. The beginning part you played, Pantera style is stretched 1 and 4the fret. Not 1 and 3. Hope you understand what I’m saying. I just learned to play basic cords, I have no clue what I’m talking about, lol. Guy is amazing. I’ve played nothing but metal my whole life and this guy toke it all away from me once I seen this video. Fucking best guitarist in the world
There's a pretty accurate tab on Songterr, and Ultimate Guitar. The hardest part of the whole song is after the first riff, the cross-picking 1st, and 4th frets on the D and A strings, with the open G string.
Epistaxis13 Glad to help, friend! 😊 I'd also recommend reaching out to Marcel Ardan, my personal favorite Bluegrass TH-cam instructor, if you have any more questions! He only charges $40 per minute of tabs... I am currently waiting on him to tab out the breaks for a few different performances of "Slow Train". Dude is freaking amazing! He has quite a few Tony Rice, and Billy Strings lessons on his page, check them out (if you haven't already, that is)!
Epistaxis13 Also, I feel like this is applicable even more towards Billy's songs than other artists.... Start slow (with a metronome), and then gradually pick-up the tempo! I'm not trying to be condescending, because that's literally the first thing any instructor would tell you. But, I often try to jump right ahead to the high BPM's for Bluegrass songs, and I alway end up regretting it. Haha. Don't be like me, nothing but bad times ahead! 😂
Best one yet. My favourite bit is at 19:44 when you say "that is hard to do actually". If watching you and the band was not electrifying enough, that just cracked me up. I have listened to some bluegrass metal but this is is a good shout. This band is so good, and when Billy smiles (which he does a lot), you know HE knows what YOU know, (that is you Michael rather than me who just thought it sounded awesome but didn't know why). he just pulled "a blinder", applied some special sauce! Thank you so much for breaking this down. By the way, love your lessons on Jamplay. Please more !
I’m gonna start working on “that standard bluegrass thing” with my right strumming hand. So much to appreciate about this 🙏. When you go over it at the end and sing that hot little intro lick, these ears ⚡️ heard a little Garcia run, a spray of notes a la Slipknot, mixed in with the Pantera bluegrass cocktail. Full circle indeed. I’m inspired too, thank you!!

Micheal i don't play at all but i love your breakdowns of some very kool players. The Billy Strings band are all very awesome players and have been together for a long time now. Your love of Bluegrass music is very much appreciated. Keep the videos coming mate. From Adelaide Australia.
I wish Michael would really give us his true feelings on this song.
I think his facial expressions say it all lol
i love your excitement brother... that's why we learned to play and when we see these insane talents popup, it's reignites that fire again. so awesome, idk how i've never heard that song. i love billy strings. he's absolutely nuts flat picking...
Hey Michael! I just recently subscribed to you and I love your channel!
Heath Kish , thank!! After looking at the tab, I have all the rhythms parts right but now I can focus on the riff fill and the lead part
Heath Kish , thanks man. I did start off slow, 75% speed on TH-cam video. But I’ll give it a shot
Flatpicking is crazy hard for me lol
I'm so blessed and glad I found your channel to see your reactions a teacher with your skill react to Billy strings with the enthusiasm and amazement that you do is just mind-boggling
Billy Strings is the TRUTH!!
Hey you did alot better then I'd have guessed. I mean that in the nicest possible way. It's amazing to go through the TH-cam and be able to see videos through the years, from him sitting on the couch with Papa Coffee. It's one of the beautiful tech things of the day for sure. I'm happy to see you do one I've loved for months.
I love this channel, the way you dissect is amazing but I honestly enjoy how much fun you have doing it. It's nice to see in these trying times. Keep it up!
I appreciate that! Thanks brother :)
I haven't been moved like this by music in a long time...and some of the comments moved me to tears as well. Most of us have experienced addiction either personally or in our family and circle of friends. We will be okay and be able to sing to the heavens at a concert soon... Until then take care of yourselves and each other and I'll see you in the crowd at the next Billy show! Thank you Michael for the analysis and heartfelt praise. Not only are you an amazing musician but your passion for music is truly infectious.
Imagine me, about to leave a comment on the Dust In a Baggie video about this when it pops up in my notifications. The Bluegrass gods intervened.
GD that Billy can play. Woooo
Tombstone: "I don't hate it, do it eleven more times."
That's been my favorite quote since I first watched this video. It gets me everytime.
Thank you Michael. Simply Thank you.
I had a feeling this had lots of metal influences to it, I just didn’t have the theory knowledge/vocabulary to articulate why I had that feeling! I swear this series is one of the most insightful things on this site
This guy just explained to me why I like this song so much.
You know, I never really learned guitar. I have short sausage fingers so it was tough and I gave up. Now I'm older and type for a living and have the pain that goes with that. It's too late for me, but I just love watching this. The infectious love of music theory and display of skill is so much fun to watch. I'm so glad I found this channel.
Take a look at Andrés Segovia's fingers, like cocktail wieners lol.
That’s what is so great about Billy Strings. This band brings so many new fans to the bluegrass and is creating a whole new genre within itself.
I love when you take out the acoustic
This is my favorite version of this song 💜
Have you heard of Khruangbin? They have this amazingly global sound that seems to infuse dub, funk, and soul without any lyrics. It's really cool, and their guitarist is a beast. I'm sure many on here would love to see your analysis.
Here's a live video from about a week ago: th-cam.com/video/VAe5SvE62XE/w-d-xo.html
Love me some
Oh man I’d love to see a little khruangbin! Marks guitar playing is why I got into playing
My wife and I used Khraungbin as our cocktail hour music at our wedding. 👌🏼👌🏼
@@Syntaxx1016 This is brilliant

Yes!!! And he just said he was gonna start cutting that grass for his new album. Stuff could get real
THANK YOU for posting this - I would've totally missed this...
When I first heard this tune I had the same reaction. Instantly loved him. Knocked my socks off like nothing has in years.
He’s the SRV of bluegrass
violentjett I’d agree with him, I’ve never seen anyone flatpick like that
I'm a big fan of srv.. That's even better to me ^^
I dont even play at all, soo enjoy watching you videos. And compliments of his
talents as u are also. He his awsome
Have you seen the cover of lonesome fugitive that he and marcus king does??? If not, your in for a treat as you would suspect. Not many people can take something from merle and make it better.
Man I seen that! Killer stuff!! I also loved it when him and Marcus did their rendition of “Summertime “
Facts! You should watch While I'm waiting here. It's ridiculous!!!
Billy Strings is so FN good. Saw him live last year in Petaluma and will never forget it.
"He's doing the Iceman" has now entered my vocabulary
Even though all the technical terms fall on deaf ears with me your videos , specially this one are Joy's to watch
