  • I made a small lidded bowl and scoop for sugar from scrap 2x4. this is one of those projects that you can do in an evening.
I mounted the wood to the lathe using a screw Chuck to start, then turned it around and mounted it in a 4 jaw Chuck to finish it off.
The finish I used was walnut oil and beeswax.
The sugar I filled the bowl with was 50% white sugar, 50% coconut sugar.
It's a pretty sweet little project if I do say so myself.

I totally want 2 of these. One for sugar and one for salt. We even have scrap 2x4 left from the house build. Awesome looking bowl

don't use those heavy gloves around moving machinery. I've had to dig fingers out of gloves for the EMT's to take hospital with the injured employee more times then I want to count.

Thanks for the advice. I make sure to keep my hands behind the tool rest. If I didn't wear gloves, I'd scald my hands with the hot steam and wood coming off the lathe. It's pretty common practice to use gloves on the lathe, but you do have to know when to take them off as well.
