    3-year-old craftsman push mower would not start. After following your instructions, I was blown away when mower started after first pull. Not bad for a 72-year-old woman who mows her own yard.

    Very helpful video. Thank you. Question...how would water get into the fuel tank & float bowl?

    • @smallengineguys
      @smallengineguys  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Usually from your gas can. Ethanol is in all your common fuel. Water is attracted to the ethanol. Ethanol will pull the water out of the air. Best way to avoid this is non ethanol fuel. Usually referred to as rec 90. Ethanol fuel only lasts about 3 weeks in a gallon can. Rec 90 lasts 3 months.

    • @smallengineguys
      @smallengineguys  ปีที่แล้ว

      Under the gas tank on the engine there is a thin metal plate with a spring on it. Its kinda behind the tank but you can get to it. You have to bend it just a little. Its either to the front or back not sure but i think bend it to the front.

    I have the same issue, started right up after following the video (my problem was not water in the fuel but debris from an incredibly dirty air filter) and then I noticed gas leaking from the air filter after about a minute. I removed and remounted the carb assembly three times without any difference. I was very careful to snap everything in place including then pin on the floater and the cover is tight. Any other ideas? I was so happy when the engine roared to life and then felt like I was kicked in the stomach when it started leaking fuel. Thanks

      No, I didn't but I should have because the tank was pretty much empty. I replaced both the carb and spark plug with new. My next step will be removing the gas tank and cleaning it out. It felt like it had pretty good compression but it wouldn't fire even after spraying it with started fluid. My other neighbor had a brand new Craftsman mower that she put out on the tree lawn for the garbage man to pick up. I asked her if I could have it and she said sure, but it don't work. So spray carb cleaner directly in the carburetor. Try to start it. If it fires and shuts back off you need to do the carb again. If not you need to check spark and compression.
