    1. Good tip usually, not always feasible. If you are down players it is often a choice between trying to be safe or to give yourself a chance, and in these cases I think just gambling on the blitz not happening is the way to go. Guarding against quick snap can also be double edged, since having players one step diagonal from the los can be a very good way to make hits harder when quick snap doesn't happen in cases where you are putting strength on the line (it limits how many assists they can get). But yeah, usually do what you said.
    2. This is one of those simplifications aimed at giving people the right idea I think. Or well, it is literally true if the opponent really wants it to be, but you can often make it so they have to roll some risky dice to get it done. Still, only base when you have a good reason to.
    3. Foresight is good yeah.
    4. This took me a very long time to learn.
    5. This is from an objectively best play point of view a good tip, and it is good to be aware that these plays exist. As a newer player though, use caution, complicated plays like this will overload your brain, possibly run your clock down as you think, and you'll miss basic things instead :P.
    6. This is so important, and relevant for so many more players than just the current ball carrier.
    7. People very commonly use a straight TV comparison for foul evaluation. I don't like that. To be fair you didn't do this, but you still used TV in your summary. The actual value of a player is much more situational. As an example, maybe you have a lot of dodge and the opponent only has one tackle, then that target is worth much more than the TV indicates. Also maybe you have a decent bench left and it is late in a drive, getting sent off might cost you almost nothing in practice. Also some teams are more crippled than others when they get down numbers, which should change the risk evaluation (meaning elves should foul more than dwarves, for example).
    8. Yeah, this is a big part of the game.
    9. True, though not if you'd really like to have the player somewhere else. The big advantage of dodging is that you can move to a different spot, which may or may not be relevant in a given situation.
    10. The risk of injury in dodging isn't that high (and it doesn't stack much, you can only fall once in a turn). A dirty player can change the equation though, and yeah, it is a valid choice to not take the risk regardless. I just think it is also a valid choice to do the five dodges into a cage dive.

    About that 2 dice uphill - it depends on what your goal is, if it's to not be based then it's only a better option when you have a team RR you are willing to use and the other guy doesn't have block/wrestle.
    2 dice uphill - chance of rolling a skull; 11/36 ( 30.5% ) with a team re-roll 121/1296 ( 9.34% )
    Which on the face seems a lot better than dodge's chance of turn over 1/6 (33.33%), with re-roll 1/9 ( 11.11% )
    But if the other guy has block or wrestle the chances of failure becomes higher: 16/36 ( 44.44% ), with team re-roll 256/1296 ( 19.75% ) and dodge is looking a lot better
    TLDR: if your piece has dodge 3+ is better than 2D up hill unless your willing to burn a team re-roll, and even then it's very close

    • @nufflesplaybook9473
      @nufflesplaybook9473  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah the advice was specifically for when you have block, and they don’t. All your math looks solid. But we are both saying the same thing :) it’s pretty common scenario as most blitzers (aka those who start with block) are ag 3+.

      Glad you liked it! I love guard and its a powerful skill. Especially on a hard to move target, say stand firm, or high strength. I try and keep my guard guys un marked early on. (Don't put them on the Line on defense thinking it will stop 2 dice blocks vs you. There's so many ways around it it's not worth it) If you keep them free on defense then you can run them into the spot that will mark the most players. You don't want them to get tied up on the wrong side of the field where it doesn't really matter if you win the blocks or not. Also try to always support them. If you don't they have targets on them and you're getting no benefit from the Guard. Worst thing a Guard can do is be by them selves (and on the wrong side of the field). If they are in a bad spot, look to see if you can block/push who is marking them away, then run them over to side you need. They also make great Cage breakers. Blitz with them on a corner, follow up, now your in the thick of it - Bring in as many guys as you can around them and they'll have a hard to pushing anyone away because he has Guard! On Offense they make the best Cage corners. Someone can turn off all the cage assists normally by marking the front of the cage and the back of the cage (only takes 2 guys!) Then the can cage dive in with a lucky dodge and hit the ball carrier. If you have Guard on both corners of the cage (especially on the side closest to the other team) then they can't mark that assist away. Maybe I'll do a video will all of these points!

    9. If the player you're hitting uphill has mighty blow then it might be better to dodge, marginally worse odds for ag3 but at least you don't risk the MB hit when dodging.

      MB only applies when the player with the skill is making the block action. Per page 80 of the core rule book. Even on a both down (if the MB player had block and the blocker didn’t). So it doesn’t apply to rule 9.

    • @svenvannimwegen4936
      @svenvannimwegen4936 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been playing for over 10 years now and I can tell you that trying learn the game with Ska en is tough. If you want to learn the game orcs or humans are better instead of trying those agility teams from the get go. Get some games in with humans (10 or so) then try skaven. The thing is, yes those agile players are good but not invincible when it comes to dodging and running around. Every dodge is a possible turnover and every time a gutter runner is unprotected, it will get any attempt to get removed thrown at it.
      Try humans if you fancy ag teams/ball play and learn the basics of turn sequence. Then when you understand risk, how to utilize key players and how to protect them, try skaven again. Also talk with your opponent ask questions why they do certain things and ask for advice. The game is one the best boardgames ever but the learning curve is steap but it's worth the effort!
      Good luck!

      @@sunnycaljon5319 no I can understand that. But playing with skaven as beginner is asking for trouble. They're awesome once you get more experienced but it's certainly not a good team to start with. And I don't know how helpful your opponents are with giving tips. But always when I'm playing (on fumbbl) and someone tells me that they are new to the game I try to give them tips and go a bit easier on them. But if you've given up I also understand. Starting all over after a game or two is not very enticing. But if you feel like giving it one more try go for orcs as they have decent ball handling with their blitzers and they tend to live much longer lives then rats.

  • @edwardfranklin4467

    • @svenvannimwegen4936
      @svenvannimwegen4936 ปีที่แล้ว

      If that's what they use their blitz you should not worry. They're not trying to prevent you from getting the ball. A good coach will mostly ignore the Los and get into a spot where they can pressure the ball. Just stand your guys up at the Los and make sure the ball is safe (and get at least one guy in scoring range)

    Blocking with Block uphill is a far worse idea then dodging with a 3+! Especially against a big guy!
    If you fail your dodge, you roll Av .
    If he manages to knock you down, not only does he push back and knock down you, he could potentially have skills that modify the AV or injury roll.
    The chance of him kicking your ass is 4 results out of 36, so 12ish percent, but if he does- you might get really hurt.
    If you have a lineman with Block next to a big guy without block, you should stand there. You have him right where you want him, fighting your least valuable player...

    • @Tylerjstratton
      @Tylerjstratton ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Garath! Thanks for watching. Couple things to address here.
      1. I’m using the blood bowl season season (2020) rules.
      2. Mighty blow does not work on defense. Only on their activation. So failing a dodge, and failing a block are the same injury change.
      3. When you’re blocking you never get pushed. You’d only ever fall down where you are or they push away.
      4. A 2 dice against with block is a 31% chance of knocking your self down and 69% chance of pushing them or knocking them down. But a 3+ block has a 33% chance of failing and falling over. So strictly statically speaking 2 dice uphill block with block vs no block is better odds. bloodbowlstrategies.com/en/probabilities/
      5. If you push them you’re controlling where they go and therefor more board control.
      6. This is assuming no rerolls and no other skills involved.
      Hope that helps explain why it’s better! (Although granted only 2% statically)

      Oddly specific about MB working only on the activeturn, but you're correct about MB.
      This was not the case in previous additions.
      It still isn't the best idea to block with 2 dice opponent chooses, simply because rolling a 3+ to dodge away gives you more benefits if you succeed. You can reposition your player better, lend an assist or guard space against opposing models.
      That alone is worth it. And worth the extra risk.

      @@garathminis5108 sounds like you got your self a plan! Works great!
      That being said…dodging away won’t remove the target your dodging from…let alone kill them. Which COULD happen if you block them. :) seems like you got a good grasp on what you want though. Great!

      @@Tylerjstratton
      I played well over 300 matches since 2002 when I started.
      I found that from that exact example (S 3-4 with block vs S 5)...anyway a lower S vs a higher S - let us ask ourselves what kind of a player are we talking about ,if he can dodge on a 3+ and has block?
      He is either a lineman of some kind with a skill upgrade, or a blitzer.
      If you re using a lineman to tie up a big guy...you could block, but what are you getting?
      The chance of that big thing going down is low. Very low. If you push back, which is to be expected- you will probably not follow as that kinda defeats the whole purpose of this idea...so the opponent can reposition that thing where its going to cause trouble.
      On the other hand, using some kind of a blitzer, that perhaps has some other skills - strongly consider that the aim is to reposition that player and keep him alive and on his feet.
      Removing that big opponent would indeed be to our advantage, but most (fighty) games are won by the team that gains the advantage in numbers.
      This is best achieved by hitting the weakest players on the opposite team.
      This makes no difference if you're playing against a team where everyone has the same AV, but most teams don't.
      So that blitzer should be hitting easy to take out targets . That's the way to win the ball, that's the way to score more CAS and in the end score more TD.
      So to conclude, if you have a cheap lineman with block that you don't mind loosing, go for the block perhaps. If you're using anything more valuable, protect that value by running away from that tight spot.
      That block would be the last action of the turn anyway...
