Jane’s dad accidentally said “Jane” instead of “Juliet”, then said “disregard”, thus nullifying the direction he just gave. That was why the planes crashed into each other. So sad.

    • @aaronia8092
      @aaronia8092 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Right - It's all about consequences. Walter might not have been a bad guy deep down, but he chose to get involved in that kind of illegal business, and that put him in a position where he suddenly finds out he prefers to kill someone (Krazy-8, Jane...) so that his involvment with meth does not get discovered. And lie, after lie, after lie, he loses his wife; and lies and deaths finally bring a literal rain of tragedies over his person, his family and his house.
The pink stuffed animal was supposed to mean a death, foreshadowed from ep. 2x1, the death of a kid: the kid who owned the real toy and presumably traveled in the plane, Jane (who had a similar toy painted in her mural, and is someones' kid), and... see how there is a parallell between Jane and baby Holly (Jane's blue dress - Holly getting dressed): Walt has introduced tragedy in his family and has lost his family too. The loss of his kids and wife is a bit like their death for him. The corpses on his driveway are some real people who died because of him, but they also simbolyze Walt's big loss of Skyler and Walt Jr (and the damaged pink bear = Holly).
Finally, Walt does lose a real piece of himself (of his body, in surgery), so that his action in ep. 12 brings all that death and loss for him, his family and the whole ABQ in ep. 13.

The pink bear in this episode is a symbol that all of Walt's actions and bad deeds are finally beginning to come back to him; it is supposed to speak to that idea and directly tie him to Jane since in the mural on Jane's wall when her dad walks in to pick out her dress, the same pink teddy bear is up in the right hand corner of the painting.
Obviously, it is Jane's dad who crashes the plane, too, once again showing how, like a chain reaction, Walt's decisions are impacting people all around like the butterfly effect. Walt is now the cancer himself and his actions are metastasizing to anyone who comes in contact with him and around them.

Anna Gunn is such a great actress. She knows her craft, too. Up until Breaking Bad, she only dove into parts of projects that she knew would have great material. She was in another acclaimed show, Deadwood, and when she got the Pilot script from her agent, she knew right away this show had the potential to be great. Her agent convinced her it was something special and she agreed so she read for the role. Multiple Emmy nominations and wins later, she now has one of the most memorable and enviable roles in the history of television.

My younger brother went from addiction to pain meds which inevitably developed into a heroin addiction. There are only so many times you can hear about them being arrested, going to the hospital with OD's or infected injection sites before you just have to steel yourself to the fact that the next phone call could be the one where they die. Fortunately a long stint in jail sobered him up, and some tough love and rehab has resulted in him being clean for about 2 years now. I hate to admit that I had reached a point where I had just accepted that he would be dead any day.

Breaking Bad has some of the finest acting you’ll ever see in a TV show, along with finest writing. The foreshadowing with the cold opens, the symbolism, and how all these plots tie together throughout this season are insanely brilliant. Plots that don’t seem significant at the time come back and are the most significant parts of the season, and it’s just fantastic. Season 2 was incredible, but the thing that separates BB from others is that it does this better and better EVERY SINGLE EPISODE, EVERY SINGLE SEASON.
I’m having a blast watching you two. This episode was extremely upsetting, and in the dark world of Breaking Bad I won’t promise that it starts to lighten up, but you guys will be glad you embarked on this journey. You guys made it through GoT, I have faith that you’ll have it in you to make it through this. ❤️

  • @aworkinprogress4387

That was such a crazy season finale. I never realized the stark difference of Walt's two lives in this episode. From the overwhelming effects of letting Jane die in his criminal life to the intense positivity of Skyler and Walt Jr. in his civilian life. And you can almost feel Walt's palpable discomfort when his son speaks so highly of him. It shows that he's still capable of feeling guilt. He's knowingly fucked up poor Jesse's life and unknowingly fucked up Jane's father's life. If you couldn't feel sorry for Jesse in this episode you have no heart. He's just so obviously broken.
And now you know what the cold opens were all about. It certainly was shocking huh? Mainly because there's no way you could have seen that coming, unless you paid attention to the episode titles. And that ending was such a perfect metaphor for Walt's life. The two planes collided into each other in disastrous fashion, just like Walt's duel lives, and the debris were raining down around him. It's also perfect that the crash happens right above Walt's head to complete the metaphor and also because he's indirectly responsible for it happening.
Season 2 was so damn good but if you thought this season was crazy just wait, you ain't seen nothing yet.

  • @alexg60
    @alexg60 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

The plane crash at the end of the episode was based on a real mid-air collision that occured in 1986 in California (though that incident was caused by pilot error and not by a traffic controller). The air traffic controller involved in that incident was actually named Water White.

@@coolbreez1214 the writers write themselves into corners all the time, and then write themselves out. That's the brilliance of the show. They talk about that a lot in the behind the scenes stuff, they write moment to moment, trying to follow a chain of cause and effect, which means they often force the characters into impossible situations and have to spend days trying to figure out how to resolve the conflict, and they don't stop until the solution is perfect and satisfying. And all the while they are going back and making sure that everything that happens or did happen continues to echo through the show.

You can tell that her dad was so heartbroken that he had given up and that's why he didn't attack Jesse. The actor did an amazing job in his limited screen time. It's like he had knew for years that this might happen to her if she started up again so he wasn't entirely surprised, and as far as Jesse's role in it, probably overnight he came to terms with it's not entirely Jesse's fault and that Jane might have had feelings for Jesse so after the way he reacted the day before he had calmed down a little. I originally thought he was going to attack him, too, but that's why it's good acting because you can see in his face he's so heartbroken, and he knows it's not all Jesse's fault. You can even hear it in his voice when he's telling the questioner her details.
"Didn't think this show was going to make me cry"...Yeah, as said on an earlier episode, this show isn't superficial and it does require an emotional investment...It's pretty deep, even though it can also just be pure entertainment. It's a combination of genres and balances the lighter moments with the darker ones, like a chemistry.

  • @pearljammies

Notes from the podcast: (this is a long post! But lots of interesting stuff!)
    1. Origin of the teddy bear- they like the idea of circular storytelling (see episode 1, Walt in his underpants). It was an intentional misdirect, as we’d probably think it had to do with the baby, that they wanted to last throughout the whole season.
    2. Shots from inside the pool - one of the grips at one point was in the wrong kind of wetsuit & immediately went into hypothermia (this was in December)
    3. The teddy bear shows up throughout the season. Good eye, Steve! (No pun intended) some spots mentioned:
-2x12 on the motel pool cover
-2x07 on the deck outside the hotel
    -in the Twat Hammer video
-in the artwork on Jane’s wall in 2x13
    4. How did they get the shot of it falling into the pool? A mix of CGI & practical effects - the explosion was CGI; satellite photos used for the images from above the actual house they use for the White residence, & marry that to shooting with a (super expensive, rented) camera that falls from about 500 feet up into the water, then with the splash from a water cannon that was in the pool. actually, because balloons rise, it would’ve been shot from the ground up & the film (note from me: yes, they still shot on film when BB was being made) later reversed. Vince Gilligan wanted to attach the camera to weather balloons! So they tested it in a parking lot & made plans, but also rented a crane that went 300ft high as a backup plan. The second test was actually above the back yard with 5 balloons (and everyone hiding)...it went up about 4 seconds & then got caught in a “breeze” (125 mph winds were reported by the airport) which popped 2 & sent the rest off to the right so fast a car couldn’t even chase it! It was out of sight within 5 minutes!...with the super expensive rented camera attached! So they called the airport & the Air Force base to report it so it didn’t get shot down. In the meantime, they requested the crane (which they ultimately used) for a couple days later...the same day, the camera rental house got an email from a woman 200 miles SE of Albuquerque who said this weather balloon with a camera attached landed in her back yard! The camera wasn’t broken, yet looked sandblasted - but the film was all black? And they were confused... then someone said “well, here’s the problem! The lens cap was left on!!” 😂
    5. They built a fiberglass chest over Jane for Jesse to intensely try to perform CPR - Vince Gilligan hates in entertainment when actors are barely pressing on people while they perform it. Anyway...Kristen Ritter was overcome & in tears over that scene & how real it all felt to her to play that death, and it was intense for everyone on set. The worst for her was the body bag being zipped up over her face.

The airplane crash is such a good metaphor for the show. All season you’re wondering about what darkness is about to come into Walt’s life, but it turns out it was all about Walt’s darkness getting into everyone else’s lives.

jane's death was one of the hardest things to watch for me. it really affected me for like weeks afterwards, and i never get affected like that by anything fictional. there was something about it that felt so real and hurtful, i cant really explain it. still affects me now tbh when i watch it back.

Jessie in the next few episodes broke my heart several times over. I feel so bad for him. I didn’t know about the plane crash. I was beating myself up for days trying to figure out those cold opens. Watching Walt hugging Jessie in that flop house and seeing Donald’s reaction was the worst part of this episode along with the crash. This is one of the many reasons why I’ll never ever touch hard drugs.

I wonder if the 11 people who disliked this video (in contrast to the 11 HUNDRED people who liked it) felt that way solely because they're pissed that they could handle Jesse crying over Jessica Jane...until Nikki started tearing up and then they just lost it. Damn you, Nikki! You get me every time! [Blue hearts and winky kissy face emoji]

FYI Some of the episode names in S2 spells out what the cold openings are about: 737, Down, Over, ABQ.
Walt would have his fingerprints and id in the State Police & FBI databases, because he has access and control of dangerous chemicals. Plus his knowledge of how to use them places him on a lot of radars.

Nothing makes coming home from a day of winter classes better then seeing a new reaction video from you guys! And now we are getting somewhere... Season 3 just gets steadily better and better until the 2nd to last episode "Half Measures" where it became the greatest current show on television in my opinion. Actually the rest of the show gets steadily better from here!

My mom overdosed in a room full of people and the last episode and this episode are some of the hardest episodes of tv for me to consume. I loved my mom so much and it's hard to think that someone could've treated my mom the same way Walt treated Jane. I really loved your reactions regardless and it really made me happy to see you guys show empathy for Jane, alot of people in my life weren't given that.

You’re not alone guys, no one was able to predict the crash at the end! This episode culminated with everything BLOWING up in Walt’s face. It is all of us along with Walt starting to see the real consequences of his decision to “break bad”. It’s definitely a domino effect of everything Walt has done. He really doesn’t even realize what he’s started. Walt’s pink sweater, burned pink teddy bear.

I just want to remind people that Nikki and Steven still read the comments. Talking about the direction of the show or certain characters is spoiler territory, even if you don't spell it out. Let's not do that. Let them discover things in the same we were able to.

Could not wait for this episode!!! Nikki's reaction to Jane's father were legit. And Steven almost had to change his pant when they showed walt's picture in front of the wanted sign... lol.

Nikki, i honestly have to tell you that, i truly believe that you must be a really wonderful mother! That beautiful bond that you have with your husband! You are the friends i would like to have.. You are my company to watch so many series with..And l have to tell you, that i love your reactions and understanding for people with disabilities..My child has a different kind of disability and now i have too.. But you are keeping me company.. Thank you! I don't know if TH-cam is your hobby or your job, but you must know that you are helping people who don't have any friends because they are stuck in a bed, kind of suffering.. Thank you again..

When i first saw this episode and the planes blew up it got me goosebumps and frozen.
it reminded me of 9-11 and as i was grade 3 when that happened and the fact that you were watching it happened live in your tv screens half across the globe, it will scar you for life.
thinking back then, i saw how the world changed forever.
