And his SB has only been above 44 seconds since that season he started doing 44 comfortably when he won gold in Daegu a total of just 3 times of a possible 13 .. and it was the year after he lost to WVN who had to break the world record to beat him. I suspect Quincy will find probably half a second over the next couple years but only if he can find competition consistently. unfortunately imo he’ll be at the whims of a lack of competition. He’s too fast for his own good this young. Unless he were to run in Europe or fully pro unattached all year but I would imagine he stays in the US going the normal HS to collegiate route. Though as mention, James has managed to stay strong despite his rise but Kirani has some freakishly good genes with a solid long build suited for it. Quincy is Christian Coleman’s size. Brooke legit blew my mind though I won’t lie. Yips hardcore .. hard to watch
Hammer is such a volatile event and if you get out on the wrong foot one foul can follow another, but that's a galling result and as hard as it is Brooke will have to find a way to make sure the floor of her performance is absolutely reliable to at least qualify herself for 6 throws no matter what.
Hm not that many. Anyone can fall. Norman has had a rough year and second made sense. Krauser won, Shacarri won, Noah won, Allman won, St Pierre won, Jasmine Moore won, Holloway looked great. Akins was pretty much co-favorite. There was no clear favorite in the women's 400--Brown is a freshman trying to extend a long season, usually there is a regression. Hockey was a co-favorite and nuguse made it anyway
Crouser was debatably an underdog with his injuries, allman only out the quals currently. But the Hj, hammer, discus (lagi) athing mu, and coleman missing out kinda crazy, and lightfoot in the pv too.
A lot of people want the rules to change for US trials but imagine choosing the 3 representatives in events that don’t have clear favorites. Or an event where more than 3 people have a realistic shot at medaling like the men’s 100. They would either screw Kenny over bc he never won a 100m title, or screw Fred over bc he left Nike and had the worse SB prior to the meet.
6:51 Tbh I felt he wasn’t gonna do it. Seemed to run a little too fast in his opening runs. And for Olympics i think he needs a sub 44 which probably won’t happen till next year. He should be proud tho still all time times for his age
Another stunning video from my fellow kiwi 🥝 What's happened to the proud history of the US men's long jump? Gone from world and Olympic champions Mike Powell, Carl Lewis and Dwight Phillips to today where not one US men's jumper has even qualified for the Olympics Also I think it crazy that in 1991 the long standing long jump world record of 23 years by Bob Beamon was broken with 8.95m and yet 33 years later no one has broken 9m (or even come close) Yet to put this in perspective, the world record in the men's marathon in 1991 was 2:06 and they have gone sub 2 (unofficially) and 2:00 legally! No way anyone would have predicted that back then So much on though, what's your thoughts on the strict Olympics selection policy? Crazy that defending Olympic champ Athing Mu in the 800m and world lead Brooke Anderson in the hammer throw won't even be on the start line! Any other country would be thrilled to have them on their team! Gotta luv Merica
Idk the oly standard for the hammer, but if the other 3 gals dont get the distance im pretty sure anderson goes anyway. And olympic title defenses should always be a must, purely for the storyline as long as the athlete has met the standard, which she did with that 1:58. Also its because none of the long jumpers are sprinters anymore. These sprint guys should be doubling if they can i rekon!
@@JumpmanTF Yeah I totally agree! They have a wildcard for defending champions at worlds, so it makes sense to do the same at Olympics! There were more 5 women's hammer throwers that met the qualifying standard including Brooke so she is not going sadly. Interesting take on the men's long jumpers not working on speed. You wonder why if that worked in the past, that they don't do that? Noah Lyles is on fire! Wonder what you think of his chances of winning the double at Paris?
The US trials are absurdly brutal. You don't take the world #1 because she has an off day? Maybe she was sick? Or what about the athlete who was tripped? In most countries, at least one of the places it at the discretion of the selectors, so the best medal prospects can focus on peaking for the games.
Every time someone talks to me about track and field, I share this channel with them. Keep it up and you will be the biggest track and field channel there is. You might need to put out even shorter content to be on the pace. 👌👌💪💪
No such thing as an "upset". Every athlete comes into the games to compete. The ones who are prepared the best win. Nothing is given and no one knows what the Almighty has in store. Stop the foolishness. Congratulations to all the fine people who dare to become great. You are all winners. Everyone doesn't get to experience this moment, relish it and remember it forever.
@@jasonwood8023 Thanks💐. I’d have loved to see her in the 100. Her only international medals have come in the relays. The 200m, however is her favored event.
What event didnt upset? Only womens discus? Idk but at every event there is someone who was a favorite to make it and then flopped. That is what trials do to those athletes i guess. Btw awesome video as always Mr. Jumpman
I've been watching Dendy all year, I like hime, but he's been acting like he's an elite jumber. He's not. He's struggling to reach 7.90. The Europeans are regularly jumping 8.20-8.50.
Some of these competitors are coming to the trials like it's their birth right to be on the team, well guess what, maybe getting few races or attempts under your belt might help you with your quest.
As a Brit, I find the American system stupid. British Athletics have done some stupid stuff when it comes to sections the past few years but atleast they give World champions/medalists a free pass not to have to compete at the trials and still get a spot. Like for this year, Hughes who is injuried isnt running at the trials but is given a spot due to him getting Bronze at the Worlds last year, or Hudson-Smith who has chosen to run the 200m at the trials due to his 2nd at the Worlds in the 400m he gets an automatic place, then Kerr technically doesnt need to run in the 1500m due to him winning the Worlds. It makes more sense to me to allow the top athletes a free entry than force them to run and lose out on the big names not making the team.
Not every country has the first three in the trial system. With arguably good reason; at the 1984 GB trial Seb Coe was not fit and did not take part - under the USA system would not have run - but was picked and won the Gold.
The only event that isn't competitive this year in the US is the men's 800 m. Sure, its not as bad as 2022, but no one from team USA is making the final.
I don't understand Hendricks' position. If you don't like Team USA, why are you competing in the trials? You're hogging up a spot on a team when other athletes want to go to Paris. I don't know the full context of his dispute so I won't be harsh about him, but let the others have a chance to make the team if you don't want to go.
Context: Sam Kendricks made the 2021 Tokyo Olympic team. However, he was unvaccinated, and didn't practice social distancing or proper masking practices. He tested positive for COVID before the pole vault competition and was put into quarantine by Japanese officials and couldn't compete. Then in 2022 (according to Kendricks) he wasn't allowed to compete in world for once again not being vaccinated. However, Kendricks agent says it was because he was still healing from a surgery. Through all of this he blames Team USA for him being put in quarantine and not being allowed to compete say things like, "I’m from the United States of America. I don’t do anything I don’t want to. I live free.”
OK - I have a couple of questions, guys (incl. Jumpman!). I have been reading the comments and everyone seems to know their stuff. I love watching he Olympics, but before TH-cam I could never really do any 'research'. Question 1 - Does anyone else besides me think that Olympic Trials are unfair and unnecessary? The athletes work their asses off through all of the yearly meets and the indoor/outdoor World Championships, so how could the reigning Champs have to prove themselves again and again??!! I'm not sure they do that in Figure Skating (which I do follow), or Gymnastics or any other sport for that matter. Isn't that ripe for making the track and field athletes become angry and bitter and just rebel against these protocols eventually? Do they do it like this in case some talented kid walks in off the street and blows the competition away? My heart hurts for these athletes in the type of fast sports where ANYONE could actually place! Question 2 - Shouldn't they have rules about minimum personal space when athletes are running in a clump and someone gets tripped and falls? What if someone is taller and has longer legs and has a different gait? I apologize if I seem naive, but I would really like some dialogue here. Thanks! Happy Olympics.
It is a bit unfair. But 4 years is a long time. The defending world champion is invited each year to defend their title, but the olympic champion must requalify. In most countries that's just reaching the standard, but the US have their own selection protocols ontop of that (top 3 at the trials go if they have the qualifying mark). And in terms of the distances, you cant intentionally knock people, but if people collide and fall, its reviewed on a per case basis. If its an accident, most of thr time they let it ride. If its anybit suspicious, dq's can happen and the person gets an auto spot in the final.
If you don't make it to the top 3, you can't go to the olympics? Am I getting that right? That includes those who've dominating for years but just choked on trials day?
@@JumpmanTF That feels incredibly unfair. What if you have a bad day? What if you are sick? Makes no sense. The best athlete in each discipline over the past year should get a pass even if they fail at the trials.
In track and other sports you cannot claim the "level" of your former "best" or your former "level". You are at the level you are at now due to the training and competing you are doing. She wasn't at a great level , but it was interesting to see her start with the 2:01 and then make it to 1:58.8. This is like Tyson fighting Buster Douglas after partying instead of training and even having a party the night before and drinking and everything else he isn't supposed to do.
Athing Mu was not an upset. In fact, it could never be conclusively determined either way whether it was sabotage. With no provisions for accounting for acts of God, accidents, animals, or anything else out of the participant's control, the U.S.A. will not necessarily be sending their best. They will just be sending the fortunate. Sure, Mu could have run farther on an outside lane, but if that is the only strategy available to hopefully avoid collisions (which could be intentional, keep in mind), you might as well have everyone run in their lane for all 2 laps. Then, lane interference would have considerations which common lane running does not.
I agree that if you’re an Olympic champion from the previous Olympic, you automatically earn a spot in the upcoming Olympics. It’s equivalent of a boxing champion defending their title.
Yep, you don't understand!!! Peacock had shown US Olympic trials and fields ... Olympics trials are FIERCE and COMPETITIVE, and whoever met first, second, and third places only mattered regardless of what their score for now; if Kendrick decided not 🚭🚫 to go then there is his replacement: there is the 4th and 5th places so then way did he compete?!! He could have stayed home instead for that foolish comment: there is always someone to take your place: foolish comment, and he was not 🚭🚫 obligated to compete... usually, an athletes have to meet the requirements and the requisite to be invited and involved for Worlds and the Olympics, so therefore, it can be traumatic if under pressure for yourself... It's 90% mentally,, emotionally, then physically as an athlete... I usually expect the unexpected and there would be the agony of defeat.. but that's a another lesson learned to come out better for Coleman, Mu, Collins, and others.. but thanks for sharing though!!!!
There’s a lot of “ unsportsmanlike conduct”lots of shoving in the big heats. Maybe there should be smaller heats in the mid/long distance because it could result in a career ending injury and some people just play dirty and don’t care. There’s too much riding on making the Olympics because being PRO T&F pays so little gets such little support in the off years.
5.92 is actually crazy in the pole vault! Mondos dozens of 6+ jumps doesn’t make it seem like that but most meets tend to go to like high 5.7 low 5.8 so 5.92 is bonkers!
Love the channel but "Holy crap Michael Norman is back" and not even mentioning Quincy Hall in the 400 after he stomped him by more than .2? Getting pounced in a championship is not exactly "holy crap he's back behavior in my eyes
Middle and long distance coaches need to coach their athletes to get up immediately after a fall like Mo Farrah did at the Rio Olympics. I'm not sayin Mu would have qualified but she could have had a chance if she rolled over and sprang into her stride rather than slowly sitting up then standing up while facing the wrong direction before continuing to run. The Olympic trials only come once every 4 years and you need to be prepared to handle any unfortunate situation your find yourself in. Hopefully they select Mu for the relay pool so she can still go to Paris. Also is no one going to talk about Quincy Wilson's highschool having the best kits of any Club/College/Pro/ National team, that black panther themed suit from the semis was straight fire 🔥🔥🔥
Quincy designed that suit with the sportswear company. Bullis isn't really a high school. They are a private prep school that focuses on college students and pre-professional athletes. You'll find no remedial English courses or the like at that school. Personally, I'd rather they pick one of the top 6 finishers in the 400m who didn't fall down. Imagine being that 6th person who competed your best, maybe set a PR, and you are bumped just because a name athlete didn't have a good race. That's against the spirit of sport.
U are very misleading on this video as u guys always are IM GLAD I KEEP UP ON MY OWN WITH ALL SPORTS BECAUSE U GUYS ARE RUMERED FIRE,D & MISLEADING ON YOUR TITLES🤔🥵

Though as mention, James has managed to stay strong despite his rise but Kirani has some freakishly good genes with a solid long build suited for it. Quincy is Christian Coleman’s size.
Brooke legit blew my mind though I won’t lie. Yips hardcore .. hard to watch
Can’t believe I didn’t find this channel sooner
Hammer is such a volatile event and if you get out on the wrong foot one foul can follow another, but that's a galling result and as hard as it is Brooke will have to find a way to make sure the floor of her performance is absolutely reliable to at least qualify herself for 6 throws no matter what.
Athing Mu was tripped and would have definitely got USA a medal. Idk if the other girls that “won” have it in them
Thanks, much appreciated
This channel is Great for the sport and really enteraining. Keep up the good work🎉🎉🎉🎉
Track boutta go crazy with the netflix series too.
MU was not a upset. This was her first race all season. Obvious she has been hurt.
amazing video!
Ping Pong OST in the background caught me by surprise
Also guys named Quincy are a problem. First Quincy Watts not Hall and Wilson.
6:51 Tbh I felt he wasn’t gonna do it. Seemed to run a little too fast in his opening runs. And for Olympics i think he needs a sub 44 which probably won’t happen till next year. He should be proud tho still all time times for his age
Question, where can you watch these trials?
If ur american, somewhere. Me myself, im doomed to replays.
@@JumpmanTF oh okay 👍
Another stunning video from my fellow kiwi 🥝
What's happened to the proud history of the US men's long jump? Gone from world and Olympic champions Mike Powell, Carl Lewis and Dwight Phillips to today where not one US men's jumper has even qualified for the Olympics
Also I think it crazy that in 1991 the long standing long jump world record of 23 years by Bob Beamon was broken with 8.95m and yet 33 years later no one has broken 9m (or even come close) Yet to put this in perspective, the world record in the men's marathon in 1991 was 2:06 and they have gone sub 2 (unofficially) and 2:00 legally! No way anyone would have predicted that back then
So much on though, what's your thoughts on the strict Olympics selection policy?
Wonder what you think of his chances of winning the double at Paris?
i literally dropped to my knees in despair when athing mu fell
The US trials are absurdly brutal. You don't take the world #1 because she has an off day? Maybe she was sick? Or what about the athlete who was tripped? In most countries, at least one of the places it at the discretion of the selectors, so the best medal prospects can focus on peaking for the games.
Every time someone talks to me about track and field, I share this channel with them. Keep it up and you will be the biggest track and field channel there is. You might need to put out even shorter content to be on the pace. 👌👌💪💪
Remember when Total Running Productions would prop up Matt Boling in every second video it made? Well Matt finished second last in the 400m.
To qualify your arhletes that way is crazy.
Where did Abbey Steiner place in the 100m? 🤔🤔🤔🤔
She made the Semi but pulled out. She knew she didn't stand a chance and I'm guessing saving energy for the 200.
@@jasonwood8023 Thanks💐. I’d have loved to see her in the 100. Her only international medals have come in the relays. The 200m, however is her favored event.
4:11 He gonna run 19.35 in finals
19.18 or bust
What event didnt upset? Only womens discus? Idk but at every event there is someone who was a favorite to make it and then flopped. That is what trials do to those athletes i guess.
Btw awesome video as always Mr. Jumpman
Thank you Barack! They write themselves haha
@@JumpmanTFi maybe need to change my username haha
Why was heat 3 the only legal one?
Too much wind during the others.
Well said
As a Brit, I find the American system stupid.
Only a guy, like Kendricks, who has never won an Olympics, would say the Olympics aren't important. It's because he has no chance of winning.
Norman is back 😂 seriously, the guy choked again and with 5m more to go he is out..😂😂
💔 for Mu.
Matt Bolling has hit such a long plateau. Hope he gets new juice somehow somewhere
He needs to hop on gear💉
COACH IS THE MU KILLER HE NO NOTHING ABOUT MIDDLE DISTANCE
I’m mad that we arent (to my knowledge) able to watch the men’s high jump

TRACK AND FIELD MR BEAST!!!
Rare ant comment. Bouta make my own chocolates too.
Bro 😮its shocking
Bathing Mu was pushed from behind by the woman in blue and that's why she fell
If you don't make it to the top 3, you can't go to the olympics? Am I getting that right? That includes those who've dominating for years but just choked on trials day?
Pretty much yep!
@@JumpmanTF That feels incredibly unfair. What if you have a bad day? What if you are sick? Makes no sense. The best athlete in each discipline over the past year should get a pass even if they fail at the trials.
What happened to Athing Mu was not an upset, as the title and thumbnail would suggest. Nobody beat her.
Would love to see Wilson and Boling run in the mixed 4x400m together.
I agree
Athing mu has 0 tactical awarness she can just front run
Or push athletes like hodgkinson into lane 4 when it get’s close ( oregon final 2022)
To have tactical awareness, you have to actually run races
What sucks is the favorites have a much better chance to win at the Olympics. It is not good for us.
Brock Lesnars daughter Mya competes in the US Olympic Trials shot put 29/30th
In track and other sports you cannot claim the "level" of your former "best" or your former "level". You are at the level you are at now due to the training and competing you are doing. She wasn't at a great level , but it was interesting to see her start with the 2:01 and then make it to 1:58.8. This is like Tyson fighting Buster Douglas after partying instead of training and even having a party the night before and drinking and everything else he isn't supposed to do.
She is a front runbner and that is how she should have run. Get away from the shit and control the race....
I think steroids are the actual steroid not the meet but I digress
I agree that if you’re an Olympic champion from the previous Olympic, you automatically earn a spot in the upcoming Olympics. It’s equivalent of a boxing champion defending their title.
Absolutely not, a lot can change in four years. Her past season wasn’t that impressive either.
St Pierre won that race by a nipple... literally.
Love the channel but
"Holy crap Michael Norman is back" and not even mentioning Quincy Hall in the 400 after he stomped him by more than .2?
@@joelwillems4081 Because of the addition of the mixed 4x400m the relay pool is now 8 athletes instead of the regular 6 from previous champs

An accident, not an upset. She could not be tested.
you americans sure like to disrespect field events (meaning nbc, not uploader)
It doesn't work for their quick highlight reels of a camera once and it's over. They also usually cut from field event coverage to another race.
To see field events, you have to get past the pay wall of peacock
I was there at the field, nearby her friends and family, and it was devastating to see her fall and hear her supporters behind me. She really is an amazing runner
money talks. kendricks will be in paris to pickup a bonus for his 2nd or 3rd place finish.
That's too bad. I'm not a fan of Wilson. I'm not a fan of anyone who thinks they need botox.
Wonder what drugs they are taking
No- why did she just lie on the ground bawling. She should have got up and at least had a go like any other determined athlete would have done! She obviously has not done enough training conditioning!
