I always think this when I see top racers running, they look like they're out for a stroll! Since Ben said he was at 90% I imagine he was pushing damn hard, just not into the "actively dying" stage, which would be me at almost 2 minutes slower pace
I'm a slow overweight runner and my friend paced me for a sub 30 minute 5k. Never would have imagined doing it by myself. Was a great feeling hitting sub 30 and beating my PR by 4 minutes.
It's so great to shed those minutes of the pb.. I did a 10 k race last Sunday where I smashed my 6 year old PB of 52:30 by nearly two minutes.. people who don't run will never understand what 2 minutes mean
Knocking 20 secs off a 5K PB is an impressive effort for someone at that level so well done Nina and great pacing Ben. Always enjoy running in Battersea Park.
Great pacing. I am an offcial race pacer for 22 years, but nothing can beat a quality personal pace with someone walking off with a grand new PB. Well done.
Seeing a pro athlete doing 5k just exactly like I did my 5k in terms of effort management (not pace, ofc), especially around the 3rd-4th k, those huge exhale and groans, and the last 500m struggle, reminds me about a quote "you get faster, but it doesn't get easier"
I run 5K once a day and will do it for a year😅😊 January 1st is one month done, 11 to go…😹😹 And it's like you say, it's going a little faster BUT NOT easier 🪿
Love the narration over the run! Made for a way more engaging watch. Was great to hear your thoughts and the pain throughout also😣. Please do more of this! Class running! 👏🏃🏻♂️🏃🏻♀️
Loved this video Ben - huge congrats Nina! I remember vividly Nina catching me in my first marathon in Seville, around 16 miles in her encouraging me to keep pushing like you were cheering her on today, what a legend
Thanks Phily, she’s a true champ and someone I’ve learnt a hell of a lot from since we met last March. Was nice to be able to help her out but to be honest don’t think either of us expected her to come away with a 24 second pb, that was the cherry on top 😂
I can never watch these videos without getting all excited and teary eyed! Thanks a lot, this time I'm at work trying to not let my coworkers so me tearing up! I'm a 52 year old male and on June 02/24 I ran my third consecutive Honda Waterfront Half Marathon in Barrie Ontario Canada with a PB of 1h:38s. That was the most amazing I have ever felt and an achievement I am aiming to better. For those non runners who say they don't get it.... We could help you on that if you're willing!
It's such a pleasure to watch high-level runners, especially with side-by-side ride-along footage. It really conveys the speed and the efficiency of movement. Well done to you both - and to your camera person!
The most inspiring thing I have ever seen. The friendship, the pain, the joy the power! After watching this I went out and slashed my own PB in the track next to my house (true). Thank you so much!
I love that you can actually hear the effort she gave Last 5-6 min her puls must have been maxed out.. You never get that experience when you watch it in the television.
This is one of the real problems with the way the sport is presented by the mass media. It misses some of the rawness. For example, the NFL is so much richer for the sounds of players clashing, etc.
Congrats to Nina in getting the win and a personal best! Her form is absolutely perfect and her pace at the beginning seemed relaxed but that would be an all out sprint for most amateur runners and we can't run at max pace for 5K!!! Well done ! ! ! Love to see more of her ! ! !
Amazing! And SO do appreciate the in-race voiceover! Teaches us a lot about the mind and strategies of an elite runner, and it heightens the suspense and tension of the footage! Would totally dig more 'em! Thanks for giving us a peek into your racing/pacing brain!
A great video and what a nice things to be able to do. Running is about supporting each other to achieve our goals rather than always competing. For Nina to get a 20s pb is really incredible! Well done both!
Love the video Ben, more voice over work please mate! Nick does alot of this kind of content and give a really good insight as to what your thinking whilst racing (even though you’re pacing it comes across in a similar way). Good Luck for Copenhagen!
Thanks for the great video, Ben! So nice to see Nina breaking PB and earning ranking points! We used to run a lot together with Nina years ago, she's such a lovely running pal (the best) and a special person and friend :)
I'd never normally comment on TH-cam, but felt compelled here as I was astounded how well all of this came together! Loved the voiceover and extended footage during the race, really cool and to my knowledge, unparalleled insight into the experience of a professional runner chasing a PB. Keep up the hard work Ben! 🎉
Ben - You are so humble and one of the most 'chilled' people I sub to. I love your content and I am excited to see what you can achieve in 2024 and beyond! Well done and thank you sir.
Enjoyed this, great pacing too. She was a beast, you could hear her working hard in the first Kilometre. She gritted her teeth until the finish. Her ability to ask if her opponents were in her heels, showed her mental clarity and experience. Was fantastic to watch. Well done sir and to the young lady, looking forward to watching her in Paris.
Another fantastic video Ben, You made a huge difference to her race and you can see how elated she was to have surpassed even her A goal by such a huge margin. Well done Ben.
amazing video, I love the no music to hear the effort. So incredible to push that hard, she is a true professional and speaks very well. Loved your gesture ben of letting her cross the line. That is so pro.
Way to go Nina! I just wanted to say how inspiring your journey has been to us all. You really have to admire someone who follows their dreams and encourages so many others to do the same. It's always a good day when you get a new Ben is Running notification! Thank you as always
This was a great video Ben. Not only did it get me hungry to race, but having you narrate and pace was very interesting. On top of that Nina seems awesome and it was so fun to be able to celebrate her and her achievement! «Ben is pacing» should be a recurring series!
What a wonderfully wholesome video. I used to run club level XC, track and road - they were great times, everybody was so encouraging of others. This took me back to those days. Thank you.
I love your channel Ben, I am a big guy and spend my parkruns at 37 minutes, but it is lovely to watch you run so well. Great pacer, Nina pushed and was very grateful. Lovely video
Incredible. My PB is around 4:15/km, and I was absolutely dying. It's inspiring to see someone moving a minute per km faster while looking and sounding a hell of a lot better than I did. That's awesome physical and mental strength. This makes me want to get out and run.
Took advantage of the route, the conditions and smallish field. Great job pacing, stayed in touch and constant feedback. Nina will want you on all her runs.
This video almost got me in tears🥺..such a great athlete and most of all an amazing woman❤️. All the best to Nina on her goals 🙏🏻.( missed her voice ☺️)

I'm always impressed how fast the female pros recover their breath after a race. In the post race chat you were still catching breath, but Nina looked kind of relaxed already. Very impressive and knocking 20sec of a 5k time really impressive for an average runner, but doing it on a professional level huge respect.
Never seen any of your content before but obviously this is a bit of a viral video to pop up randomly on my feed but I watched the whole thing! Think this video highlights how powerful a good storyline can be, super emotional (as in uplifting) and you feel that through the whole video. Same as all the other comments love the voiceover and you can just hear your natural passion for running in the commentary! Super inspiring content! I’m definitely subscribing for more videos!
Great job for both of you. As an amateur runner, i understand how pacing is critical for any distance. Ben you did a great job and making the time for pacing duty says a lot about you. Huge support for your marathon coming up.
so quick! I'm sat here getting envious as I injured myself on my marathon other week, now I'm unable to run....but I feel I'm not too far off now - maybe a cheeky parkrun easy easy pace next week...don't want to push it. Listening to the Pod you with your injury and now callum with his has definitely made me re evaluate running through injuries and actually taking the time to heal and be good by doing hop tests etc has really been helpful and I'll come back stronger - hopefully hit a 5k summer race series local to me Jun/July and go sub 19.
this was great. opening scene was like are zombie flick, "are they coming for me?", and a smashed PB at the end. Helping others achieve goals can be just as fulfilling as getting them yourself! Great job to Nina and good luck towards her continued goals. :)

Interesting how Nina's breathing was already stretched at 2k. The mental and physical strength to keep going is immense. Super impressive.
Yeah just goes to show how hard she’s prepared to push, found that very inspiring
For her at the 2k mark it's 'just' 9 more minutes of torture!
