  • Todays Famous Grave is Mike Reid, former Eastender star and comedian.
    Michael Reid (19 January 1940 - 29 July 2007) was an English comedian, actor, author and occasional television presenter.
    He played the role of Frank Butcher in the soap opera EastEnders and hosted the children's game show Runaround. He was known for his gravelly voice and strong London accent.

    Met Mike once after he did a gig at Butlins. He was very friendly and had plenty of time for his fans. RIP Mike.

      Lucky you, I once went to see roger moore in an evening with, he came out on stage he just stood there, he never even said hello. He was such a disappointment they say never meet your heroes I was sorry I did.

      @@philipbooth7779 - That’s a shame…..I think some would be equally disappointed when meeting favourite celebs or as you say heroes as in reality that aren’t what they seem. Meeting Sir Ranulph Fiennes after he gave a presentation was a highlight for me……what a geezer !

      I watched roger moore since I was at school from the Saint through to the bond film's, he talked to someone on stage some one who worked with him. I bought two books in the foyer before I went in. I gave them to the local charity shop I had no interest reading them and anytime one of his films come on I turn over I can't stand him these days.

      My mum's best friend had a full medical, she was 75, doctor said she was in great health, died of a heart attack two weeks later

    Was on holiday in Spain with family, I was 18 or 19 and we were in a bar having a few drinks and I could hear this gravelly voice coming from the bar next door. Mike was doing an impromptu stand up and we joined. It was hilarious and he nicked my fags. Brilliant guy!

    Something eerie about locating a celebrity's gravestone tucked away in some unknown corner, yet so touching. It's a great way for many ordinary folk to pay their respects to the legend that was Mike Reid. Thank you.

    My friend met him at an opening of something or other. She went up to Mike and said " Mike, my hero" and he said, "No, my darlin, you are my hero". Can I just say, you are good looking guy

    He was a lovely man. His grandson went to school with my son. And Mike Reid would go to local event at his grandson school and help raising money for the school charity. He would chat to the all parent and children. Lovely lovely bloke.

    When I was a compère back in the 70’s, Mike Reid would often be the celebrity for the evening, it was my job to see to all his needs, drinks, whatever he wanted, but mainly because I rolled my own cigarettes, he’s say give us a roll up son, about 5 times on each occasion he appeared at the club, a great friendly fella sadly gone too soon. RIP Mike 🙏🙏

    For some reason I found this to be quite touching…..He was such a loud vibrant character but sadly no longer with us…..goes to show life goes by in a blink of an eye. Love ur presenting style keep it up 👍

    I remember Mike Reid in ‘The Comedians’ in the 1970’s. I grew up in London’s East End and Mike was a ‘real geezer’ on the telly. He was so funny in the way he told his jokes as there were people around who spoke just like him. Fond memories…….

    My aunt's brother managed the palladium years ago..he would bring a few famous people to our village .Never forget the shop owners face when he took Paul Melba to meet her .Met mike nice bloke ..sad day when he left us .. who could for get the spinning bow tie... Days when jokes were funny👌

    I met Mike Reid outside his accounts office in Southern Spain. I was too much a fan so I just give him a nod. He nodded back. Sadly he died a few weeks later.

    Thank you for these videos, Some but not all of my friends think I'm morbid because I like graveyards, Some people are scared, but I'm not when I go to my local cemetery to visit my gran and aunties soon as I enter I'm completely relaxed and feel it very peaceful.

    Despite the knocks it gets, there are some stunning places in Essex. Especially North Essex. And some of the churches and church yards are beautiful.
    I never knew Mike Reid was also a stuntman. Versatile man then.

    He told a joke doing standup years ago that literally name me cry with laughter.
    I listen to his full gigs regularly. His memory for jokes was incredible.
    He was great in Snatch to. One of my favorite films. Missed by so many.

    Growing up Mike was a friend of my dad's. I met him a few times as a kid, and liked him instantly, lets face it everybody did! He just had a way about him. A proper old school gent but with an edge and a twinkle in his eye. Thanks for paying homage to him as he deserves to be remembered. Big respect to you my man. 🧡

    Mike Reid had two heart attacks two weeks before his death,before that a dr in Marbella give him a clean bit bit of health then the heart attacks struck two weeks later he died bless him. He was a heavy smoker maybe that caused the heart attacks or he’d still be here bless him. A lesson to smokers,quit while u can before it’s to late

    Although I stopped watching the soaps years ago, I loved him as Frank Butcher and that spinning bow tie is a classic scene, still makes me laugh. Love the tshirt, was only thinking of that film yesterday. My little girl was listening to a different rendition of The Wheels On The Bus and I swear to God it sounded exactly like that shopping centre music that's played in that film 😳 🤣 abit of a random story there for you, sorry 🤣🤣

    Brilliant 👍,Mike was my favourite character on EE by a country mile,he was a legend,and his character was so believable,after he was written out,I pretty much stopped watching it,plus he was such a funny man,I remember getting sky tv back in the late 90's and around this time he also did a golf show,Mike Reid under-par (I think) and his genuine warmth, personality and humility shone through,you could just tell he was a lovely guy.Good video 👍👍

    I remember this one of Mike's: "So I goes rarned to me mum and dad's house, walked in and says to me dad ' Cor, your ceilings are a bit high aint they dad?' So me dad says "Yeah, yer mum wanted 2 rooms knocking into one!" Very funny man!

    I remember my grandma loving EastEnders - when BBC TV was available in Belgium, I also remember an interview he had with Ester Randsen being very emotional about the acting profession, such an honest actor...

    Aww how excited am I? My parents knew him for years the drunk in the same pub it was in north London, called the standard and my dad even gave him a lift home once
