  • This is a review of the $30 mouthpiece from Yibuy. I may get this mouthpiece plated in the future but until then, I won't play on it anymore.

Just a Thought! You could take the mouthpiece by a jewelry shop or a coin dealer and have them test the mouthpiece to determine the material it is made of.

I got this mouthpiece a few days ago, and I really like it, although I'm a beginner sax player and my experience is quite limited.
But I've chemically tested its coating and it is, indeed, silver.
UPD: I'm updating my comment two months later, since then I've ordered two more mouthpieces like this and they're really inconsistent in quality. Both of them are going back, but the first one stays with me. I've polished the table and the rails a little to make it seal better.
None of them had this stain thing, though.
I also got a $20 Yibuy tenor 9 in rose gold, and it's quite nice. The plating doesn't appear to react with any alcali or acid I could find in my household. It might really be gold haha.

If it is indeed silver, that would kind of explain the dark stain; silver tarnishes like that.

  • @3267david

I bought 3 of these in different sizes for tenor and alto. "Noxon Metal Polish" takes the black tarnish right off. The ligature is staining the metal.

  • @HenryJonesVictor
    @HenryJonesVictor 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

That looks like silver tarnish near and around the bite plate (not the ligature stain). My Yanagisawa got shipped with similar tarnish in a few spots due to an overlook by the retailer. At least silver is safe to put in your mouth lmao

Purchased the #6 of this same MP with a 'gold' colored finish and it is the best Ive ever used (50+ years).
I had facial paralysis and spent weeks getting my embouchere back.
All I did was polish the MP and with no other adjustments it is my all time favorite.
For the price of a ligature I have a MP that suits my needs better than some Ive spent $300+ for without lig. Very pleased..
I am using the D'Addario VENN polymer fiber reeds. Really has changed my game and saved lots of $$$$$ ...

Just got this mouthpiece per your recommendation/review. It’s amazing for the price!
Using a 1 1/2 reed on it. It definitely has a very bright upper resister. Bright in general, with this reed. I’ll try something harder soon.
They might have learned from their mistake and now shipped it with the ligature over the plastic; no black stain.
And it’s a beautiful looking mpiece too. My first metal mp.

I have the same piece. I used white vinegar with baking soda to remove the stain. The ligature is useless because it keeps stretching. I think it is leather. However it is a great player as you demonstrated. I use it with electric groups in small venues where I play with no microphone because it is a brighter sound. I have the other 2 mouthpieces you also have, a 7 and and a 9.
These numbers are actually closer to a 5 and a 7. The silver is also smaller than a 9, maybe a 7 ,using Link measurements.
The low end bias you mentioned is more pronounced on the gold pieces. I used some 600 grit wet/dry on a plate of glass and
flattened the tables and that helped very much. The metal ligatures that came with the gold pieces also stretch. But they sound good and play good.

Idk man, looked pretty scary. There’s a lot of cheap guitars getting shipped from over there that sometimes are pretty good, but seem to have some kind of gunk on them. I have a Squire Limited Edition Tele that was so good after cleaning and setup that it was a worthy addition to my small collection of playable electrics, but it cost me as much in labor as the $180 I paid for it. Luckily I knew how to take care of it myself. Idk how they could make something so good and inexpensive, and ship it so dirty. It’s like giving you the finger for trying to be frugal. We are frugal so that we maximize our purchasing power. There are so many items to buy and not enough money to go around.

I'm very scared of metal mouth piece. I was a young man in highschool in the 1970s I bought a Burke Lawson metal Mouth piece top-of-the-line because all the older kids was using them on their saxophone. I paid some good money for that mouthpiece back then. Man it sounded good. Till I notice I kept getting a sore throat. So I told my grandmother what was happening to me. She told me a story I will never forget about a young man she grew up with who had play trumpet he blew the trumpet with a brass mouthpiece he was all the time very sick he went to the doctor the doctor told him the brass was poisoning his system. The doctor told him he needed to change it to a solid gold mouth piece. He got well after that. I really loved my Burg Lawson mouth piece I was so sick that the doctor wanted to take my tonsils out. it had a sound that could cut through steel lol
I end up giving it away I didn't even ask anybody money for it . Since then I've never suffered with my tonsil ever again. I found out the mouth piece only had a silver Coating the core of the mouthpiece is made out of brass which leech through the silver Coating. Brass is poisonous to our body's. Did y'all ever hear of brass knuckles. Lol
