Great to hear your impressions of different pieces as its hard to know what you are looking for without trying them yourself. Everybody's different and has different needs out of their mouthpieces. Hey sirvalorsax Why do Vandoren Blue Box have a "humid" feel to me? I feel like some reeds are too dry and the Blue Box to me is always too wet sounding.......
@@Sirvalorsax Well, The blue boxes seem to have a wet sound to them no matter what mouthpiece. However I have never matched a Blue box reed up to my NEW metal v16 T7. I wanted a T6 like you but it turned out I went with a t7. The t7 is fine to play on it's not overly open in my world. I have an otto link vintage reissue HR tone edge as well. This is a .090. I really don't have an idea yet where I like to have my tip openings. The Vandoren metal rocks (small). It's like a Cadillac.
wow! that's a lot of pieces! I've only played a few over the years: a Brilhardt Level Air, Dukoff & a modified Link (w/baffle) which I used exclusively for 35 years! I recently got a D'Addario DM7. In high school I had a Selmer S-80 C** (they were new then). These were all on Tenor btw.
Good choices! I use the Level Air on my alto (can scream like Sanborn, but can be sweetened towards a mellow jazz tone). The D’Addario is an excellent piece (tenor), too. I settled on an Arnold Montgomery ANKH 7 (for big band blending) and a custom SYOS for solo work. Still love a Lamberson SB and Francois Louis Spectruoso 285.
Wow.. well thanks to you Sir as of a few months ago I’m playing with a Rico M7 on tenor with a Rovner Versa Lig and Vandoren reeds. In fact, I decided to try it on alto and ended up switching from a Rico C5 on alto to an M5 because I found it to be a better match for me on alto. I like the Vandorens, the metal Links, and the Berg, but the cost of Metalites can’t be beat when they work, especially without having to do any modifications on them!
I like the saxophone rico graphtonite C over the metallites. But one should sand the table flat on these, and sometimes touch up the rails just a tiny bit too. I LOVE my rico graphtonite C7 on my clarinet for jazz. Very very hard to find a clarinet mouthpiece with a rollover/circular style baffle like on the C7. Everyone should own one in case they quit making them...I actually like it more than the Vandoren JB5 clarinet jazz mouthpiece.
I want to try a soloist, but I don't know anyone who still uses them today. Mostly Selmer S80s, Selmer Concepts, Vandoren Optimums, and the occasional Rousseau or something. I also want to try a Vandoren Profile, and D'addario Reserve mouthpiece
I would like to see you get a new Rousseau mouthpiece and compare with the JDX you have. I have two older Eugene Rousseau mouthpieces, a 4R for my alto which I find is resistant for the tip opening and doesn't play well and a Studio Jazz SJ6 that came with my Conn-Selmer Avant DSS-200 soprano which I like and I am thinking of getting a new Studio Jazz SJ5 made by Jody Espina to see if it feels and or play any better than my current one as his mouthpieces are always well made and consistent.
I think you should check out the Borb Oliver m`pieces based on Guardala MBII.I tried to provide an ebay link..but,anyway they are under $100..I like `em,bet you will too Adrian..
