John Du Prez will always be freaking awesome, as much as I really really love Mutant Mayhem, I think they should pay homage to this theme in its sequel that’s already in active development.
I actually think it’d work really well if the tone of the film starts off more lighthearted, and progressively gets darker with the arrival of the Shredder.

You can like or dislike the movie, but it has awesome Jim Henson creature animatronics, a great soundtrack and the beginning with the amazing build-up leading to the protagonists' on-screen appearance is sheer light-hearted kids' entertainment awesomeness. Plus: Paige Turco is ridiculously hot.
If I rebooted this series, I would make a film about Splinter’s origins. It would be somewhat faithful to the Mirage comic, Hamato Yoshi would be the main protagonist (but unlike the comic, Yoshi would get exposed to the mutagen and become an anthropomorphic rat... rather than his pet being the Turtles’ mentor). Yoshi would have the nickname “Splinter” due to how he easily breaks wooden boards during training. Basically Yoshi and his best friend Oroku Nagi form the foot clan as a vigilante group to protect people in New York, but Nagi takes the clan in a pretty dark direction (theft, assassination, extortion)... turning them into an organized crime outfit. Nagi attacks and almost kills Yoshi during a heist in a TCRI laboratory, after Yoshi tries to intervene and stop the Foot Clan, but Yoshi gets exposed to mutagen and survives... although he transforms into a giant rat. So Yoshi works to undo the ninja clan he helped create, eventually facing off against and killing Nagi, before fleeing into the sewers. Nagi’s brother, Oroku Saki, hears of this and vows to avenge his brother and kill Yoshi, eyeing a bladed helmet and gauntlets. And before the credits, an exiled Yoshi stumbles on four infant turtles, who were exposed to the same mutagen that turned him into a rat. One looks up and asks “Daddy?”. For added fun, Yoshi would use each of the weapons his four chelonian adopted children would eventually use... Dual ninjatō swords, dual sai, a bō staff, and dual nunchaku.
First movie was an amazing adaptation blending the comic book and tv show together while maintaining a serious tone and great comedy. This one has a bigger budget and felt like a summer blockbuster (even though it didn’t come out in the summer). Third one? Meh. TMNT? The third movie we should’ve gotten.
I wish the super shredder could have survived in the end of the movie and then the turtles could have fought him in part 3. Let’s face it part 3 was kinda terrible. Sure it had some cool scenes but the story was bad.
