    I want to see the reverse of this episode. Ben and the food team get a list of ingredients from the 3 Normals and have 30 minutes to have a plan and design the 3 meals for 2. Then the Normals show their plans for the food.

  • @zanelamb6326
    @zanelamb6326 ปีที่แล้ว +688

    I think the bigger difference here, is that Ben and the food team were able to buy the ingredients and then make a plan based on that, whereas the boys opened the bag, and had to on the spot come up with 3 entire dishes with a significant amount of cross-over ingredients. Would definitely be interesting to see the food team and Ben be put on the spot and have 3 of them share the kitchen and work in the same conditions as the boys with no time to plan

      Yeah it’s definitely not a fair contest. Food team has a huge advantage here.

      Food team and Ben are also allowed to go over time, The normals would not be allowed that.

    • @mandine100
      @mandine100 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      Agreed! The food team also had more time. The normals basically had no time to plan anything at all, they should have at least had time to discuss what they wanted to do. Hilarious that ben commented on the chaos when they set it up so they'll end up in chaos 😅

    • @adamrobinson6951
      @adamrobinson6951 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      I agree. There are two ways to make this fair. Either Ebbers only gets 30 minutes to compensate for having a plan already or the guys buy the ingredients for round two.
      That second option sounds great to me. Let each of the three come up with a recipe they can cook within 30 minutes with a bunch of shared ingredients. Then see how well Ebbers, James and Holly manage to reproduce them without any foreknowledge or discussion time.

    A fun, and torturous, twist on this would be to give them the grocery bag and have them each create a dish one at a time. For example, Mike would get the full bag and make a dish, then Barry would go second and only have what Mike didn't use in order to make his dish...and then poor Jamie would have to make a dish with the remnants left by the other two. None of them would know what the others made until the final reveal and judgement. :D

      If you aren't fond of a thing you aren't fond, and that's fair.
      But what I often do with sprouts is stirfry them with chopped onions and diced bacon,
      then add some spices like maybe just salt and pepper, maybe chili, maybe curry powder.
      Might add in some mushrooms, or replace bacon with them if you are veg(a/terian).
      Ofcourse adding in cheese will always do a nice trick (if you like cheese).

    An idea to spice these things up a bit. Have one of the ingredients "Go bad", meaning they aren't allowed to use it, after like 5 minutes so they've already planned a lot of the dishes. Really simulates the real life struggle of thinking you have something in the fridge, only to get home and realise it's rotten

    Edit: Also, I love seeing Ben cooking more in the kitchen! I missed this, you guys actually cooking and showing us recipes and tricks. Not just the games and competitions. I hate how that's what the Food Network turned into, from ACTUAL cooking shows all day every day, to what we have now, which is all competition shows. I get the impression that the Normals have been following Food Team recipes recently, but this was a return to a more classic format where the Normals relied on their skill alone. In that sense, the Food Team has both positives and negatives, but I do see it as a sign of growth for the channel.

      I’ve thought the exact same thing for a long while as the videos in this series have been released. It’s an entertaining challenge to watch because it tests the normals ability to think quickly and adapt quickly when their ad-libbed recipe eventually goes wrong but I dislike that Ebbers is never tested because he knows the ingredients, works with a team of chefs and enters with preplanned recipes to follow with clear and rigid steps so there’s never any uncertainty. I think it should be made fairer, either by letting the normals know what ingredients they will be using prior to the challenge or the ingredients be a mystery to Ebbers and the food team too so that they are in the same position as the normals and have to create quick brief recipes on the fly and adapt them as the process goes on

    You can definitely tell the difference between a chef and a normal by their eating habits 😂😂 Ebbers said he loves orange and lemon in his dishes around the festive period whereas I want stuffing and pigs in blankets and homemade sausage rolls around Christmas time 😂😂 basically I’m just a fat git who wants to overindulge for the entire month with treats that don’t need to be fancy, they just need to be in my belly 😂😂

    I get that you want to make weeknight meals easy, but most of us don't have a 30-minute challenge format we have to observe. I'd love to see the boys given a bit more time so they can spend 10 minutes making a plan. Maybe decouple the planning time from the cooking time.

    I'd have done a sprouty fried rice with blue cheese, potato wedges with either a sweet potato pasta or similar to chefs cous cous , and I loved the bubble and squeak idea, I'd have put that spiced in the pastry, rocket could go with all, the orange I'd have made into a sorbet, not a big fan of orange in savoury dishes, I have a recipe for that atm. I also love the soup usea though, but I'd make it less of a creamed soup, and, yes I'd have a cup of tea, and probably washed up in an hour and a half for 3 meals, that's plenty of time

    Jamie honestly might be onto something with the savoury mille-feulle, that could be a next-level Boxing Day club sandwich. Turkey+Cranberry Sauce in the bottom filling, sliced pigs-in-blankets in the second filling, buttery pastry, someone stop me from trying this.

    I asked the new ChatGPT model what it would come up with for these ingredients and with some tweaks, they don't sound too shabby either:
    Me: _I have these ingredients: puff pastry, brussels sprouts, blue cheese, parsnips, ricotta, lemon, milk, sweet potato, arugula, onion and pine nuts. What recipes would a chef come up with for these ingredients?_
    ChatGPT: _There are many different dishes that a chef might recommend cooking with puff pastry, brussels sprouts, blue cheese, parsnips, ricotta, lemon, milk, sweet potato, arugula, onion, and pine nuts. Some possible dishes include:_
    - _Brussels sprouts and blue cheese tart: This is a savory tart made with puff pastry, brussels sprouts, blue cheese, and pine nuts. The pastry is rolled out and pressed into a tart tin, and then the vegetables and cheese are arranged on top. The tart is baked until the pastry is golden and the vegetables are tender._
    - _Parsnip and ricotta gratin: This is a rich and creamy gratin made with parsnips, ricotta, milk, and lemon zest. The parsnips are sliced and cooked until they are tender, and then they are combined with the ricotta and milk and baked until the top is golden and bubbly._
    - _Roasted sweet potato and arugula salad*: This is a simple and healthy salad made with roasted sweet potatoes, arugula, onions, and pine nuts. The sweet potatoes are sliced and roasted in the oven until they are tender and caramelized, and then they are combined with the arugula and onions and tossed with a lemon vinaigrette._
    _Overall, there are many different dishes that a chef might recommend cooking with puff pastry, brussels sprouts, blue cheese, parsnips, ricotta, lemon, milk, sweet potato, arugula, onion, and pine nuts. The best dish will depend on the individual chef's preferences and the specific ingredients you have on hand._

    I feel like these videos aren't really a fair representation of how good sidekick is. If it was just Ben vs the other three without all the prep there is still a really good chance he just wins. A more interesting challenge is would they be able to beat Ben with the help of the app, since most of the people that would be using it aren't chefs.
