  • @xjet
    @xjet 3 ปีที่แล้ว +125

    I think Drew tried to get across the message that this video was based on what RR sells rather than being a totally objective summary of what's on the market but obviously some could interpret it differently. It might have been wise to put a big written disclaimer right up front though. And I don't think I saw the YT "Paid Promotion" message pop up either so I can understand that some folk are a little upset. However, this is the way of the world these days... people have to earn a dollar and ultimately everyone should do as much research as possible using as many independent sources as possible before making *any* purchasing decision.

    • @dauntlessfpv
      @dauntlessfpv 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    • @redleader6144
      @redleader6144 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Someone with some good sense I appreciate it. Also who is naive enough to truly believe there are 5 best goggles it's a title like a slogan to increase attention to the video, the "5 best" is something so subjective everyone will have different experiences and find what's best for them. As for the video itself Drew clearly states in the beginning feel free to shop around we are gonna talk about the goggles we carry on our store. Which makes sense why talk about products you don't sell, it's a business for gods sake, advertisement for other products can't be done for free

    • @heroflying
      @heroflying 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I agree with you mostly, but it's beyond ridiculous that if you didn't know any better and watched this video, you would come away thinking the DJI goggles can only fly DJI quads and not analog. Especially when you trick out a pair of DJI goggles for a budgetary comparison, include a useless custom face plate and don't show or mention an analog module bay you can easily get for them, I'm sorry, but that's simply inexcusable.

      Rotor riot and fatshark are part of the same company now, owned by redcat (the company that has it in its best interests to have remote ID go ahead). O look an RR commercial about Fatshark and DJI...who would have thunk it...Lol
    But hey, I started out on cyclops box goggles, like watching a Big Screen TV, the only downside for these very cheap goggles ( less than $90 bucks ) is the DVR gets dark after awhile, BUT the screen stays bright and very clear...[ one could wire a better DVR I am sure ] But,then because I wanted non-box goggles like most others, I bought Skyzone 02x's because they were on sale ( less than $200 bucks )and I use them even now and probably will never buy anything else
    I have no need of anything else as I am on a fixed income and with the new rules and regs I am sure the hobby will have to change even more over the next few years IF the hobby remains at all.
    I know as I have aged and went from RC planes to now mostly micro-quads and still a few micro planes, I probably do not have many more years to fly anyway...SO there ya go.

Sadly I cannot recommend this video to anyone who is considering getting into FPV because it is simply a very biased take on FPV goggles and FatShark has some strong competition on the market which were not mentioned here for business purposes (Red Cat is the owner of RotorRiot and FatShark) and not because you kept the user's budget or experience as your priority. I think DJI is only keeping the RotorRiot sponsorship because they don't see FatShark as a competitor.

    • @RotorRiot
      @RotorRiot  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Unfortunately, we have not been able to work with sky zone in a capacity that gives us the confidence that we can support the product. And unless we can support and stand by the product, we won’t carry it and won’t be promoting it in a video. It takes more than just being the “better product” to get on our store and on our channel, we have to believe that we can guarantee it will work for our customers in the long term.

    I love the small form factor of the fatshark digital googles, especially for use with the dji fpv drone (actually waiting for the dji fpv mini). My goal, to pack a small setup in my travel bag so there’s room for other things too. A small radio is needed too.

    Still have my Fatshark Attitude V2. I even modified it to be used as night vision goggles. lmao I haven’t done FPV in years because of money and have not found a good Quad with a good flight controller with replaceable parts that doesn’t become discontinued... 😕 I miss FPV...
    Black was a major issue with the design because it attracted soo much heat in the goggles causing fog. I installed a fan and optics crudely, but it still works.

    Woah, that's pretty high thumbs down ratio! I think viewers got used to rotor riot being about extreme freestyle flying and are disappointed about so much advertising during the episodes. Sorry, I love all you Rotor Riot guys but... If the community saw Rotor riot as just a store then this would be totally fine. Rotor riot is SO MUCH more than that to all of us though. So many of us look up to and highly respect all the members of rotor riot as leaders and unbiased teachers in the FPV community, not sales people. I spent years watching Rotor Riot episodes and feeling like I was hanging out with some exciting and interesting friends rather than watching a video. The modern world is what it is and money drives much of it so I understand needing to put food on the table of course. It's the change over from the "hanging out with friends" feeling to a watching commercials sort of feeling that is most difficult. I've watched Rotor Riot since Flight Test introduced the original 4 members and announced that rotor riot was starting up. The original theme and intent of the show is gone and the heavy commercialization of the channel doesn't suit the name. If you were named something different it might be an easier shift over in your video styles. To me the name Rotor Riot implies the opposite of corporate sponsorship and commercialization. If only you could find a way to get back to going on adventures and ripping crazy new spots like in the old days? How did you pull off stuff like flying the Great Wall of China or Chernobyl before DJI or Red Cat sponsorship but nothing like that afterwards? Seriously, I wish Rotor Riot all the best, I just thought hearing it from a different perspective might help make getting so many negative comments a little more understandable.

    “OUR top 5”, “these are the goggles we sell”, “You can shop somewhere else” “these are not the only goggles out there”... I mean they cant say it any clearer that these are goggles they promote because they sell them and because they are good. Sure, they could have titled it “5 FPV goggles we sell, that are not bad- sometimes not the best, sometimes they are- explaining them to beginners”...would YOU have watched a video titled that?

      I love the EV800D, but in fairness, he did say Fat Shark has better support, so... I mean... he's right about that. But I also think when you're spending $100ish or less on goggles, maybe support isn't nearly the concern it needs to be compared to spending $300 and up, too.

    • @FailsafeFPV
      @FailsafeFPV 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@heroflying You do have a very fair point, yes. However I mean when i've ran the EV800ds for over 7 months without any issues, If there is an issue with them i'm sure I can contact my local shop and they will get something sorted for me if it's in warranty. But personally great customer support in a £80 goggle isn't on my top priorities list. It would be if I was spending £200+ on a goggle, yes.

    Even though I have only used BetaFPV box Google's and don't know the difference between them and something like Orca or any other $300 - $600 I Know that I never hear someone say " I don't like my Fat Shark goggles anymore... I'm going back to box goggles."
    That's enough to convince me I need to upgrade soon.

    • @heroflying
      @heroflying 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In fairness, I have heard someone say that, but that's because their particular eyes couldn't focus on the two micro displays of the higher end goggles. It's very uncommon, but I've seen it personally for people a handful of times.
      I'll also say this: With the Cobra X box goggles out, and considering how much better DJI HD looks over analog, I just have a hard time recommending at least new most any pilot shouldn't spend more than what the Skyzone Cobra X are unless you're jumping all the way up to DJI (I'm excluding serious racers, you guys may want higher end analog goggles). The Cobra X's have a pretty darn good screen and the rapidmix receiver, which is close enough to Fusion or Rapidfire. For that price, I don't see how HDO2's or Skyzone 030s are worth almost double the price or more when at that point you're not far off from DJI, which looks SO MUCH better than any analog setup or Sharkbyte.
