    I met Mr Peterson in his dressing room in 1958 after a show in Bournemouth England. I shall never forget his kindness,a class act giving many years of pleasure.

    That key change at 2:27 gets you high instantly. After taking you around in a typical swingy blues trip the landing is so sweet, back to the theme you'd forgotten. Master.

    I remember that he had a stroke that permanently weakened his left hand,if you look at his left hand in this performance,you will see that the motor function is a lot weaker and slower than the right hand,and he is using his right hand to compensate,to really brilliant effect.Even listening to this you would never know,that his left hand was weak unless pointed out,sheer genius! At the time he never thought he would play again.

      I saw Ray Brown playing with a different trio in 1993, and he was talking with people in the lobby during a set break. He mentioned to those around in conversation that Oscar had recently had a stroke; I think he said it may have happened while they were on performance.

PS :
    A 8:17 il place une descente géniale !!

    Even with pretty much a dead left hand, Oscar was a phenomenal musician. I believe he was technically/pianistically one of the two greatest of them all, the other being Peterson's own hero, Art Tatum.
    Can anyone name the chord he uses between the I and the IV chord progression? Even his own originals were wonderful.

    • @cosmodog1803
      @cosmodog1803 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Bob Burns , Mr. Peterson has the best left hand ever to play piano, he was however; deferential to his bass player. If you listen to any of Mr. Peterson's solo performances, you will have problems keeping up with what both hands are doing.

We can only enjoy whatever little amount there is that’s posted on TH-cam, unfortunately. (Or fortunately there’s still the few videos we can enjoy!)

    I don't understand how you could listen to Evans, Corea and, last but not least Keith Jarrett then even compare them to Tatum or Peterson. The technical ability of the aforementioned alone separates them from Peterson in particular. Complex chords versus playing scales. I have to put Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett at the top of the list (a tie). IMHO
