  • I wanted to do something different and figure out a way to sink my Warn winch into my Motobilt full width conversion kit. The end result is exactly what i was hoping for! Let me know if this video sparked some ideas for you guys to try some custom fab work of your own. Thank you for watching and Merry Christmas!!

    Pro tip. You can use a hole saw to cut the radius then connect with a 4.5" cut off wheel.
    You may want to retube the passenger side of the front axle. The CAD breaking in half is super common. 40" is a huge tire for these.

    • @altered_life
      @altered_life  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The hole saw ideas is great, I’m not very smart and never think of ideas like that when I’m in the moment. As for the retube idea, I’ve actually considered it but between the top truss, the front full hydro mount, the one piece RCV CAD delete, and welding the cast to the tube I’m hoping it will be strong enough where I don’t have to go through the retube process. But we’ll see and I might find out the hard way lol. I appreciate all the tips and advice, also thank you for watching!!

    I sure like how clean that is.

    • @altered_life
      @altered_life  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you! I love how it looks! That bumper is the Motobilt YJ full width conversion bumper. That have a bolt on bumper that looks similar that could be modified and welded on. Thanks for watching! Good luck with the TJ 👍🏼

  • @brettgetz4915
    @brettgetz4915 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Be sure that the slot you put for the fair lead is wide enough (up/down) as the angle of the bumper may make your winch line get closer. Would suck to run that line on that steel.

    • @altered_life
      @altered_life  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes exactly, good call. I did end up beveling those edges as well as ensuring that the line should only contact the fairlead but I will definitely double check that when I hook the winch up for good. Thanks for the tip and checking out the video 👍🏼

    • @altered_life

      Yep the steering box is definitely a little tricky to contend with. I am going full hydro so I luckily didn’t have to worry about it. Check out recoil_tj on instagram and my walk around video of his build and look at his set up for his recessed winch. He was able to keep the steering box and make it all work. Welcome to the channel Gary!! Glad to have you here 👍🏼 I’m obviously a huge fan of YJs lol but I will be painting the frame and bumpers all with Steel-It coating to protect it as well as make it easier for future modifications.

  • @jeremystiltner6781
    @jeremystiltner6781 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great job as usual. Hey iv got a question. I was thinking about doing a rear stretch on mine. Did you use YJ springs or Cherokee springs? I heard the Cherokee springs is a little longer.

    • @altered_life
      @altered_life  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Jeremy, for the rear of mine I used YJ length springs but that required me to cut off and relocate the frame side spring hangers. Cherokee springs are longer and would bolt up after you install the stretch. One thing to think about is with the longer spring, you run into a chance of more spring wrap especially if you do spring over. A anti wrap bar is super necessary. I plan on doing a anti wrap bar with my set up for the extra insurance also. Good luck with your project and if you have any other questions just let me know, thank you for watching and have a Merry Christmas!

  • @DailyBrewGarage
    @DailyBrewGarage 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Looking good. It looks like you are running 37"s? What axles do you have under there? It is hard to tell but that front almost looks like the factory D30. I ask because I am debating on my own YJ build about moving to heavier axles eventually.

    • @altered_life
      @altered_life  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Appreciate it!! Those are actually 40” black labels. The axles are out of a 2018 JL rubicon so “beefed up 44’s”. I have a lot planned to make those axles even stronger to handle the 40’s. I did a walk around video of the YJ last year talking about all the parts and plans for it but now you have me thinking about doing a update walk around on it since a lot has changed and there’s a lot more people that joined the channel. I say go for a YJ build!!! Haha appreciate you watching

    • @DailyBrewGarage
      @DailyBrewGarage 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@altered_life Very nice, I tried to find a walk around video but couldn't dig it up. Did you pull the axles from a junkyard JL?

    • @altered_life
      @altered_life  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ll move the walk around into a “walk around” playlist on my channel so it’s easier to find. As for the axles my best friend swapped one tons under his rubicon so I bought them off him. They only had about 4K miles on them, so they’re practically brand new haha. His build will be on the channel very soon!

  • @tracyedwards3192
    @tracyedwards3192 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I just found your channel. And I must say. Your doing a wonderful job. But my question is. Your doing all this work. And your going to try to run 44s. Why are you not running one tons. I don’t see you doing much hard core wheeling. Without breaking.

    • @altered_life
      @altered_life  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you!! And welcome, lately content has been slow because of some big changes in life but I’m hoping to get back at it real soon. The 44’s were purchased before realizing how the project would snowball lol so since I have already invested the money in leaf spring components and the axles I figured I’d give them a run and see if I can prove the stereotype wrong if done correctly. But who knows I could break them and have to upgrade sooner than planned but I’ll see how it goes hahaha. I have future plans for these axles under another project but until then we’ll see what abuse they can take while I save up for the one tons. Appreciate you being here and supporting the channel 👍🏼🍻
