I own a 2012 Nissan Versa Hatchback 1.8l and have been noticing slight shaking at times when stopped at a red light, as well a slight rpm drops that would then go right back to normal. I’ve had suspicions that my spark plugs are due but have intimidated in doing the job myself. I’m mechanically inclined enough to do my own oil changes, but in areas more sensitive I usually take it in. The only problem with taking my car in for a spark plug job is the ridiculous cost I get quoted. After watching your tutorial I’ve gained enough confidence to do the job myself. What I like about your video that most others fail to do is provide socket sizes and torque settings as they go. Also, your video doesn’t quickly jump from one scene to another, instead you take your time and do each step all the way through so the viewer will know what to expect. Thank you so much for this. I hope this will not be your only tutorial upload and wish your channel all the best.

Great video! I have a 2009 Versa 1.8 with 215000 miles with original spark plugs... Still running great. Will change them out before giving car to my son. The car still has many original parts including original transmission fluid... Never changed! Goes to show how well built this car is. Sure over the years, little things like door knobs and trim become loose... So what? Tighten them! I plan to put another 100k miles on this car. No doubt God willing!
Have had one of these for 7 years . Car is easy to drive and has good rear passenger room which is larger than others in the class. Bought with 11,000 Km on the clock. Now done 106,000 Km So far replaced front bake pads few times new disks at 80 K, rear brakes recently after 80% wear on old ones. Regularly oil (synthetic oil only) and quality filter changes every 8,000 K. Regular drain and fill of Auto Trans fluid ( maxlife multi vehicle ) every 24,000. I often do 400km country trips but use it regularly for short city trips. Car runs and shifts well with city fuel cons. 7.8 per 100 km, and 6.5 KM country. One new battery. Replaced original tires with Yokohamas after 55,000 Km which make the car much better in directional steering and grip in wet. They too are now on need of replacement soon. Consider replacement Yokohamas or Kumho at around A$150 each. Installed sound deadening to doors and rear wheel well (It's a hatch back) with some spary on underbody DIY sound deadening and these reduced noise from road considerably making the car much quieter on country roads at 110KMH.
Hi just bought a 2005 tiida, can you help me with a simple thing, on the dashboard, the fuel gage has several divisions from empty to full. How many liters of fuel are between a division for example between empty and a quarter, thank you
@@TakuCoding On mine it seems to vary because the tank is not the same shape at the top as the bottom and sfter I fill tthe first 50 KM it goes down rather more qickly than the second m and third 50 Km. It is only a guide and if you are worried about fuel use on long trips just see what the displayed fuel usage is and how much longer you have to drive. e.g. if it is 7 litres per hundred and you have a full tank you will know it is half full because you have used 26 litres at 14K per litre and gotten 364 Km .

I followed the instructions/steps to replace the plugs and coils on my versa '07 with no issues. Although I think might not have done the throttle body relearn right.
At 6:40 , you say the engine bolts are 14mm. Can't be. That is the same size as the Sparkplug. I think you mean 10mm. Otherwise. a great video. Saved me a couple of hundred Trinidad dollars.
I own 2018 nissan versa note sv, and I love it, I take care it myself, be sure all my air tires pressure are in balance so the transmission won't work hard and the engine happy. You take care yourself and thanks for sharing that's what we learned. Stay safe my friend.

I have a USA 2014 Versa Note and having to remove the intake manifold change the spark plugs is insanely stupid. Nissan could have easily put some holes in the intake that would allow access to the spark plugs.
@@asama1984 They could have routed the tubes of the intake such that the flat parts where no air flows aligns with the placement of the spark plugs. Then in those flat areas they could have included holes that you could fit a socket through. I have seen this in some cars.
@@tigheklory yes but a lot of car manufacturers do this to save space these days. Instead of having the air intake on the side of the the engine, they stack the air intake on top of the engine. It reduces the length of the engine compartment. That's was the Versa has good interior space.

My serpentine belt is squeaking at the moment. I think it's a worn out tensioner. So I will be doing a video on that at some stage. How long have you had your Versa and how many kms?
@@asama1984 110,000 kms and it's a 2009 and I am the original owner so 10 years now but mine is a 4 speed automatic 1.6 Liter. So far it's been a great automobile. Thank you.

I have this car. Wondering if I should change spark plugs. No issues whatsoever. But I hear a very slight stuttering sound either from the alternator or the belts or the engine. Maybe it was always there.
The main thing you need is a narrow (low profile) spark plug socket. I had to go buy one which made the job longer for me. And a torque wrench is recommended. Are you doing this yourself?
Asama true, i have 12yo tiida I check the coils using multimeter and they are perfect. I dont want to replace a made in germany stock coil with cheap one.
I have a 2010 Nissan 1.8 L hatchback. It begin shaking when I was in park and lagging when I was trying to accelerate. The shaking isn’t occurring when I am going at a higher rate of speed but when I let off the gas it shakes some and then is hard to get back up to speed again. It also seem like it was burning fuel faster and I noticed that my rear exhaust pipe was making a lot of noise. This happened quickly. I ran a diagnostic at AutoZone and it read code P0303. It also showed PO420. So my cylinder 3 is misfiring. They recommended changing the coil only. Should I change the spark plugs and what is the firing order? I was going to try and do this myself because they said it would be easy. I want to make sure I change the right coil. How hard is this going to be on the model I have? If I have to take a lot of stuff off I’m thinking maybe I should go ahead and change all of the spark plugs and the one coil. Also I am going to have my catalytic converter checked. I just put a new exhaust system on this summer. Anyway I have been trying to find information or some kind of diagram or video for my car and want to make sure I do this right.

@@hashmatnaziri7018 ok. I haven't done my coils since 2006 and it's done 174,000km. Coils are expensive and there's no need to change them unless they're faulty.
Pinging indicated pre-detonation. Your knock sensor will try to prevent this by making the spark plugs fire earlier. If the spark plug is worn out there's more resistance which can delay spark. So pinging can be caused by old spark plugs. When did you change your spark plugs last? And do you have a check engine light?
@@asama1984 Spark plugs probably haven't been done for 4 years. If the sound is more a rattle at low rev when accelerating, could it be the timing chain tensioner plastic pad that has worn out? The Tiida i have is the C11 1.5L HR15DE DOHC CVT.
@@karlosullings4577 unlikely to be timing chain related. If that's the case you'd have a misfire at all rev ranges. Our car currently rattles at idle when it in drive. The rattle goes away when in neutral. It could also be a flywheel/transmission issue. These cars are well known for transmission failures.

Is there a video anywhere on TH-cam showing how to adjust the intake valves? I heard that after a certain amount of miles, if the car makes a ticking noise, valve clearance can be adjusted since it has variable valve timing. Thanks in advance.
They say to adjust every 60,000 miles / 100,000km. I'm not sure if there's one on this car specifically but there will be general ones. I believe this has hydrolic lifters but I need to check that and get back to you.

@@asama1984 one of the ignition coil is confirmed faulty. So i change all 4 ignition coil to new. Problem has solved. So i would like to find out which is the faulty coil. thk
@@rontan8835 cool. If you have a multimeter you could test resistance over the coil. Failing that you could put it in 1 old coil at a time back into the engine and see how it runs. Although that would involve a lot of work.

I tryed to do the idle relearn however (the check engine light didn’t turn on (did it multiple times)) I have a Nissan Versa 2010 sedan. Park- 750rpm and on drive with brake- like 650 (is that okay????)
Yes that's perfect. Nissan recommend a re-learn if you have disconnected the battery, but I have done that multiple times without doing a re-learn. Did you change the spark plugs yourself? How did you go?

Hey buddy are you from New Zealand by any chance looks alot like it. I have problem where the engine light is on but I can get no torque/speed past 2500rpms. I have to keep at 2000rpm and initially get speed that way. No good for getting on the highway where you need to pick up speed. People say it's maf senor which might be dirty different type of theories. What is your advice please, just subscribed to your page
I know this is random but what if my cars rmp hesitates and some times it makes a nose when I drive (where the rpm goes up, then a bit down)and when I drake. Any ideas y this might be?
@@danieltenorio3559 if your car hesitates it could be a misfire. That could be caused by a lot of things. If you're spark plugs haven't been changed for a while, start with that. It could be a bad ignition lead. You also have a lot of sensors which control fuel and air. It could be a bad O2 sensor for example. It could also be a transmission problem. Sorry I can't be specific but there are more than 10 different things causing problems with hesitation. Do you have access to an OBD2 scanner?
@@danieltenorio3559no sorry. I've tried a few cheap ones but they don't connect with my car. If you can't work it out, might be a good idea if you take it to your mechanic. If you think your car needs spark plugs and you could do it yourself, you can start with that first.
@@soulcatcher6770 alright. I don't believe there's such a thing as a stupid comment. You clearly don't understand the basics of fuel injection so let me educate you my friend. RPM can either be higher or lower depending on fuel stoichiometry. It's dependant on the location of the leak and volume of excess air, and the vehicle's general ECU mapping. Fuel injection volume is mainly controlled by mass air flow sensors and O2 sensors which is adjusted according to measured air volume. So you could get high rpm if there's fuel compensation to prevent the engine running lean. Or you can get low rpm if there's no or limited compensation and the engine runs lean. Or the third scenario is your rpm will jump up and down (surging) if there's conflicting info with constant adjustments from 2 or more sensors. Hope that clarifies things for you.

Quick way to tell the difference between the 1.6l and the 1.8l is that the PCV valve is on the right side of the motor. 1.8L is on the left side.

@@asama1984 Yes it is. I just get high rpm (2500-4000) after starting the car then it quickly drops to about 800.
@@boumkwo it should go up to 4000rpm for 2 or 3 seconds then down to 1500 until fully warmed up then to around 750. Is yours not doing that?
@@asama1984 My rpm does stay below 1000 after the engine is fully warmed up. I guess that means the relearn was successful.

U should change the Ignition coil first before buying new Spark plugs
It's not necessary if you don't have a misfire. Unless you're rich and don't mind spending $500+
Most ignition coils will last the lifetime of the vehicle

If I have to take a lot of stuff off I’m thinking maybe I should go ahead and change all of the spark plugs and the one coil. Also I am going to have my catalytic converter checked. I just put a new exhaust system on this summer. Anyway I have been trying to find information or some kind of diagram or video for my car and want to make sure I do this right.

Depends how bad the shaking is. Most 4 cylinder engines will have some vibration due to lack of balance. Do you have a check engine light on?
@@asama1984 no , but i have not changed the coils since 2009. it has done 70000ks.
@@hashmatnaziri7018 ok. I haven't done my coils since 2006 and it's done 174,000km. Coils are expensive and there's no need to change them unless they're faulty.

My Tiida isn't shaking but at low rev it makes a pinging type noise, would this resolve that issue?
Pinging indicated pre-detonation. Your knock sensor will try to prevent this by making the spark plugs fire earlier. If the spark plug is worn out there's more resistance which can delay spark. So pinging can be caused by old spark plugs.
When did you change your spark plugs last? And do you have a check engine light?
@@asama1984 Spark plugs probably haven't been done for 4 years. If the sound is more a rattle at low rev when accelerating, could it be the timing chain tensioner plastic pad that has worn out? The Tiida i have is the C11 1.5L HR15DE DOHC CVT.
@@karlosullings4577 unlikely to be timing chain related. If that's the case you'd have a misfire at all rev ranges. Our car currently rattles at idle when it in drive. The rattle goes away when in neutral. It could also be a flywheel/transmission issue. These cars are well known for transmission failures.

Is there a video anywhere on TH-cam showing how to adjust the intake valves? I heard that after a certain amount of miles, if the car makes a ticking noise, valve clearance can be adjusted since it has variable valve timing. Thanks in advance.
They say to adjust every 60,000 miles / 100,000km. I'm not sure if there's one on this car specifically but there will be general ones. I believe this has hydrolic lifters but I need to check that and get back to you.
Do I have to use iridium spark plugs or can I use ngk platinum?
No they don't have to be. You can also use copper or platinum. But they don't last as long as iridiums.

@@asama1984 one of the ignition coil is confirmed faulty. So i change all 4 ignition coil to new. Problem has solved. So i would like to find out which is the faulty coil. thk
@@rontan8835 cool. If you have a multimeter you could test resistance over the coil.
Failing that you could put it in 1 old coil at a time back into the engine and see how it runs. Although that would involve a lot of work.

If you have a look at the start of my video it will tell you all the problems you will have if you have old spark plugs.

I tryed to do the idle relearn however (the check engine light didn’t turn on (did it multiple times)) I have a Nissan Versa 2010 sedan. Park- 750rpm and on drive with brake- like 650 (is that okay????)
Yes that's perfect. Nissan recommend a re-learn if you have disconnected the battery, but I have done that multiple times without doing a re-learn.

I have a honda fit 2004 model with alot of issues lately. High rpm at low speed, say maybe 2500rpm at a speed of 60 which sucks, and jerking problem when i stop. What could be the problem considering i recently changed the gearbox

Hey buddy are you from New Zealand by any chance looks alot like it. I have problem where the engine light is on but I can get no torque/speed past 2500rpms. I have to keep at 2000rpm and initially get speed that way. No good for getting on the highway where you need to pick up speed. People say it's maf senor which might be dirty different type of theories. What is your advice please, just subscribed to your page

I know this is random but what if my cars rmp hesitates and some times it makes a nose when I drive (where the rpm goes up, then a bit down)and when I drake. Any ideas y this might be?

@@danieltenorio3559 if your car hesitates it could be a misfire. That could be caused by a lot of things. If you're spark plugs haven't been changed for a while, start with that. It could be a bad ignition lead.
You also have a lot of sensors which control fuel and air. It could be a bad O2 sensor for example.
It could also be a transmission problem.
Sorry I can't be specific but there are more than 10 different things causing problems with hesitation.

It should be towards the back of the engine. Are you changing the PCV valve?
If it has a CVT transmission, the Carwizard says to change the fluid every thirty thousand miles. If not the transmission will fail you.

@@soulcatcher6770 alright. I don't believe there's such a thing as a stupid comment. You clearly don't understand the basics of fuel injection so let me educate you my friend. RPM can either be higher or lower depending on fuel stoichiometry. It's dependant on the location of the leak and volume of excess air, and the vehicle's general ECU mapping. Fuel injection volume is mainly controlled by mass air flow sensors and O2 sensors which is adjusted according to measured air volume. So you could get high rpm if there's fuel compensation to prevent the engine running lean. Or you can get low rpm if there's no or limited compensation and the engine runs lean. Or the third scenario is your rpm will jump up and down (surging) if there's conflicting info with constant adjustments from 2 or more sensors. Hope that clarifies things for you.
