The little sidewalk vendors he visited in Vietnam became pilgrimages for travelers. Several of them have expanded into brick and mortar businesses. There is a video on TH-cam with the sobbing owners. He changed so many lives. Not many people are as positively impactful as Anthony Bourdain.
Not sure how I stumbled here, but Anthony Bourdain is one of the most important figures in my life. I'm a service industry lifer. It's not a life that's for most people, and one that a lot of people look down upon. But Anthony's success and outlook on life in this industry always made me feel better about the direction my life had swayed. It sucks he had inner demons that ultimately got the best of him. His presence had such an important impact on a lot of us out here and he will never know.
It’s not a life for most, but most people form an opinion on a life they know little to nothing about. I’m in the same life situation. It’s a sad realization that many people in the food service industry feel just like Anthony. So many people look down on it, yet they don’t live that life and are ignorant to it’s struggles. It’s hard work but can be rewarding. If I can pay my bills and work hard, why do people look down on it? Especially when they are usually customers. So many judge you for all your life choices and then expect you to be joyful to make them fat and happy. I’d never pick apart someone’s life at their 9-5 so I want the same respect at my night shift.
God I miss him. I loved all 4 of his shows. Still can't really believe it. He gave me the spark to see the world. The way he poetically wrapped up every show was so beautiful and moving it made me want to jump on a plane and follow in his footsteps. RIP to legend, Anthony Bourdain
I've been a fan of Anthony since I was a kid. He always came off as someone you could easily conversate with and have a good time! A special man to say the least, he will be greatly missed!
He was intelligent, and open minded human being....his death hit me hard and even didnt know him. It meant so much to me to see him travel and share his experience" such good story teller. Fuck! Im crying right now. He was one of a kind
Just watched the Montana episode for the third time. Even before Bourdain passed, even before I was a fan of the Joe Rogan podcast, that was my favorite episode. Of all the places in the world that I traveled with Anthony, the one in my own backyard was the most poignant. I cried at the end this time. Thank you Anthony, for all that you shared with this Earth -- and thanks to Joe and Morgan for taking the time to remember a dear friend.
Bourdain's death was the only one to make me cry, him and Rogan (and very few others) played a huge role into me becoming who I am today since I became a fan of them in my late teens many years back (they were positive male role models in my formative years when I only had a few in real life). He made me want to travel and experience things whether that be food or just other cultures in general and help formulate my outlook on life. His wit and badass no bullshit attitude was such a powerful inspiration to me, and I always looked up to him as someone I wanted to be more like, so when someone that important to you ends up taking their own lives it hits far deeper than it would normally.. But at the end of the day some people are just tormented, and I only know how that can feel a little bit, so I can only imagine how miserable it must be for you to consider taking your own life just to end it all no matter how badass or successful you are. It makes me really take mental health more seriously. I hope people who haven't seen his shows go back and watch them and appreciate what he left behind (start with Rogan's episode if you haven't seen any yet), because his positive outlook on humanity (especially in places where there isn't that much positivity going on) needs to be adopted as much as possible especially in dividing times like these. R.I.P to one of the best people ever to live.
"But at the end of the day some people are just tormented." Who knows how tormented he was. He was a great man who did a LOT of stuff, and in the end, he mightve seen that he had already done all and decided to end it. No shame in that.
His wit, No BS attitude were always spot on. Ive never heard anyone disagree with him. King of common sense. And travel makes anyone more open minded. Since he passed, I dont think anything has been said or written has truly described him. Robin Williams, Chris Cornell...rough year.
I'm sitting here at 5am with tears in my eyes all these months later. I never thought I'd ever feel like this from a celebrities death. I'm happy he had such an impact on so many people.
Because He knew, that in the end, it doesn't matter what you eat. What mattered was with whom you've shared that experience. That's what all of his shows were about :)
Gotta say, I appreciate the fact that we live in an age where 2 grown, fit, and strong grown men can sit together and cry for a lost friend whom they loved. This is what it means to be a man.
Anthony Bourdain became a personal hero of mine, because of his attitudes to life and the world. It is a very select group of people that can affect me in that way.
Comeone man...he's focused on spending his millions of dollars and trying to make more off the system! Maynards a selfish sellout douche who doesnt care about music or his band. Its money he 's focused on.
Bourdain was the best representation of a great cultural curious American. I'm a Vietnamese American and I admire this man and I will continue to introduce everyone I know to his show and life's work while he was here. He is missed.
For many it was hard, well said Henna. I love you if that means anything. Your positive energy is obvious through your comment, you are a nice person and I hope this comment finds you well.
I don't think anybody who knew him personally could've ever imagined he'd ever take his own life but me as a viewer of his show for many years, you could tell there was always something a little dark under the surface with Bourdain.
I was in the Dallas airport on my way to San Diego when I saw on the giant TV that Anthony passed away. It was a shocker and it made me feel a lot more thankful about the life I have now because of the fact I never took my own life a couple years prior. He was a personality I looked up to. Genuine, uplifting, did everything and anything he wanted to do. Definitely a good inspiration for people.
Christian Prado but shouldn't you look at it like what he did or said that made you happy now was all bullshit. Even he didn't believe it shown by the fact he said screw it and checked out. You should be evaluating who you look up to.
No one is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes and you shouldn't do EVERYTHING your inspirations do. Miles Davis is one of my heroes but I'm not gonna go get hopped up on heroin and carry a pistol around just because he did it. Everything in life should be taken with a grain of salt.
I could see through his Instagram videos he was tired of it (life). Alone in hotel rooms. So much to live for, but he lived more than most would. It really is sad..
Bourdain's travel documentaries are completely unique television. I'm halfway through the CNN shows and, aside from some preachy political moralizing at times, it is Bourdain at his finest both on screen and in his writing and narration. There are hints in some of the shows of his fatalistic, even nihilistic mindset foreshadowing his suicide.
I got to train with him in Jiu-Jitsu one time. I told Anthony he should go to Okinawa to do a show. He did and trained with my old Karate master in the show.
My wife and I went to Dojo Bar and met the owner and also that amazing Okinawa restaurant w the pork belly, after seeing the episode. Will never forget.
Really sad about bourdain I fell in love with his knowledge n raw way he portrayed the world. As a Sagittarius myself his job sounds like a dream job but u never know what a person is going through in the inside
I have watched every episode of every show of Anthony Bourdain..I mean all, over and over again! I related to him on every level, specifically addiction. I too have jumped from addiction to addiction and never understood why! He once said, not sure which episode, you will never find that feeling of that first high! Totally relate! We're chasing a ghost..yup! He's verbiage, body language and looks were those of a struggling confused addict; even during his post recovery..he was hesitant to admit he was an addict. I completely understand if we admit we are addicts we claim it forever..we'd rather call it a demon! I love Tony and admire his conviction to conquer the myth that we can't live a fulfilling life on our own terms! I will forever follow him through TV, books and recipes!!!
I never take to many celebrities, although I had an amazing connection to Anthony. He had a mysterious magic about him! I don’t think that he was fully aware of the tremendous impact that he had on us. I remember crying like a baby when he passed. That is something that I NEVER do! RIP Anthony Bourdain!
I FINALLY understand why there were a few random comments/references to his death being a homicide. Anthony had a passion for this world I don’t think he left bc he chose to leave. And also the way he left it’s all highly suspicious at the very least
I felt/feel like a family member was lost! EVERYBODY mourned him all over the world, no matter what race or creed! He could have run for president and won! RIP Big Ant.!
Why does Anthony Bourdain still bother us. Only knew him as a TV Celebrity and still years later his face haunts one's awareness. Sad. Like Robin Williams....it's just a human sadness we all feel. And I don't know what finally broke him so much...but something just did.

Like Joe said, Bourdain had no background athletics, but clearly, having been working in kitchens for a huge part of his life, was used to physicallly demanding and strenuous activities.
Bro you ever seen pictures of Bourdain shirtless considering he was a heavy drinker and smoker this dude was in crazy shape

@@JC-ul6cw No, I never have, but my comment wasn't meant to be ironic. The environment of a professional kitchen is, in fact, very strenuous and demanding. The book "Heat", by the journalist Bill Bufford, for example, is an account of the year the author spent working as a rookie assistant in chef Mario Batali's New York kitchen. The book chronicles in detail how heavy is the work in a high-end kitchen.
@ Oh yeah I can imagine. I would fucking hate working in a high end kitchen the stress would be unbearable but hey some people can just handle that kinda pressure.
lmao he only dropped it like twenty times. Good call mate. Maynard is a crybaby ....all he ever did was write gibberish over really talented musicians. He's money focused now...wants to be a big WIG.
My heart is broken! I suffer from mental Illness. It's no joke ! He was so awesome! People do not get how serious it can be it's no joke. RIP beautiful soul!!! ❤️
That episode was was one of my favourite one and the food was awesome, buffalo stacks berry soup and fry bread. Plus the Indian relay (rodeo) so cool rip.
Glad as fuck you got to hang out with a legend. It's really hard when people like that leave us. My dad was also a legend.. Suicide is a bitch. I'm sorry for your loss.
Sorry for your loss , he will missed. Only show i would serial watch was Parts Unknown. Maybe Anthony had sensory overload? Seen to much sadness and hate on the world, and was blind sided couldn't see the love and good times. Maybe there was more going on then the public knew; obviously. Rest in peace Anthony
I appreciate Joe's tears, as they are sincere, and spilling for a person, who, can't be replaced, and THAT, in this world of puppet,-cloned, lockstep - cowardly sheep, is something so very very special and rare.... And i wonder just how many like Joe, can even realize the size of the catastrophic loss that is created by the passing of Anthony Bourdain. So, you ask yourself,.. WHO could step into the gap, into the shoes... and do what this amazing man accomplished? Who? . He was a mosaic original. There is nothing else/noone like him. So, i hope you appreciated him while he was out there doing it and giving his all, and if you didnt, be glad for the opportunity to watch what he left us all so that we might see what a vision he offered, in every show, and in every interview, and in every book.
I hear you. My wife and I always loved his shows. So when we heard of his passing, we stopped watching Parts Unknown because it kinda felt weird. About 4 months ago we tried again, because there were so many episodes that Netflix still hadn't uploaded yet. So catch up, you know?. I fucking choked listening to him. My wife was silent the whole time. We didn't comment, we didn't discuss what he was saying. We finished that one episode, turn it off and haven't watched it since. It physically hurts to listen to Anthony talk and know he is gone. It sucks, because Anthony really wanted to know and understand everyone. Except hipsters lol. But, man, he was so genuine trying to know and understand what makes people tick. And that is so fucking rare these days. The last 2 decades have been a growing turmoil of the "its all about me" mentality that he fucking stuck out like a gentle giant that wanted to hear you. Genuinely hear you, and share with you. So fucking rare this days.
I've been watching a lot of it, but it's bittersweet because I know that, some day, I'll get to the end of it, and there will never be any more. No one could do it like him.
The world is full of plastic souls. So much so that I lean towards being misanthropic. There are very few truly good people who are just "real" , no BS, no vanity, jealousy or agenda. Anthony was one of those. His only agenda was to be nice to your fellow man, encourage people to get off their ass and experience different foods, different scenery, different cultures, etc...and to just enjoy life. No words...no words...
Anthony wont get to see any of this. I dont know what he'd feel to see this outpouring of love for him. Send your friends a text or a call. Love you tony.
While I totally believe people should be able to leave this planet when they want to... I mean we don't get to choose when we were born we don't get to choose those circumstances part of why I really need to consider reasons to keep going is just not to hurt the people that love us. I am turning 55 this year I have done everything I want to do and I really don't want to be 65. I don't want to grow old. But I also don't want my parents to go through the hardship of a police officer letting them know that I am no longer here because I took my own life. So yeah you choose your battles based partially on the people that love you. That being said I have huge respect for Anthony Bourdain and I don't think he was a horrible person to do what he did.
I think and believe that Anthony Bourdain took his life because his wife was toxic. She was a train wreck. He had his own demons but to have someone that toxic beside you makes life so much more difficult.
We (addicts) are unique individuals that has a piece of our souls "normal' FOLKS WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND! I understand why; I knew his soul i.e inner thoughts of isolation..RIP Anthony"Tony" Bourdain

My heart is broken! I suffer from mental Illness. It's no joke ! He was so awesome! People do not get how serious it can be it's no joke. RIP beautiful soul!!! ❤️
He is at peace! 💜 RIP!
A fitting t-shirt.... in more ways than one.
Bourdain is all of us.
Heartbreaking
R.I.P
So damn sad. Rest in Peace dude
Joe Rogan is amazing!!
I haven’t been able to watch any of his shows since he passed.
Same
Everyone ignores the fact that Anthony Bourdain's body was cremated against his family's wishes.
Really? Where'd you get that from please?
quite a few sources
don't listen to me just look it up yourself
Yeah I intended on it, all good I'll just do some googling then.
"Against his family's wishes" what were his wishes though?
I never ruminated about someone’s suicide. My brother committed suicide a few later July 18th
Joe "The Fastest Man Alive" Rogan
thanks joe, needed this
Get Marco Pierre White on the podcast. He’s so articulate
Anthony wont get to see any of this. I dont know what he'd feel to see this outpouring of love for him. Send your friends a text or a call. Love you tony.
Poor guy got mixed up with the wrong woman and couldn’t see past it. Sadly obvious.
Spot on.
Yep, what a waste! Over a f*cking chick!
How do you know?
The Sun disappears...fuck, I felt that.
sorry forever for Tony
He was married to someone who was a ji-jitsu expert. So I'm sure she had an influence on him pursuing this sport.
I miss Tony.
I put all my energy into work. Addicted to my job and people don’t understand why I’m always thinking about it

Is it vanity? A quest to stay fit and young that disapointed him as he got older, he still was in shape.
