    I love the Van Gogh paintings that you showed at the end. Were they on the 820, your tv (which model) or did you set them up yourself? I’d love them as a screensaver type of thing, they show off the colours. Thanks!

      When you stop it and after 20 minutes you start it again, does it start from the point of the movie where it stopped? or does it start again from the beginning of the movie? They say that the 820 can't keep memory and it starts from the beginning of the movie!!

    I got one about 2 years ago during Black Friday for $350. I absolutely love it. The HDR optimizer makes some movies look better than they do using Dolby Vision. Also I know there are weaknesses to it's streaming capabilities but when I stream TH-cam on it the picture is fantastic. Better than through my TV app or Roku.

    • @b-icemedia
      @b-icemedia  ปีที่แล้ว

      You got a great deal on it! I haven't gotten around to using the optimizer yet, but I'm thinking of tinkering with it this weekend. I'm glad the streaming has been working great for you! I've only tried Netflix through it, and it seemed to struggle for me.

    • @milldude19
      @milldude19 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@b-icemedia I do know that many people have problems using Netflix on this player. The most important step in setting up the optimizer is setting the tone mapping to match your TV's nit (peak brightness) capabilities.

    • @b-icemedia

      Yeah, I do have that already set up! Most of my 4K discs are Dolby Vision, so the setting is usually not available for me.

    Hello and congratulations for the video. A fundamental question, unfortunately the 1100 euro big brother 9000, on mkv movies from usb, does not emit high resolution audio, i.e. the dts-hd master audio, dolby atmos and dolby true hd are muted, they only work from the original blurays. Can you tell me if this model doesn't have this castration wanted by Panasonic on the 9000? Thank you!

    • @b-icemedia

      @Valo So Grazie mille della tua risposta, si, infatti ho preso ub820 ed [ deludente come il 9000. Poi ho provato la nvidia shield e legge di tutto, ma ho risolto definitivamente con il pc collegato alla tv tramite hdmi e l'altra uscita hdmi collegata al preamplificatore, e riconosce tutti i formati audio senza problemi, se compro dischi 4k o bluray, li riverso in mkv sul pc senza compressione e li guardo cosi, conservando i supporti fisici solo per collezione. PS: la qualità video del pc è superiore a tutti i lettori provati, moto più dettaglio e nitidezza, un esempio lampante è nei film molto vecchi e restaurati in 4k che hanno della grana presente, negli altri lettori la grana veniva un po "mangiata", invece dal pc esce tutta bella dettagliata e nitida. Ho finalmente risolto il problema. Per chi non ha la voglia o la possibilità di collegare il pc, consiglio la Nvidia Shield, o uno dei lettori multimediali che hai consigliato tu. Grazie ancora per la tua condivisione.

      @@b-icemediathe reason they don’t is because the Dolby Vision required for gaming on a console is a different type. I love Panasonic products. Matter of fact, it was only last year I finally made the move to my LG C1 OLED over my Panasonic GT30. I still use the GT30 for my upstairs TV. But I’m finding it hard to justify $500 for a 4K player when my Sony does what I need it to do. I love new toys, so I’m trying to justify it. Just can’t yet.

    • @b-icemedia

    This was my third Panasonic Blu Ray player, first one 4K capable. Always had good luck with them. Sold my previous system with the old house and purchased the 820 as part of a new system for a new retirement home that was under construction. Purchased it, but couldn’t use it as due to Covid, house was slow being built, so was six months into warranty the first time a disk was played. Worked fine for about a month, then disc tray locked up with disc inside and wouldn’t open. Had to send in to the factory for repair. What I found out that after six months, only parts would be paid. So I had to pay shipping and insurance, about $50 bucks. Also had to pay labor for the repair, another $200 bucks. Received it back, worked fine for about another month, now it locked up,again and looking at getting stuck with another $250 for repair. Note that the repair process is difficult and set up so you can’t speak to anyone, just send it in. Maybe I got a lemon, but note that the warranty will basically be useless and being able to speak with a Panasonic customer service agent is impossible. 😂

    I had the Panasonic UB9000 connect to my Marant AV processor and I noticed a lower in volume and when I used the Marantz remote control to increase the volume, I did not see the the horizontal volume bar on the TV screen any more.

    • @b-icemedia
      @b-icemedia  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, I haven’t had any issues with low volume. I’ve only noticed quieter sound on older movies, and I know that’s dependent on the film’s quality and age. I believe the volume bar on screen usually doesn’t display during movie playback, but I know it’s also a switchable setting in most AVRs.

    I heard there's a way to bypass region locking on blu-rays (vast majority of 4Ks are region-free). You put in a foreign region disc, wait for the player to say you need to play a disc from your region, press 'stop' (may have to press it multiple times) then, once you see a screen with the Ultra HD Blu-ray logo, hit 'top menu' (may have to press it multiple times). In most cases, it should take you straight to the disc's main menu. From there, you can play the movie or show that's on the disc

      I read online that it does support Dolby Atmos through the Netflix app, but I also read some people say that certain receiver brands won't play Atmos through the app. I haven't personally given it a shot.

    Bought this, and returned this. The picture looks tinny, thin, and lacking texture. Some 4K films refuse to play on them. Streaming services are terrible. Clunky interface. Most of the image tweaking is better performed by the TV/projector. Sloppy tray loading mechanism. The Remote is badly designed, it's like they could not afford a full-length remote and chopped half of it off. Does not scale DVDs through image processing. it basically just fits the screen size and is not always for the older DVD formats. Sometimes it does not come on and stays in a weird cycle mode, and need to switch it on and off many times (have had three of these units and they are the same, it is buggy software that is causing this and they won't update it). I just bought a Sony XM800 instead. The picture is a lot fuller and more stable and doesn't get any software issues with bugs etc, Dolby Vision implementation is the only iffy thing about the SONY, but apart from that it plays a lot better and will play all my 4K discs which is the most important thing for me. If you are desperate for a Panasonic model, the UB150 or UB450 are functional at less than half the price of the UB820

    • @b-icemedia
      @b-icemedia  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry it didn't work out for you! I haven't had any issues with it not playing any discs, but I have had it power cycle maybe three times out of the hundreds of times I've turned it on. I definitely agree the build quality could be better (I'm not a fan of the disc tray either), and the remote isn't the best, but you can get a cheap upgrade that lights up and is larger for $10 on Amazon, if need be. Can't say much on DVDs because I only have a handful left, but they generally don't look great on today's TV regardless of the player in my opinion. I'm glad the Sony is working out for you!

    • @ZZ-ou7gp
      @ZZ-ou7gp ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@b-icemedia It's the Warner Bros 4K discs that don't work. Try 2001 or Batman VS Superman 4K remastered edition. But the other issue is the thin picture quality. even with HDR it still is bad. My LG TV does an incredible job of image processing and upscales DVDs with interpolation of pixels using AI to fill in the gaps giving you a very pleasant almost 1080p experience. I think the lower-end Panasonics are probably better valued for the average user regards cost benefit. And would urge everyone to give the SONY a go especially if they have a Bravia TV or LG, as the picture is dense and immaculate, something the Pansonics won't give you even if you go for the top-end UB9000 model.

  • @MrNorcal81
    @MrNorcal81 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The 820b is an excellent disc spinner but its remote is badly designed with congestion between some buttons. It's too easy to hit the wrong button. You can find better Panasonic remotes online. The UB9000 remote is much better some are available on eBay for 30 bucks.

    • @b-icemedia
      @b-icemedia  ปีที่แล้ว

      I usually go OEM when it comes to remotes but something like this that I won't use all the time I just got a knockoff and it was around $12 on eBay. It even has the HDR setting button! The backlit is also nice but I do wish it was of a warming color vs white. It's a little too bright too but I can't complain for that price though.

  • @robertmartinez167

    You didn’t go into 4K Disc and Blu-ray Disc picture quality. That’s the main reason for buying this.

    • @b-icemedia
      @b-icemedia  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would argue that the picture quality heavily relies on the tv and/or receiver, so I didn't go into that topic. I would say disc loading speed and the HDR optimizer were my main reasons for getting it.

      I would say at $400 it's worth it! I got this over the Sony M2 which I was eyeballing for a while since I'm a big Sony fan. Leading up to my purchase I felt like it was worth spending a little more not to have any disc reading issues and having to swap to DV each time.
