      So the duo 7-1 is just as good as this one? Is it worth the extra money

    • @LivingRichlyonaBudget
      @LivingRichlyonaBudget  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I use the DUO all the time. The Ultra just makes certain things easier like it automatically seals the lid when you close it. And you can set it to a specific temperature for sous vide. If those features don't matter to you the DUO is just fine.

      The primary reason I picked the Ultra version over the Duo is because I can do sous vide. I love that idea that I don't have to buy a special souz vide heater to play with a couple times a year.

      Lucky you.I tried to be a 240 v model for Aus from iPhone uk, no go as thru Amazon which did not export to Aus, so ended up with mini ultra at huge shipping from USA and then a voltage convertor of great weight and cost and 18months later just cooking with it . Meanwhile Amazon slyly exported 240 volts to Aus last year. But the IP ultra is beautiful.

      @@eavenlyjenstillman7034 the rice measuring cup is frail and a non event the two spoons like waist. Hope you got a good price, it’s a pity IP does not get strong quality control. Apparently you got the condensation cup that matters 5the others are very cheap a 2$ thing. Be happy the ultra is lovely.

    I have had my beautiful Instant Pot for over a year (almost 2 years, mainly because we were getting ready to sell our house) and NEVER USED IT. I have a terrible fear of pressure cooking. Today I decided it has to come out of the box. I am a very experienced cook, food preserver and canner and decided I am being really dumb by not using this 61st birthday gift to myself. The demos have all been different and every one seems to leave something out. I found yours this morning and as we speak it is cooking dried black beans! Thanks for an excellent demo! Now that Im over the fear of pressure cooking my beans Im sure everything else will be quite easy for me. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge!!! Great job. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

    Bought a Martha Stewart Everything Pressure Cooker and her book Pressure Cooker and returned them both. Made only one meal in the PC and when I wiped condensation of the inside of the pot with a paper towel, black came off on the paper. OMG! So NOW I just took my new Instant Pot Ulta (which I should have gotten first) out of the box and came to TH-cam to find some instruction videos about it. Found you first and am glad I did! It helped me so much just to watch your "out of box" video. Thank you! Will find some more of your videos to learn more!

    Wish the rice setting time could be changed. It is set to 12 minutes! Way too long. I have to use pressure cook for 6 minutes and I got great sticky white rice! The instant pot site says that the rice program adjusts to how much rice you have in the pot, but I don't see how!

    Anyone else notice the chrome strip on the lid of the instant pot ultra looking different? Mines started to look a bit off after 6 months use. I hardly wash the lid too. One day out of no where, I noticed the strip looked bubbly like air bubble inside. I pushed down on it and it made this crinkly sound so right then I knew it’s obviously not metal but more like a sticker. Upon looking closely I noticed a small tear which also ended up peeling off and revealing plastic underneath! For the amount I spent to purchase for this pot, I’m pretty shocked as I expected something of better quality!

    Thanks so much for taking the time to make this video. I agree with the others here, you made the most informative video I have seen. I watched a bunch. The hold in for 5 sec, would have taken me forever to figure out. Haha right there you earned your wages!
    My Ultra 8QT is on its way and I'm looking forward to having fun eating everything that can fit in it.
    On the trivet, I also thought that could be used with jars to make yogurt. I also see they have silicone steaming trivet kits available. A lace near by makes those Chinese pork buns, frozen to steam at home, have oyu tried anything like that, or to make yogurt? Do you use or recommend the steaming kit?
    You mentioned popcorn... I need to see how thats done. I guess I' ordering covers too.
    The primary reason I picked the Ultra version is because I can do sous vide. I love that idea that I don't have to buy a special souz vide heater to play with a couple times a year.
    Two things I think should be emphasized a bit more, and on most Insta pot videos I have seen. That is the warning against steam burns by that exhaust valve. I've seen it on my daughters instapot and it can be dangerous, also point the steam away from your cabinets unless you want that steamy goodness to go into your cabinets. Second great point about the silicon gasket. Keeping the lid upside down to dry is a great idea. Id prob still pull mine out and let it sit lose till ready to use so anything inside will dry out. I heard many issues with that, but your idea makes most sense. I can only guess stinky is not good. Thanks again, you did a great job making and editing. I learned a lot.

      Thank you for the compliment! I haven't tried steaming anything in the Instant Pot yet. You can let me know how it turns out. Here is the link to the popcorn video: th-cam.com/video/bO1WgcjF8SA/w-d-xo.html

      @@LivingRichlyonaBudget Thank you!
      I was tickled by your comment on the condensation cup, and remembered your comment 0:50 when I put the unit together. I laughed when I repeated you.. "yes.. you think you don't have it, you do have it, its inside the rice measuring cup." Funny. There it was! Haha
      I made a simple stew first. And... of course I smelled something. There is that thick paper under the pot on the heating element. It started to smoke. Hahah. Oh it scorched the bottom of the pot. I took some comet cleanser and a scotch brite pad to get that off. Did the wate test then made Stew. Easy.
      Ill be getting the lid and steamer set for doing yogurts is one of our goals.

    I have an Ultra and I'm not quite getting something... I have tried to set the pot to low pressure to cook hard boiled eggs. Whether I’m in Pressure Cook or Egg mode I have the same issue…. I choose the mode and set it, I then set the time I want, and then try to set the pot to low pressure. I can get it the setting to bounce back and forth between high and low, but when I try to leave it on low the pot returns the setting to high. What’s going on and how do I get it to stay on low pressure? Thanks!

    I don't understand about the venting feature on the top. When pressure cooking, the cooker seals and then emits a constant stream of steam. Did I miss part of the instruction. Is it supposed to keep putting our steam? And the timer hasn't even started yet.

    • @LivingRichlyonaBudget
      @LivingRichlyonaBudget  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The vent may let out a little steam before going under pressure. But it shouldn’t be a constant stream of steam. You might want to check that your sealing ring is snug. If it has problems going under pressure or is constantly steaming throughout cooking then contact Instant Pot for further help.

    Can someone guide me with what needs to be done of the whistle release button (lid programming) before and after the cooking

    • @LivingRichlyonaBudget
      @LivingRichlyonaBudget  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When you close the lid on the Ultra, it locks automatically. When the pot is done cooking, do a quick release by pressing the button on the lid, to release the steam pressure. When the pin drops, you can open the lid. Or wait for a natural release, which means wait for the pot to naturally release the steam which could take a few minutes or longer. Then when the pin drops, you can open the lid.

      Quick release or natural release depends on the recipe and what you're cooking.
