    It's weird how it ended up being used for the Xbox Live Arcade Versions as well as Nuts & Bolts. To me instead of doing Stop 'N' Swop, they should have just used the Controller Pak to transfer the data.

      Nearly all N64 games were capable of holding save files on the cartridges, so you almost didn't need a memory card at all. Rare probably chose not to require this so kids could just ask their parents for the new game and keep it simple. I can already imagine 30% of moms going out to the store and coming home with a rumble pack and wondering why it won't do what their kids need lol.

      @@awesomeguy2278 It was a brilliant way to force (well... nicely coerce) people into buying BOTH games. Honestly, from a "hackable" point of view, if this was literally the only way to allow the data into Tooie (or was planned to be) it was super clever.

  • @YankeeGamer
    @YankeeGamer  10 ปีที่แล้ว +78

    Just to clarify since some people are getting confused. The beach scene at the end of Banjo-Kazooie was recorded on the Xbox Live Arcade version of the game which is why Mumbo says Nuts & Bolts instead of Banjo-Tooie. In the N64 version Mumbo says Banjo-Tooie.

    Ahhh man, I still remember mulling over Stop N Swop as a kid in the late 2000s. IDK about anyone else, but after reading through so many different forums theorizing about what its intended purpose was, it always felt fitting to imagine that if Stop N Swop happened as originally intended, that we would've gotten a brand new level to play through in Kazooie or Tooie. It was a mystery that compelled me as much as L Is Real.

    @peaceteafitzsimmons1 What I intentionally didn't explain was that in the N64 version of Banjo-Tooie you can find 2 hidden BK cartridges AND the Ice Key. The 2 eggs give you the moves Breegull Bash and Homing Eggs while the Ice Key unlocks the Mega Glowbo safe where you can give it to Wumba and transform into Dragon Kazooie. The same principles apply to the XBOX Live Version with the exception that you can get a new theme from one of the BK Eggs. Hope this clears up any confusion you had!

    Nearby you should see a ledge with a seaside bucket on it, but unfortunately it's got holes in it and is ironically called "Leaky". Help patch the holes by pooping some standard eggs into it. Being thankful for your assistance, Leaky then drains the cryptic sandcastle for you in return. Hope that helped :3.

    Again, if you pull the cart while console is on, it's pointless because it freezes because of the security CIC chip in the cart. It wont resume just because you insert it again, you need to cycle power. Also, even if you where flash gordon and could swap the carts before the console noticed the lack of CIC chip (and without destroying the whole thing due to the extreme friction xD), BK and BT have different CIC types which are incompatible, so you'd still have the same problem.

    No one will believe me but when I was little I rented Banjo-Kazooie (before Tooie was even announced) and fooled around Spiral Mountain and Mumbo's Mountain until somehow I unlocked a Note Door to appear underneath Grunty's picture. The Note Door said 900 notes and the file I played on had the game already 100% beaten. Upon entering you appear in a lava filled room (similar to the Gobi Dessert Picture room) that has a narrow path that goes all around the room in a circle.

    Banjo Tooie was originally supposed to be called Banjo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts but was later changed to Banjo Tooie and they used the name Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts on the new game because it worked with Stop & Swap and that's what the end of the first game said (N64&XBLA).

    so, basically, you'd reach a certain point in BK that'd put the needed data in RAM, power off, and within the 10 seconds where the console's RAM, due to some residual power still powering it, I suppose, retains the needed "swap" data, you pull BK, insert BT and power on before the data in ram volatilizes just to have BT find it and give you the goodies.

  • @TheLastLineLive
    @TheLastLineLive 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    The Stop N Swap idea isn't bad but why not just do like the Sonic and Knuckles cart, but have the sequel have the part where the prequel can plug into it, and it can add that extra content when played that way. I wonder if patents prevented it possibly.

  • @Andrew-ol6ru

    the stop n swap items are for unlocking dragon kazooie in banjo tooie

  • @radornkeldam
    @radornkeldam 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    correction to the author. The swapping would have to be performed AFTER poweroff, not while "hot" (hence the STOP, in STOP'n'swop). The logic for this comes from 2 factors. The 10 or 1 seconds of data retention would be meaningless with power still on, since well, power would still be on. and secondly, if you pull a cart from an N64 while "hot", the console stops immediatelly because the security CIC chip is polled continually, and once it stops responding, the console locks until powercycled.

  • @lolrus5555
    @lolrus5555 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I guess we all should've seen it coming, but after all those years of speculation and theorizing about what the Stop n Swop items would do, I was more than a little disappointed that the items didn't get you to some crazy awesome secret world, like the Giant's fortress, or Fungus Forest.

    Sort of. The 'Bottles Revenge' mode is actually left on the N64 version of Banjo-Tooie, but it's inaccessible without a Gameshark, though I don't know that it was ever confirmed that it was anything to do with Stop N Swop. According to Rare, they chose not to unlock the 'Bottles Revenge' mode on the XBLA version because it would take too long to alter the game. The mode let the closest enemies to Banjo be possessed and controlled using the second controller.

  • @YankeeGamer

    @az1993productions On the original Banjo Kazooie for the N64 the Stop N' Swop eggs are completely useless but can found using cheat codes. The Stop N' Swop eggs in Banjo Tooie however for the N64 are MEANT to be found and are USEFUL by bringing them to Heggy's Egg Shed by Wooded Hollow for her to hatch and receive what's inside the eggs which include: the Breegull Bash attack, a Homing Eggs cheat code, and obtain Jinjo as playable character in the multiplayer game.

  • @Nomad9
    @Nomad9 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    A couple things as I'm sure you've already been told but whatever:
    First off, you're wondering why the other four SnS eggs don't have any special location for them, but you have to remember that SnS got axed REALLY early into it's development, so basically the cheat codes and their unceremonious locations are merely place holders. You would think that the people who ported it to XBLA would go the extra mile and ask Rare what they had planned, or at least maybe throw SOMETHING together for them, but no, they are far too lazy for that I guess.
    And lastly, the Bottles' Bonus game is available as soon as you unlock Treasure Trove Cove. Which... makes sense, as that's the stage that has the cheat entering room. I'm also fairly certain that you can't play any bonus stage that contains a picture for a world you haven't unlocked yet either. So yeah, they had their bases covered there, old Rare.

    The beginning portion up until 4:15 was in fact scripted due to it being the informative part of what Stop N' Swop really was. The rest was unscripted because this is a part of my Let's Play of the game which are NEVER scripted which is why I stumbled my words a bit like any normal person would do and just add to the wholesomeness of the video. Didn't try to sound like a smart ass before, just pointed out the fact that people still appreciate and like the video even due to these minor flaws.

    Perhaps you can help me: I played Banjo Kazooie in Xbox and googling a lot in internet I ve found two things: in order to get the ICE KEY you have to get the 100 jiggies (thats what Mumbo tells you once you achieved that) but I ve also found that you can get the ICE KEY by using the code: "CHEAT NOW YOU CAN SEE A NICE KEY WHICH YOU CAN HAVE FOR FREE".
    HOWEVER, I still can't get the ice key! can u help me please?

    @SuperChortles I don't think it works that way since all the Banjo-Kazooie cartridges were geared towards the newer N64 system resulting in the Stop 'N' Swop to never fully perform up to it's original expectations.

    @YankeeGamer5 thank you very much. It sucks they never used it for the first one. Still leaves so much mystery as to what their full intentions were. Lol. But this video was very helpful with many questions I had. Great work.

    The demo does not show the pink egg in the 360 version due to falling off,and having the same input as the N64 version,which did not fall off and actually collected the egg.

    @az1993productions And as for the Ice Key. In Banjo-Tooie, it is possible to obtain the Ice Key without the use of cheats. In the Jinjo Village, just to the right of the entrance, there is a small icy cavern which can be accessed using the Grip Grab ability. There is a Banjo-Kazooie Game Pak inside which will yield the precious Ice Key when it is destroyed. The Ice Key from Banjo-Kazooie turned out to be completely useless once more and no one knows of it's original purpose to this day.

    They should have made you save to the memory pack in the first game and then read the save from the expansion pak in Tooie?

      I mean in hindsight that would have been the way to do it. But when they made Banjo-Kazooie they had no idea about the hardware revisions, and when they did hear about them it was too late.

    In Super Mario RPG, when the game first came out, I was about 7. But in Monstro Town's Dojo, we swear that there was a room on the right corner that you could enter, were it said you need a "shovel" item too pass though. It asked us for it, and some how, we already had it. We enter and it looked a bit like Mole Ville Mines. We also had another location on the world map, above Smithy's Factory, were the purple clouds are. I would guess its Star Road. We entered it, and its was all purple.

    When I researched this game online it gave two different North American release dates, May 31, 1998 and June 30, 1998. Also when you type in the question "When was Banjo-Kazooie released? on Google, in big bold letters it says May 31, 1998 so who knows.

    I have bothBanjo Kazooie & Banjo Tooie on my xbox arcade. The prizes you get in Tooie are:
    1: Cheat spell: Homing
    2: Breegull Bash Ability
    3: Jinjo as a multiplayer character
    4: A Gamer Picture.
    5: A new dash board theme.
    6: A Mega Glowblow/Dragon Koozie Transformation.
    7: Lastly, you get an item for Stop 'n' Swap II used for Banjo Nuts 'n' Bolts. ["achievement": Oh no, not again...]
    I have no idea what the Stop 'n' Swap II eggs do in Nuts 'n' Bolts. But personally I really disappointed.

    Stop and Swap works on XBox Live Arcade.
    At least Microsoft made one thing work well in Rare.
