Most people that create a company tend to be able to push out a smile even during despair. A lot of people that I know, that are CEOs of their respective companies don't see profit until after perhaps... two-three years. And then they spend perhaps 70h a week on managing the company. So, running a company is a hell of a lot of work for small/medium companies. Bigger companies, aka a lot of employees and a bit of surplus profit? Those CEOs can essentially lean back and relax. Because they just assign others, VD etc. to do the work for them. But not a lot of people... reach that level of Profit. Unless they are essentially part of a elite group of companies. *Cough* Google, Microsoft, Apple to mention a few.
From someone who also works in production, and has experience with scheduling problems all the time, the real secret sauce to LMG is company morale. The fact that Alex volunteered as tribute for WAN show speaks volumes to the quality of teammates and leadership LMG has. Well done, TV Networks can learn a thing or two from your example.
i think one thing that i can see at least from what LTT is trying to portray themselves is that they bond together by being buds and not exploiting the fact that they're bud (as much). So when shit hits the fan it feels like you're doing a solid for your bro rather than being the disposable guy that get thrown off when the boss is burnt up. a lot of organisation that have somewhat similar bonding/passion abuse it and make people cynical about the whole thing

So you hire a "handyman" to help you, but you realize that you can now add an attached garage to the shed. Well, a few days later you realize that's too much work so you hire 2 laborers. Now that you hired 2 laborers and works getting done faster, you decide to finish out the interior of the shed (drywall, insulation, a.c.). So now you hire your friend that is an HVAC contractor and your friend that is a trim carpenter. Well, now you realize that this went from a $12k job to a $45k job. Now you need to recoup some of that money and you decide to make it a full mother-in-law suite with an attached garage, so you can rent it out, which will bring the cost up to $80k. Well, you're back at square 1. You don't have your shed/shop, you're out the $80k, and you're relying on rent money. No wonder the quality is tanking. Stressed out Linus is entertaining to watch though, for moments like punching the wall in in this video or when he broke his cameraman's bed.
Linus is able to put enthusiasm in his voice even after so much stress and work for us guys is legendary, Damn James you are the superman of management
Yah, and I don't think Linus' enthusiasm is purely just an act. I think he is, in fact, that hyped about tech all the time.
And Ed! dont forget Ed
I'd be barking and biting people at this stage.
Beyond the scheduling and setup stuff, the thing I'm most impressed by is the fact that Linus can be "On" for all of the videos involving him. You can tell he's stressed out beyond all belief, but somehow he still manages to keep a chipper, enthusiastic face for all of his videos so you'd never know it just by watching them. Golf clap, gold star, laurels and confetti to the man.
I’m sure for him it’s like using your “announcer voice” over the PA or responding to official phone calls. It’s a “mode” many people learn to turn on and off, regardless of how their day is going. I just hope Linus doesn’t get totally burnt out from all of this.

My takeaway: whatever you pay James, he deserves a good raise.
he probably made a LOT of money.
He must be making $1M a year at least. Even TommyInnit, a 17 yo minecraft youtuber makes $1M+ a year.
If he makes $1m a year then why would he need a 5k Intel home thingy to get the sound thingy he wanted. He’d already have it. You can’t compare one member of the LTT team to a single TH-camr, it would be more accurate to compare the LTT channel as a whole to the other TH-camr channel.
My takeaway is that he is banned on Twitter.
@@everyone503 With a company like this, there's a lot more overhead, especially in the tech space, where a lot more materials are needed. My guess would be that most of the management is making low six figures, and the staff is making higher five figures.

It's a poor way to manage a company long-term. He needs to delegate more of his responsibilities. They also control the number of videos they have to produce. They set the bar too high and ultimately it results in too much stress for the employees and the owner as well. They could do 15 videos and have slightly lower profits... ultimately it sucks to come home at 7:30 pm on Friday and get back to work for two hours. Poor life decisions for more money.

@@ExySmexy he just creates another channel (Carpool Critics and Mac Address) when he hires more employees. Everyone they've hired more employees because of these same problems (actually the hiring is most likely Yvonne's doing, not Linus'), they have just increased the workload. Imagine you wanting to build a shed in your backyard, and a few days in you realize you can't do it on your own. You may have earned equity in the house, akin to Linus building brand equity, but it doesn't really change anything.
@@xenonram your analogy has the spirit but falls off, they aren't blindly hiring bodies they're hiring personnel with large return on investment. James looks like he runs LMG. Unofficially of course.
That's generally how it works when any organization gets large enough.
Take the US Presidency for example (doesn't matter which one, or which party). The President is technically in charge, but in reality the Chief of Staff is really the one doing all the day to day decisions because they set the schedule. Much like James here, a chief of staff is the one who tells all the relevant parties where to be and when, decides who is in the room during each and every meeting, etc, etc. Meanwhile the President (or Linus in this case) is so busy being the face man for the camera and are involved in so many things that they are more than happy to let their assistants take care of all the small daily decisions.
@@trapical Ik that. What I meant was out of all the other employees, James looks like he does this job.
@@trapical You missed out that the leader (CEO/president) has to make the final decision on major decisions and then take responsibility for them.
I'm curious where Nick Light enters the picture. He's the COO and that position is usually the right-hand-man of the CEO.
@@dtemp132 He talks about it a bit in the last tour video. Essentially Nick can be that senior executive decision maker when Linus can't be there. The biggest thing is Nick kind of oversees the entire business and marketing wing of the company so Linus can focus more on the production side.
