Just a good ol' boy born and raised in Alberta, Canada, I’m the proud owner of this 1979 Peterbilt 359 rescued after it was left for dead in a farmer’s field.
Originally used for hauling heavy equipment in the Alberta oil fields, my Pete later ended up pulling a gravel belly dump b-train until it was eventually “retired” to haul the occasional hay bale load for local farmers before being parked in a field near the owner’s home near Mundare.
In the late 90’s I learned the art of trucking from my cousin driving an almost identical 359. I went on to become a mechanical engineer working for a large international corporation but all the while never losing my love for classic trucks and always had my sights set on a twin stick 359.
After placing an ad on Kijiji looking for one, I was contacted almost immediately by the owner of a Pete with a 6x4 Spicer who was very surprised that anyone would want a two-stick transmission. I went out to see the truck that weekend and ended up buying it “as is/where is” (see Season 1 episode 1). I ended up mounting new tires and wheels on the front and had it towed home.
Powered by a Caterpillar 3406A, it has a deep reduction plus Spicer 6x4 double overdrive transmission. The tractor is all original but unfortunately suffered from generations of mice growing up in the interior while it was idle.
I’m currently in the process of restoring this Pete and plan to use it primarily for personal use when finished. I’m looking forward to driving it to shows or the lake with my 5th wheel camper in tow.
I’m not planning a “full classic resto,” but rather a “make it as nice as possible” and as close to original as I can. Planned upgrades include a drop visor, 8-inch straight pipe miter stacks w/pickett elbows, new Bostrom low rider seats, upgraded sleeper, new interior, Texas Blade front bumper, chrome air cleaners, polished tanks and wheels, lots of lights, train horns, classic dual round headlights, and a new paint job in Peterbilt Sovereign Blue with Seminole stripes.
My backyard DIY outdoor restoration of this classic truck in the sun, rain, snow and wind is currently being fully V-logged on TH-cam … checkout “359Twinsticks” to see them all / @twinstix
Always nice hearing an engine that hasn't ran for years roaring back to life.
I like the satisfactory "YEAHHH!!!" right after it starts. lol. Nice sounding CAT.
MichaelTJD60 lmao you heard that too?
Yeah, I had to rewind the video to make sure I heard him correctly. lol
El chasis original de camións tiene mucho valor con los hongos pies originales💰 cultivó vale mucho dinero toma su comentario
That's right on! Need to let the emotions speak! :-D Yeaahh!
me too, oh yeah....way to go
I like this guy he just takes his time and does bit by bit . His videos are very satisfying to watch
Who in this world would give thumb down to such a satisfactory video? ( maybe a divorced trucker’s exwife).
3406 are great engines.
drive-safe or girlfriend
Or a divorced trucker that lost his truck in the divorce.lol.
new breed auto shift volvo drivers probably..
I don't like these videos because there is no doing, just showing what he has done. I'm used to looking at stuff being done, less talking, and this is just about 100% talking and showing what he's done.

Can't beat those old mechanical motors
👍👌👏 Yeah, that was a great moment for sure! Still brings tears to my eyes (although I'm watching the whole series for the 3rd/4th time now).
Best regards luck and health.
I can say from experience that feeling when you hear that sweet sound of the engine firing up on whatever project you have, man you may as well have won the lottery. Haha with every project I’ve ever undertaken it’s always been that boost for me to keep fixing it up and keep finding more and more little things to fix until it’s perfect. Damn nice truck and I’m very glad that someone took the time money and effort to revive that old girl, she’ll be a strong runner for many years to come! Cat, Detroit, Cummins, etc. if it was built back before all this electronic interference and emissions crap, you can always bet you’ve got a great engine. Personally I’m a Cummins and Detroit guy but I’ve got nothing against cat whatsoever! Those old 3408/6s are a badass engine and damn reliable too! Great job man
Awesome sound love the Old trucks
Congrats dude...thats music baby!!!
Back to the start . Just finishing rewatching the snowman truck videos
Man!! I know you were a happy son of a gun when she busted off. That’s a damn good feeling. Great find there. Just brought home a 79 359 myself and getting ready to bust her off.
Great to hear the ol' Pete slowly rumble back to life! I'm hooked for life.
She was eager to come back to life 😌
GLORIOUS sound hearing a 3406 coming back to life EXCELLENT work sir
Its a thing of beauty and god himself would be giving it a thumbs up, every truck loving guy/chick was cheering her on with every crank.
The TLC your giving this old beauty is amazing.......she deserves it. Loved to hear it come to life.
Please , keep the videos coming. ( from a fellow Canadian)
The glory scream when it finally held an idle was great!
Best part of the video was when you yelled “Yeah!” Lol
IT RUNS!!!!! nOW THATS A THING OF BEAUTY!!! Great job!!
In 1984 I visited the Oakland factory (when my truck was built) and there were literally dozens of these 359s parked outside in neat rows, including mine. All of them were brand new and to this day I still have mine. Love the 359 and always will. Keep'em Rolling!
The old spirit just lifted of that truck
Started watching the first video and got the here, yes, now I'm hooked. Glad to hear it start up! Keep up the good work!

Watching you get this thing running made my day.
It's hard to kill a 3406. I drove and ran them in equipment and that are S T R O N G !
First start in 10 years. And its dead cold outside. And it fired up that easy and ran that good. Those things were made to last.

In California, you could probably be arrested for starting that engine. LOL
By The Sea Aspirin Shop 😂 no kidding
Same here in Scotland 🏴 what's our world coming too. Long live big diesal s

I think I was just as excited as you when it started, just found you last night, already watched the whole series!!
Dang, it was very cool to her the old girl fire up, nicely done1
Wow! It started up pretty easy after so many years...and it sounded good too. "YEAAAH!" is exactly right, I think that I yelled it with ya heh, heh. Well, I binge watched up to this point and subbed, but I've gotta go so I'll catch up later today. I dig how ya had an extinguisher on the step, ready just in case, good stuff. ................................PEACE!!
I love the yeh when de engine start yehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh top
Love watching these videos
3406 b best truck engine ever made
hi by agreed the 3406 is by far the best ... wish they’d start making them again. This one actually predates the B block and is the original A block. You can tell as the fuel injection pump is back by towards the firewall whereas the B has it closer to the front of the engine.
yes my bad i see that now, also i believe the A uses a coolent cooled air to air instead of a air cooled air to air
nice job !!! getting it started keep up the great work.
I'm SO looking forward to following along on this project!!
I feel like after the old school rides starting dieing out that's when the industry hit a downfall! Nice Legend there driver
Nothing runs like a 3406

Very nice:-)
Listen 2 it purr😁👍
I got great satisfaction in hearing you scream yeaaaahhhh
I grew up in the cab of a '78 359 that my grandfather bought brand new in 78. This is absolutely awesome seeing this old girl come back to life. My grandpa's truck is still on the road to this day with over 3 million miles on it doing local sand delivery (although now it's a 10 wheeler and no longer has the exact original paint scheme. American Samoa I believe it was called). Can't wait to see the rest of the progress on this old girl!
NICE cat
3406 kitty pur pur pur.
HELL FRICKN YEAH BROTHER
Sooooo cool! I love those trucks. To bad you don't see a lot of them here in germany. Please keep up the good work and uploading videos of it. Looking forward for more.^^

DAMN LISTEN TO THAT OLD CAT
Good
"it's alive, it's alive"🚛
This is proof that CAT's have 9 lives. LOL
Can't kill a CAT!
359 Trucking ain’t that the truth ... I was just a little worried about the rack sticking after all that time and having this vid become a wild runaway ... you see I had a board all ready to go to snuff out the turbo JIC ... funny that the key actually wouldn’t turn it off after I stopped filming ... shut off solenoid was stuck so I had to put it in gear to shut her down 😆
359 TwinSticks, holy crap!
They have 9 lives bud
Wow me paresio ver un lindo gatito sounds great that cat
Big difference when you wake up a Kitty Cat over a Cumapart aint it when they beem sleeping 8 or 10 years .
YEAHHH
