    Anakin didn't ALWAYS think the Jedi were flawed he genuinely believed in them as a child and as a padawan but as he grew older he became more suspicious of the Council's true nature, considering his master was on the council and he was considered the "chosen one" it would only make sense that he spent a lot of time among them. He devoted his entire life to an ideology and creed that he truly believed in, he practically hated himself because of his actions on Tatooine knowing full well that it wasn't the Jedi way and it would forever scar him as a flawed Jedi. Though due to their questionable decisions in times of war Anakin himself grew suspicious of the council itself which was only compounded by the conferences with Chancellor Palpatine who clearly knew way more than the Jedi thought he did.
    Essentially Anakin/Vader was screwed from the start and it was the Jedi that caused him to completely lose all faith in the Order. His story is truly tragic.

      @@wnerko7484 Revenge of the SIth was made like 15 years ago.
      Nobody is making Vader 'out to be a good guy' but the point in Anakin's story is that its a tragedy. Tragedy is a genre that has existed sense ancient times, and the story-line is always meant to revolve around is a good and virtuous character who falls. This is nothing new. Hamlet, Othello, King Lear are all example of tragic heroes.
      Anakin's fall is all the more tragic for the fact that he really did believe in the Jedi ideology and teachings at one point. He could have been the model Jedi, but various factor contributed to his fall. It wasn't just Palpatine. Even Jedi characters themselves say they were blinded by their own arrogance and pride.

      What if Anakin couldn't kill the younglings?
      Think about it: "Anakin, now Darth Vader, ignited his lightsaber. The younglings flinched. He could not breathe, they stood no chance against him. They were not Battle Droids or the traitorous Jedi, they were children. He thought of Padmé: they were soon to have a child of their own-the thought of killing a child and alienating her was too much. It would haunt him for the rest of his life, like a shadow. He closed his eyes, thinking carefully about his next move."

    It is not hard to see how the Clone Wars in particular changed the Jedi order. There are several episodes in the Clone War tv series where you can see this is the case, especially with Jedi apprentices. The first example is Ahsoka Tano, who obviously still being quite young is a trusted commander in the Clone Wars, you can see many times when she gets an little battle frenzied and uses methods quite the opposite of what most Jedi would use. The second, is the episode where Kit Fisto, his old Padawan and a squad of clones is trapped in Grievous's lair by Count Dooku. You can see how blood thirsty his old Padawan has become and how much hatred he holds for Grievous. The last best example I can think of is the epsiodes where the Jedi temple was bombed, you can see how the Jedi council treats it more like a witch hunt and was quite over zealous when they sentenced Ahsoka for the crime without having all the facts. It would be pretty interesting to see how the Jedi order would have turned out if the Clone wars dragged on longer than it had. It could have very well gotten to the point where the Jedi would have been demonized by the galaxy and considered to be a new Sith order by some.

      Ashoka may be a good example of why you should not put kids in active combat. They may be excellent fighters on a physical level, they may even be good leaders but they are not fully prepared for the mental and psychological consequences of warfare (I think its been scientifically proven that their brains are not actually developed enough).
      I think as you say, the Jedi themselves were also poorly equipped and prepared to be war leaders and commanders. All out war tends to result in feelings of hatred for the enemy. In a desire to destroy them without mercy. In a way, I think TCW series adds a lot of much-needed context to Revenge of the Sith. Its a shame the former wasn't made when the latter was released.

      @William Drake Not to mention Tattooine. Billions living in slavery, and bears mentioning what they did on Kalee. That's more in legends though. There were a lot of people in the Galaxy who had no love for the Republic or the Jedi, and their reasons had nothing to do with the Sith.

    • @loudboy317
      @loudboy317 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @William Drake
      The Jedi don't have jurisdiction to help those planets because they're not recognized by the republic. As a result, Qui-Gon and Obi-wan's mission on Naboo was top secret and it's also why Obi-wan went to Mandalore by himself to rescue Satine.

  • @jcdenton7261
    @jcdenton7261 7 ปีที่แล้ว +369

    what i never understood is anakin turns to the dark side because the jedi have lost their way. You know, being more militant and less peace-keeping, not giving fair trials, having no mercy etc. etc. yet when he becomes vader he does the exact same things. Its always bugged me that he feels remorse for killing dooku and kills mace for not letting palpatine stand trial but vader slaughtered 100s of jedi and younglings and seperatist leaders without trial or even letting them speak.

    • @18Krieger
      @18Krieger 7 ปีที่แล้ว +163

      At that point Anakin was already broken and driven mad. Anakin was a quite idealistic thinking guy. He saw the Jedi and the Republic as the force of good and order. All this started to crumble as he got older and learned more about the Republic and the Jedi. His emotions and the war played a big role in that. Basicly Anakin lost nearly everything. What do you think was Anakins view regarding the Clones? Anakin was a slave and the Clones were too. The Jedi and Republic using them. Palpatine played him the right way. Anakin wanted to do the right thing and protect that what was important to him. Padme, the Republic (peace and order) and the Jedi. Problem was that the Republic was corrupt in his eyes and the Jedi seemed to be too. During Order 66 Anakin might not be fully convinced that the Jedi were all evil but he had ne choice if he wanted to save his life, that of Padme and to end the war.
      He feeled remorse for everthing he did but got convinced more and more that the Jedi were bad. At a certain point there was a point of no return for him. Still he feeled bad for all the horrible things he did.

      If Ahsoka had not left there was a chance she could have aided Anakin in seeing the "gray" point-of-view as she was done in by their hypocrisy.

    • @18Krieger
      @18Krieger 7 ปีที่แล้ว +87

      The best thing would have been if Obi and Ahsoka simply talked with him about Padme. That might have changed everything.

    • @jcdenton7261
      @jcdenton7261 7 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Yea the senate was corrupt, but palpatine is the senate haha. Also he slaughtered all the younglings before padme died so i dont see why he had so much rage. I know he saw the jedi as evil but the younglings were not yet jedi, they could be changed. Surely clone wars anakin could of seen this. Plus he cared about individual clones lives. It just never made sense to me how 1 minute hes fine and the next minute hes full rage berzerker just cuz mace windu wanted to kill sidious (and surely anakin whos felt force lightning 1st hand would know how darksided it is) so he goes from wanting to save an 'innocent' who is obviously evil to slaughtering dozens of children who like you said were esentially slaves. I can understand all his anger after padme dying but before? it just never clicked for me

    • @ZeStreD
      @ZeStreD 7 ปีที่แล้ว +60

      He had remorse for what he did to Dooku and Windu because he wanted to be a proper jedi and not what he felt the council was creating. He carried out the jedi massacre for Padme NOT due to his morals. He knew what he was doing was evil that is why he cries on Mustafar, he did it because he wanted to save Padme and that was worth slaughtering people and abandoning the morals he once criticized the council for not upholding.

      kill star Yoda said that they would give them trial once the war ended. Better than the Jedi just killing the prisoners.
      I agree with the Jedi's decision. Drastic times call for drastic measures. Had the Jedi collaberated with the Republic, Palpatine may have been able to influence what happened with the prisoners. I don't think that was is out of the realm of possibility. But I dunno tho.

    That’s really cool, just today I finished Kingdom Comr, a DC graphic novel where the superheroes are old, and the new generation of heroes are acting out so they have to build a giant gulag - rehabilitation / prison. The same theme comes up here.
    Definitely a moral dilemma / paradox to chew on: when you’re trying to enforce good you have to imprison people deemed bad, but that is a bad thing to do.
    Shades of Grey, nah the Jedi had lost their way completely, cozying up to their position of power and influence, become corrupted.

  • @benl.5082
    @benl.5082 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Yes! I really hope they'll bring this back into canon, not the "Darth Vader saved Palpatine" part but the scene you mentioned in this video. I do think he always suspected the Jedi believed in "the gray side" and that's why he feels so much anger towards the Jedi in Ep. 3 and why he now thinks they are evil. For years he's been told the Jedi were good, he was told to rigorously follow the Jedi doctrine, to repress his feelings and emotions, not feel any attachment and Anakin gradually begins to learn that as soon as he turned his back everyone was doing the opposite. No wonder he felt betrayed, cheated and believed people were unfair to him. From the day he spoke with Palpatine at the opera he really began to see the Jedi hypocrisy. He believed in the same justice for everyone (fair trials), he truly wanted to do good. Yes he killed the younglings, but only because he had to to strongly connect to the dark side and save Padmé. I absolutely loved the prequels but I sure wish there were more scenes like this in them, they would have been epic.
    Fuck the Han Solo movie, ain't nobody got time for that! But seriously I gota bad feeling about it: it won't be good, and I mean I don't think it is a necessary movie. I get it Disney wants to focus on the OT which is fair but they will completely ignore the "before Ep. 4-5-6" part of the Star Wars universe and it makes me sad. I want to see an Obi Wan movie in the years between the prequels and the OT and a Darth Vader movie during this same time period and the story is the one you talk about in the video instead.
    There are 2 things I think Disney doesn't realise. 1- people liked Han Solo because Harisson Ford was great in this role. If it was any other actor I don't think the character would be as loved as he is. 2- just because some people disliked the prequels it doesn't mean they can't work with the prequel era stuff and make those movies better without even having to touch any of them.

    Are you still going to make a video about Vader's lightning? I hope so. Because I believe the lightning he used here is the power called Kinetite or restrained energy globe. He once used it against Luke Skywalker in another comic. But there is a problem. It is said in The Rise and Fall of Darth Vader that Vader could only use this power through his close proximity to a Kaiburr crystal which allowed him to summon Force energized lightning. While Pablo Hidalgo explained in Star Wars Insider Magazine, Issue 80 that "It is possible it is not even a result of a Force power at all but rather a device that Vader built into his suit." I'm confused. (Sorry for my bad english.)

    The Jedi screwed Anakin over

  • @evm0090
    @evm0090 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Why are the Jedi always looked down upon, let's compare.
    Jedi: beaurocratic, slightly corrupt order turned war generals for the democratic republic
    Sith: runs oppressive authoritarian empire. Just kinda ridiculas that some could actually be morally conflicted in the light or dark side.

    • @englishlady9797
      @englishlady9797 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They weren't "slightly" corrupt. The Jedi had a nasty habit of either covering up or brushing the crimes of their members under the proverbial carpet. That included mass murder. They were like a religious cult who refused to allow their members to be handed over to the civil authorities for punishment.
      Nor were they simply "war generals for a Democratic Republic". They effectively became enforcers for the will of a thoroughly corrupt and amoral Republic. In the EU they are sent to side with Colonizers fighting a war against a species whose home planet they invaded and they had been enslaving. The Jedi literally backed colonizers and enslavers, and then placed sanctions on the original enslaved race leading many of them to starve to death.
      During the Clone Wars series, certain characters also ask why entire planets and their millions of inhabitants were abandoned and ignored simply because they were not formally part of the Republic. On Tattoonine millions were left in slavery and oppression, others were rendered virtually inhabitable by destructive internal conflicts.
      That was a direct result of them being lap dogs of the Republic. Democracy is a fine thing, until the will of the people demands you do something wrong.
