I find it somewhat surprising that Vader didn't take this opportunity to kill the man who had played him from the very beginning. Perfect opportunity and yet he saved him. Sure, Sidious lives on since he's canonically protected but it makes me wonder what would've happened if he had died in this story arc

As awesome as this Legends story is, I believe the best reason for it not being canon anymore is mostly because knowing Vader and how he secretly planned to overthrow the Emperor, he would've let Palpatine die.
I read this comic a few years ago, and it was an extremely fun read. the arc involving the young imperial was the meat of the story in my eye's . slight spoiler for Tractha: if Vader killed him then, it would had saved him headache later. But at the end of this storyline you see the seeds planted for his later actions. nice upload dude

Based on how the sith is concerning their ego I suppose it was partially that. But I believe it was more because the sith only betray sir masters when they have learned everything from them, and believe they are strong and no longer requires a master. That's why the sith got so strong, they didn't just kill their master a when chance showed itself, only after they surpassed the master
