Followed your guide on installing Batocera, the lastest update does make it better. I didn't understand the bios files in your instructions at first, but then you had that other video that explained it, making it a breeze. What led me down this route initially was the problems i was encountering with Anbernic's stock OS, while it was alright it seemed a bit flaky at times. The OS seemed to corrupt after use here and there, and I was in contstant need of reimaging. I may for kicks try muOS at some point, but for now Batocera is looking promising, even better now that it loads a little quicker. But anyway, thanks for the helpful guide!
I am new to all this. I did not know which system to go with, so I bought both RG35xx Plus and RG35xx H. I was able to swap the CFW from stock to V40 thanks to your video. Also, I was trying to find out the largest micro SD I am able to use on both RG35xx Plus and RG35xx H. So far I've been using a SanDisk Ultra 512GB. It works great. No problems yet.
I still don't get the pros about changing from stock ware. Stockware already has Hdmi, Bluetooth, Wifi and Sleep Mode function. Booting times are also better than Batocera. I am not trying to hate, I am just being curious about why I should change from Stockware.
same, i don't understand the urgency to change the stock but with batocera the psp runs worse than the stock system or that's what I have seen in reviews
I have Koriki on my 35XX H and despite the flaws it currently has, I really like it. v40 also has Dreamcast performance improved pretty drastically compared to when Koriki first dropped. On top of further needed updates, I hope the community cooks up more themes that are geared for the +/H...a good amount of the themes currently available look kinda small and if downscaled, looks pretty bad.
I really really love using the emulation station frontend on batocera, but the boot times and the battery drain in sleep mode is too rough for a daily driver. I decided to run MUos, so quick to boot and the sleep mode works well also! We'll see how things develop in the future, I'd like to give batocera another shot.
Ok, do you prefer to use a larger single microSD card, or getting a smaller microSD for the OS, then a 2nd microSD for rom storage? I'm preferring the latter in case I want to go between multiple devices, but clicking on multiple videos to see recommendations.
I noticed that ArkOS and JelOS has significant battery drain in sleep mode. I like the QoL features of GarlicOS/OnionOS. In this case, is MuOS is more like GarlicOS/OnionOS, or is it also like ArkOS/JelOS?

I have two questions... one is you said the stock os is lacking. What are the reasons you went with the customer firmware. What do you get that you don't have with stock? Second, I have branded 32 gig and 256 gig cards lying around. I would like to put the OS on the small one, and the roms on the large one. The images are for 64Gig cards, however they don't have 64 gig worth of data within then. How would I got about doing this? Cheers
"just bad" isnt really an argument for not using stock. I still haven't seen a single person comment what "bad" actual means in this context. And immediately starting with "the draw back to this OS is slow/no output/bluetooth...." isn't really fair on stock.
Stock OS on Anbernic devices get a lot of bad press, and I don't mean that to say it's undeserving or anything but I agree with you about the "bad" labeling in the sense that I think "barebones" is probably a more accurate descriptor. You don't get the Fancy cover art, you don't get easily accessible system options, and they often lack search capability (though the H has this in the stock OS). Personally I prefer to use stock because that's what you get out of the box and it helps me to better evaluate what buyers get. But for others in my household, the stockOS is often not visually appealing, hard to navigate, or just not intuitive, so I guess that's what some people would describe as "bad".
I agree. I just got an rg35xx h a few weeks ago and the stock OS is totally fine. The new OS’s offer prettier visuals, and I really wanted to install it, but I learned they usually have bugs that won’t play certain games or systems. That’s just not worth the effort of switching over the OS.

Basically what I’m hearing is, the stock is way better than either of the other ones you mentioned, one loads super slow, and the other one is just retroarch, but lacks Bluetooth, and hdmi out. Interesting
MuOS does not lack HDMI out, at least not in the latest version, bluetooth will eventually be fully supported through updates. MuOS is only getting better and better, it already has features like port master for example and v11 is shaping up to be incredible. Both these frontends are a lot better than stock and are consistently being updated and improved.
It's a full kernel sleep, it won't save and shutdown like OnionOS does, but it sleeps in the same way. There's an option to boot right into a game on startup though and that's awesome.

I don't think anyone will like this answer, but it does make them for viable, although not viable enough for me over other options. I still grab my MM+ for a small vertical and for horizontal, there's a million options. Anbernic really did these devices no favors by releasing them in the state they did.
Hi Joey, when I plug my SD card back into my windows PC, my shared folder is completely empty. I do not see the list of files such as bios and roms like how they are listed in your video. I've been seeing some black lines tear on screen straightaway. They are there sometimes when I boot the console and some other times not but when they appear, the gaming experience is ruined, I've updated the stock OS to the latest version straightaway without backing up the already installed one, then I tried the one between the latest and the already installed one, with both ones I've been experiencing these tears. I wonder if installing a custom firmware could fix this. If anybody has any insight about this I am all ears.
on the dreamcast front, I actually recommend people play Legacy of Kain on dreamcast instead of PS1 on these devices. The ps1 version runs like absolute ass at 100% speed anyway. The dreamcast version is typically 60fps all the way through.
Sorry man, there´s some pieces missing in your review... From where do you get the 'Bios' folder? I just downloaded the ISO file following your step by step... Both Bios folders (PC and SD card) are empty here
BIOS files are never included in any custom firmware, you have to provide them yourself. This was a high level overview of both firmwares, not in depth.
My SD card is not showing up in file explorer after using Rufus with MuOS. I can see the drive in Minitool partition wizard but not in file explorer. Anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks for the easy vid, very much appreciated. my SD got corrupted trying to put a DC rom on the next day, when i try to reflash the SD i just see a 4gb usb (its a 128gb samsung microsd until its flashed) and no share folder. rufus will show its 12gb but in windows devices screreeen its 4gb - any ideas?
@@JoeysRetroHandhelds did that but no joy, after a lot of trial and error (and googling) i got it working, sort of - had to go through the ip address of the anbernic in file explorer to see the share folder. can transfer across via wifi so all good so far (in hope). thanks for getting back, much appreciated!
Until I play can PSP, Dreamcast, DS or N64 without big issues (or installation annoyances) on any other CFW I will keep using stock OS. The games on those systems are the reason I got a Plus. I think is better to stick to the original XX with Garlic if you're just gonna play the same systems and want a better OS experience.
That's a power issue. I wouldn't consider this device for PSP, DC or N64 (and stated in my reviews as well). There likely won't be any CFW that will make those possible with a good percentage of their catalogues as playable.
@@JoeysRetroHandhelds but many games are perfectly playable (if you don't mind things like aspect ratio on PSP). My honest question is, what's the point of upgrading to plus if you don't get to use that little extra power?
The last line is the exact point I usually make in a lot of my videos with the same power as this. There really isn't one. You'd want to get a device that does those perfectly (Retroid 2S) otherwise stick with a device that does up to PS1 (35XX, MM+ etc.) These devices that sit in the middle (35XX+/H/RK3566's) never made much sense to me nowadays, especially since they utilize frameskip and other hacks to get to those "playable" stages. But people like them! Just not for me and my recommendations personally.
@@JoeysRetroHandhelds yeah, that's a valid point. Although, it is great to be able to play some DC on the go, for example, on such a pocketable device.
N64 ,ps is just fine... dc needs frame skip and is OK... psp is meh... playable but not great.... I honestly haven't found a n64 game with lag except bond
I’m going to say that MU looks worse than the stock imo. List menus are so boring. Perhaps it works faster but I really don’t care much about that. I have a 556 and made ES-DE as my start up app. It looks great. When I get my H I’m putting Batocera.
Stock does not have wifi firmware updates and Pokemon can save on any firmware. If yours isn't saving, it's because you're using the stock roms, you should replace them.

Have a question, if i download a new update for rg35xxh, will my previous games work or i have to move around again????
Hey joey i am new in ur channel I already subscribed, I got my handheld 3G35xx plus and I want to know whats the best thing I should do please
I bought my own micro sd card, now how can I add roms? do u have a video?
and do I need more than 1 micro sd card? and also should I play on the preinstalled OS or change to these CFW...
and lastly do I need to remove the pre installed rooms or just adding my own rooms to my new sd card is enough? sorry I'm very new to this world
thanks a lot for ur help
Hey, sorry I don't have a video. You can format the SD card as FAT32 then insert it into slot 2 (slot 1 should have your OS card already) and it'll auto create the folders to add roms for you. I would suggest replacing the roms yes.
muOS: 🥱😴
Batocera: 😎❤️
Do either of these OS's have quick resume when shutting down and turning on like you see on garlic/Onion OS?
muOS has a form of it - you can select an option in settings to boot right into the previous game on startup.
Could you point me in the right direction on how to create the bootable sd card using Linux or Android, I just ordered an rg35xx h and want to be prepared for it when it arrives, don't have a windows pc just an android tablet and a laptop with Zorin Os, so not really sure what's the best way to create a batocera boot SD card using Zorin.
I just got one and the things confusing to me not sure how to download the roms 😅
so i have a 64 gb sd card and a 128SD GB CARD
but the 64sd i have the STOCK OS. on the 2nd sd I only have my own rooms
what should I do
can I use the 128gb to install Muos/batocera and rooms? all in 1?
or should I re flash the sd1 card (install muos/batocera remove stock os)
and on 2nd sd card just my rom games?
MUos has a new update and i want to try it but its gonna be my first time doing this
thanks bro
What i did is, i download batocera in extra sd card 32gb, i keep 64gb for stock os with roms. If i like the batocera, that is the time i will flash my 64gb and transfer all roms into it.
Do i only need one sd card or two cause i didn't understand
Can you install Batocera on 35xxh with portmaster? I want to play stardew valley
Can you please explain how to use Dreamcast and psp on the rg35xx plus as I cannot figure out how to switch between analog and dpad and cannot find a clear answer - if this OS can’t I’ll have to stick to the stock a bit longer :(
It’s a hardware issue with the dpad not being able to be registered as a analog stick
Retroarch options >options >settings input > change analogue to digital
I don’t have an option to extract the file (I’m not even sure what that does) please help?
What is the game played at 4:30? thanks
Adventure Island
know im a bit late to the party but can anyone give any input on the portability of the 35xx h vs the pocket flip??
ive been thinking about replacing my miyoo mini v3 with something like the 35xx h, but i already own a pocket flip and from what i can tell the footprint and weight of the pocket flip is very similar to the xx h but with the 5'' screen basically slapped on the front. is the size/weight of the pocket flip really significant over the xx h?
I've been seeing some black lines tear on screen straightaway. They are there sometimes when I boot the console and some other times not but when they appear, the gaming experience is ruined, I've updated the stock OS to the latest version straightaway without backing up the already installed one, then I tried the one between the latest and the already installed one, with both ones I've been experiencing these tears.
I wonder if installing a custom firmware could fix this. If anybody has any insight about this I am all ears.
Can you utilize dual as card method ?
Anyone tested and compared battery consumption on stock vs batocera? There’s a reason why the stock os is Anberni’s default os
Hi brother, does the wireless phone work on this system?
For some reason my shared file isn’t popping up anyone know why that may be?
How to use automatic fastforward on gmae boy advance
I like muOS boot time, but that's about all I like about it. I prefer the fancy schmancy graphics Batocera gives me.
Could u also Ppease do a setup video for RP2s..
You can use my Android setup guide, Odin 2 setup guide or Retroid Pocket 4 Pro setup guide.
All will work the same for the 2S.
Thanks will check it out
on the dreamcast front, I actually recommend people play Legacy of Kain on dreamcast instead of PS1 on these devices. The ps1 version runs like absolute ass at 100% speed anyway. The dreamcast version is typically 60fps all the way through.
I am not seeing the share partition, so what do I need to do to install BIOS files and such?
Windows didn't assign the drive letter then, you'll have to assign it yourself to that partition.
@@JoeysRetroHandhelds Thanks it's good now. Also, everything boots up but it said the "flash failed." Does that matter if everything boots up ok?
Tryed many times here and the only folders Batocera installed in the SD card with the rom is a 'boot' and a 'tools' folders
Assign a drive letter to the other partition.
@@JoeysRetroHandhelds just downloaded the V39 version and it worked normally
Sorry man, there´s some pieces missing in your review...
From where do you get the 'Bios' folder? I just downloaded the ISO file following your step by step...
Both Bios folders (PC and SD card) are empty here
BIOS files are never included in any custom firmware, you have to provide them yourself. This was a high level overview of both firmwares, not in depth.
My SD card is not showing up in file explorer after using Rufus with MuOS. I can see the drive in Minitool partition wizard but not in file explorer. Anyone know how to fix this?
Assign a drive letter.
Where i can find and download the games in it?
Wifi doesn't work on batacera so no box art on the 35xxh for me anyway
So we need 2 card on rg35xx plus ? No one card version ?
One is enough with Batocera. MuOS I didn't try
@@pomade34 MuOS also works with a single SD card
Thanks for the easy vid, very much appreciated. my SD got corrupted trying to put a DC rom on the next day, when i try to reflash the SD i just see a 4gb usb (its a 128gb samsung microsd until its flashed) and no share folder. rufus will show its 12gb but in windows devices screreeen its 4gb - any ideas?
Might not be understanding properly, but sounds like the partition isn't showing? Try windows disk management and assigning a drive letter.
❤
You'd want to get a device that does those perfectly (Retroid 2S) otherwise stick with a device that does up to PS1 (35XX, MM+ etc.)
These devices that sit in the middle (35XX+/H/RK3566's) never made much sense to me nowadays, especially since they utilize frameskip and other hacks to get to those "playable" stages.
But people like them! Just not for me and my recommendations personally.
@@JoeysRetroHandhelds yeah, that's a valid point. Although, it is great to be able to play some DC on the go, for example, on such a pocketable device.
Is the batocera still this slow to boot?
No, it's about half.
has anyone played Stardew Valley in the Portmaster option of the MUos?
Stardew doesn't work currently.
....My RG35XX H experience went from just ok to terrible After Plugging It Into HDMI....SAME with 3 different rgb30 powkiddy handhelds...
Question, will this work on the RG350?
Batocera turned my 128gb SD into a 4gb time to just deal with the standard os
I think the RG405V had better shit when it was on stock android
I heard it is good enough for N64 and Dreamcast, and even PSP it is good for 50% of games.
I personally wouldn't agree with that.
Without garlic, jelos(rocknix),arkos, amberelec anbernic linux device not worth your time or money
the Batocera v40 boot is much faster
Both are shit really shit. Stick with the stock
I put muos
I can't figure out which buttons to use to quit the game
Just wait for stock soft update. I prefer stock for save game in pokemon for example and wifi firmware update.
Stock does not have wifi firmware updates and Pokemon can save on any firmware. If yours isn't saving, it's because you're using the stock roms, you should replace them.
Anyone have an issue when you shutdown batocara it blacks out the screen but the device stays warm on the battery so I know it’s still on and 8hours later it’s stone dead tried on 2 different rg35xx plus and doesn’t have this problem with stock os. 128gb Samsung sd card
