as a mama who has lost a baby to sids, I highly disagree with many of the sleep related suggestions. I am admittedly a little overprotective but if you were in my shoes you'd understand. New moms should definitely do their research before using products such as weighted sleep sacks, swaddles for that long, the snuggle me for sleeping, and co-sleeping. THAT SAID All the other advice here is great. I still love the videos and will be back for more.
Yes! Even HeySleepyBaby and happycosleepy both say the snuggle me is not safe for sleep and not to swaddle if co-sleeping (and following the safe sleep 7)
I am so sorry for your loss. I strongly hope that all mommy influencers are aware of their influence on (new) parents and take responsibility accordingly. (For example: Over 1 in 3 parents have bought a baby sleep product they’ve seen on social media that goes against safer sleep advice, a survey by The Lullaby Trust finds. )
First and foremost, I am so sorry for your loss...that breaks my mama heart... Secondly, I agree with you very much, there are products that I've heard her recommend that are totally not safe for sleep... New mamas, please please please do your own research and take advice with a grain of salt!!!
Safe sleep practices include no swaddles after baby is able to roll over on their own and no blankets or items in the crib until after age 1. A mobile baby in a half swaddle can easily come out of the swaddle and be at risk of asphyxia if an adult doesn’t notice. Sleep sacks are a safer alternative for this interval.
While the SnuggleMe is nice to set baby in while you’re watching them, it is NOT safe for night time sleep. Parents please do not put ANYTHING extra in the crib/bassinet with your baby especially something padded. Also, if you choose to co sleep, please do not swaddle and follow the 7 steps to safe sleep. My advice as a mom of 4. Invest in your car seats, strollers, and baby mattress. Things I used with all 4 of my children: 1. Mamaroo 2. Burp cloths 3. Binky 4. Playmat 5. Swaddle blankets or halo swaddle sleepsack until they can roll and then a sleepsack after. AAP recommends no loose blankets until age 1. 6. Sound machine (hatch rest+ is what I recommend because if power goes out it lasts for 12 hours)
Weighted sleep sacks are thankfully no longer recommended for safe sleep. I never understood why I would put a WEIGHT on my little baby's delicate chest. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure even the AAP has updated their guidelines to say not to use weighted sleep sacks. Also the snuggle me, a suffocation risk that's easily avoided.
It's great to see what works for different families. It does bear mentioning though that at minimum, all you need for a baby is somewhere for them to sleep, something for them to wear, some way to transport them, some way to clean/change them, and some way to feed them. Babies needn't be expensive, we got almost everything we use secondhand, and we don't use a lot of the 'must-have' items. The ones that have been game-changing for us are double stroller (secondhand) and portable changing mat. The double stroller came with a bassinet option, which we use for downstairs naps. For nights, we have a secondhand next-to-me crib and replaced the mattress. Our cloth nappies are secondhand. Secondhand carrier and bouncer also get a lot of use. We do use sleep sacks as both kids wriggled out of muslin swaddles after about 6 weeks old. I just use my pre-baby backpack as a nappy bag, no need for a special one.
i'm in Canada as well and my second born, daughter, sleeps in the snuggleme (for now) just like my son did for a little bit. they can't roll over or move to their side at all. my babies love(d) the snuggleme until they became more mobile & would roll over to either their tummy to sleep or side. we also just started using sleepsacks for her but absolutely not weighted ones. i actually never heard of weighted ones until just now aside from the nested bean ones if that were to even count as a weighted sleepsack, i feel as though baby would struggle to move or if they're on their backs, struggle to breathe properly as well
Yall in the comments understand that safety recommendations / regulations differ from country to country right?? Also let’s just appreciate our intuitions and respect different preferences and opinions that don’t meet your understanding of a certain “safety measure.”
Cloth diapers are our must have item. We’re 36 weeks with baby 3 and cloth diapers have saved us so much money. They’re expensive, but a one time purchase that last forever if you care for them right.
I cannot for the life of me figure out why people are so scared of them. Especially is you ebf! I started when my first fit into all in ones and just got a newborn set for my second too!
I was introduced to them while working at a daycare. Finances made us consider them when expecting our first and now we’re on our third. We only do the all in ones with the snaps, but they’re so much more cost efficient than disposable.
It is crazy how must haves can differ because for me sleep sacks and the tub insert are 100% must haves! The sleep sacks are so cozy and don’t fall off (I keep the house a little chilly at night). We use them until our babies are toddlers! Also I just can’t shower holding a baby, for me it feels like holding a big bar of soap- they are so slippery! We love our baby tub!
I agree! We still use sleep sacks with my two year old. So much easier than a blanket that falls off! I also love the tub insert. I don’t always want to have a bath/ shower with my baby and laying them on the tub floor would be so tricky! I think it would really hurt my back bending down that far! Different things work for different people though!
Im currently 36 weeks pregnant & I just laugh at some of these overpriced baby products. I feel like companies really try to take advantage of families at this time , telling them they need stuff that they really don’t.
The companies make products but people fall for them lol. I think get what makes sense for you, for some, like me, my tastes don’t change much so getting the bookbag or a wrap/carrier that’ll last, even if a bit expensive, would be better than changing one with each kid. But it’s also hard to understand what your kid would like once they’re out in the world so I guess do your research and do what’s best for you and your family. Just bc influencers tell you to get something doesn’t mean you should. It’s our job to not be so easily influenced
Items I do use : - baby bath insert (one for newborns and one for when they can sit up but aren’t sturdy) - carriers - swaddle blankets (not the Velcro ones tho) - breastfeeding pillow - baby bouncer - baby saline mist spray and snot sucker - diapers and wipes - boobs
Watching your videos has changed my entire approach to adulthood. As a young adult, being brought up in the generation of anti-traditional roles, anti-religion and women being overlooked unless they want a career, you have been the mother I never had to show me 'the way'. Thanks to your videos, my marriage thrives so much more, and we feel happier than ever in our more traditional roles with me as a homemaker and SAHM. Every video shows me more and more what I want my family unit to look like and, most of all, FEEL like. Thank you so very much
I personally do love sleep sacks, but more so for winter time with older babies and toddlers. (Like 9 months or older). My kids kick off their blankets and get cold and our apartment isn’t insulated enough for the harsh winters we get. It’s peace of mind more than anything for me. I do love Halo’s fleece sleep sack swaddle though. My son loved being swaddle, my daughter hated it, and I used it a lot with both of the. That being said, I would never have purchased it new myself. It’s sooo expensive. My hospital actually gave it to me (they handed me a brand new one in its package to take home, so don’t worry, I didn’t steal it).
The items I didn’t use are : - a crib (haven’t used it except for as storage😂) - a bassinet (I ended up just using it as a nightstand) - a wipe warmer (was gifted 2 and have never even read the manual) - burp cloths (my baby never spits up) - washcloths (idk how but I accumulated around 50 of these and I don’t ever use them) - bottles - a baby swing (they’re expensive and bulky, a bouncer works just fine) - HER STROLLER (don’t get me wrong I’ve used it, but rarely, she rather be held and it’s big and a hassle to get out) - lotion, eczema stuff, cradle cap stuff, gas relief drops, etc (breast milk works great for a lot of stuff) - changing mat (always just changed her on the bed) - organic nipple butter (emphasis on organic, you don’t even have to wipe it off before feeding!) - diaper rash cream (never has had a diaper rash, but if it looked like she was going to I just used my organic nipple butter)
Yes, all my babies rolled around like crazy in their cots once they could roll so a sleep sack was necessary to keep them warm overnight. We live in a sub tropical climate so our houses aren't heated but in winter the temperature inside can drop below 10°C.
My son is 3 and we still use that exact tub from the thumbnail. We don’t have a tub in our bathroom so he still sits in it to prevent falls. I love how it is so inexpensive and it grew with him. If we had a tub I’m sure we would still use it as it is more secure and keeps him in place.
absolutely agree!! my son is about to be 2 next week & we still use our tub for babies, it was also the kind that grew with him! all we had to do was remove the mesh part once he could sit up and stay in place:)
I agree with many of these! I do think the Diaper Genie is a bit outdated, but I also think a diaper specific container of some sort is entirelyyyyy necessary. The Ubbi is amazing because you can use literally any bag you have in your home (we use regular garbage bags) and it traps the odor inside the can. Even taking the trash out daily does not keep the diapers from being super stinky, so that would be my only addition! :)
In my experience working as a nanny (before I had kids) I found that even the Ubbi releases a nasty smell into the room every time you open it. The smell of diapers that have been sitting for days like that is way worse than diapers in an open garbage that’s taken out daily in my opinion! Oh and also taking out a garbage bag full of week old diapers is smelly enough to fumigate the whole house. 🤢
Those burp cloths are 24 USD per piece 😵 amazon has muslin burp cloth packs of 10 for 25. Please don't go into debt for the sake of aestethics! Not hating on Dehlila, but that is definetly not something everyone can afford. I mean, a 100 bucks for 4 burp cloths??? Green mountain diaper has prefolds that work awesome as burp cloths for as low as 1.36 each. Or you can get organic white ones for 2.27 each
Diaper prefolds make FANTASTIC burp cloths, can confirm! And covers for car seats, swings, bouncers, etc. Anything you dont want to clean a blowout off!
Must haves: Guava Family Lotus Bassinet/Crib (used as main and travel bed) Infant Optics Camera Hatch Sound Machine Happiest Baby Swaddle (never could get the hang of non-velcro swaddling) Tommee Tippee Pacifiers Lovevery Play Mat
Only had one baby (so far), but these would be my must-haves: Haaka Silicone Pump Lots of burp clothes Breastfeeding pillow Portable changing mat Sleep sack (I'm just not good at swaddeling) A safe place for doing tummy time Babycarrier of some sort And lots and lots of love and patience ❤
Definitely the Haaka! She talks about it in other vlogs, she mustve forgotten this time. Though I'm really interested in the ladybug one, I haven't seen many people try it yet
@@jamiedebruin9863I’ve been using ladybug for the first weeks before my flow was regulated. It’s very comfortable as it fits in the bra and not too big to disturb my baby’s position.
Im pregnant with my 7th and my must have list gets smaller each time 😅 car seat, 10-12 footie sleepers, daipers, and boobs 😅 I will probably find a couple muslin blankets and reuse the same carrier ive used for all my babies and a nose frida. Thats it!
I thought a bassinet was going to be a MUST but my son would NOT lay in it. He would just cry and cry and cry. Then we'd start crying. He would only sleep in the bed next to us. Sleep sacks were an absolute must because it's so cold where we live and I couldn't put a blanket on him. I would layer him up and then put the sleep sack on last so he'd be toasty warm. Our woodstove keeps the rest of the house warm but I was paranoid about our cats so I'd keep our door shut.
What happened to night with a newborn vlog? I tried to watch last night and it was gone! 💭💕 Edit: Delilah said on insta it was uploaded accidentally before sponsor approval, and will hopefully be up on Friday instead!
None of my babies liked swaddling, they preferred their arms up and free. Even if I took the hands out, they would still wiggle out of it eventually. The sleeping sack worked better for us. They were secure, had enough room to move their feet in there and their hands were free. So my conclusion to each their own. I would agree on the boogers sucker though. 😊
So true! Not all babies enjoy a swaddle. My first absolutely hated it and would be angry until we would take it off. But he was like that with socks, hats etc too 😅 he was all about freedom! 😂 My second and third loved it. My fourth didnt really seem to care, but she would be cold so fast. I used 2 layers of warm clothes, and a hat, sleeping bag and warm blanket… plus i would leave on a electric heater at night. And she would still be cold!! 😮 Really all babies are different. Thats why i would never suggest to buy all these expensive things, but just give it some time to try with a cheaper version or second handed. In the end you will only use it for so long…
@@beans4853 i’m sure most babies will like it. They have been snuggled up tight for a long time inside our bellies, so it would make sense for them to feel more secure that way. My first is still very strong minded 😅 also wouldnt just lie down without being entertained (so going to sleep was a disaster), would not sit in the stroller or in the carseat, did not like to be held long. He just wanted to GO!! 🤣 even as a very small baby… some babies are just “different” 🤭
@@fh4595 sounds hard when they are little, but great for when they are grown up! I have 2 strong minded kids as well, very different than what you're describing, though. They both struggle with sleep, too
We use swaddles for the first few weeks and then use sleep sacks because blankets and loose bedding are a bigger risk of SIDS. I prefer to have a play pen to put baby down out of reach of older siblings if I can't watch them closely because I have heard that baby swings are not as good in terms of development. I have never used baby lotions, soap or shampoo, just water works fine. Even my older kids (4, 2) have almost never been washed with soap.
I'm team playpen/pack n play (with infant level to bring the mattress up higher) as a bedside sleep space; I have big babies and they would happily outgrow a bassinet by 6 weeks old, so the playpen lasts longer and is more versatile for us. The Kushies Bamboo Easy Nursing Pillow is a highly underrated nursing pillow option, especially for those of us that can really only breastfeed using the football hold (and bonus is that it's so small I literally take it everywhere with me for breastfeeding on the go). Portable sound machine, more than one carrier option, and Keekaroo change pad are my other must-have items.
For the changing pad, we got the padded one from Amazon for like $20 and then a set of like 4 pad covers to swap out when one gets dirty. The peanut pads are so pricey!!
I wanted the kekaroo peanut changer so much! It’s just really expensive…even used. If you’re not on a budget or plan on having more then one child it would be worth it. I was given a changing pad and table. & what I do,so I don’t have to wash the cover all the time, is put a soft cloth/thin receiving blanket on top of the cover. I was also given multiple covers so there’s that option too.
I love how every mama can be so different. Must haves for me newborn and continued to my 6M old: 1. swaddle sleep sacks (they have Velcro) I have a wiggly baby and regular swaddles didn’t work and also gave me anxiety. 2. Diaper genie, I don’t take out my trash every day and I feel like it keeps the smell in really well and is worth the money. 3. Glass bottles avent brand, I ended up having to formula feed and these bottles are so I nice for warming and staying warm. Also I just don’t like using plastic for food if I can help it so I really like that my baby is fed out of glass. 4. Badger Brand diaper rash cream. Seriously works like magic to ease a burnt rashie bottom. Clears it up within 24 hrs typically.
My youngest, of four, is 30 years old. I am amazed at all the helpful and practical baby supplies. I think your suggestions are very balanced. Useful but not over board😊
Your so right about babies being different my 1st 2 were full on co sleeping babies loved it my 3rd i could not figure out why she was 3 months and still not sleeping more then 30 minutes! She wanted her own space put her in her crib and she sleep for 4 hours my 3rd will not sleep anywere during the day unless i hold him but sleeps all night in his crib
I bought a bassinet as well but I ended up cosleeping with my baby more. She sleeps in her crib for daytime naps but at night she just likes to be close. I feel like there are just so many products out there that are made to believe are necessary but i just have never had the need for them. Also, coconut oil is a must. Came in super handy as nipple cream while breastfeeding as well as a moisturizer for baby.
I only have one child, so I love hearing about what works for every different babies and Mommas. I thought I would be a co-sleeping bassinet kind of Mama but my baby wanted nothing to do with it, lol! I remember about two weeks in, I tried putting him down for a nap in his crib in his room, and he did so well and I felt so much more relaxed. The bassinet quickly became a laundry magnet so I got rid of ASAP! We swaddled when he was newborn and then moved to sleep sacks, which were expensive but we found them used. He slept so well in them. We loved the Baby Shoosher too, almost no one mentions that and it was one of our must haves. I loved wearing my baby and miss that so bad. I agree the trash can works fine for diapers. And baby baths are a waste.
I love sleep sacks, I have many kinds for different seasons etc. We don't have boilers and central heating systems in Australia so having winter sleep sacks is soo good. My Kidd would never take dummies and I never swaddled them 😂 goes to show how different it is for everyone!
I agree, also living in Australia sleep sacks are a must have! No temperature controlled rooms in our house 😅 my first baby didn’t love being swaddled so I hardly ever bothered.
Pregnant with baby 3: I just always used a blanket for a changing mat and carseat cover, receiving blankets are great burp cloths. Looking forward to using a bedside sleeper and baby wrap this time.
Using blankets as carseat cover or for a stroller is very dangerous as it is not breathable fabric. Many babies died because it got too hot because of a regular blanket or because they ran out of oxygen
@@biancabosch5372 I guess I should've specified...I used loose knit blankets and draped them over the carseat handle just to walk from the house to car on very cold days.
I really enjoy your videos and your perspective and thank you for this video! But, i think you need a disclaimer that this is your personal opinion and that parents need to do their own research (I know this should be very obvious) but A LOT of your sleep preferences are actually considered dangerous and advised AGAINST. Fortunately you haven't had any issues (I assume), but there is definite risks for others who may blindly follow your 'advice'. For example, baby shouldn't sleep in the Snuggle Me (even the manufacture states it is unsafe for sleep), weighted blankets/sleep sacks are not recommended as they can cause breathing difficulties in some babies (linked to increase risk of SIDS), co-sleeping can be safe, but a lot of precautions need to be taken to ensure it remains safe or else it can easily become very dangerous for baby. A loose swaddle can potentially be harmful a) baby rolls and is unable to use the assistance of their legs to help roll back, b) swaddle comes loose and become a smothering risk. Absolutely nothing wrong with doing what works for your baby/family, but I caution people to PLEASE DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH before deciding what potential risks you are comfortable taking!
My baby most definitely needed a sleep sack. She broke out of swaddles. Did not like dummys (pacifier). And i found having a change table very useful. So they are very different
I always love these lists!! All of my babies have been so different First born: baby swing & ring sling Second born: Moses basket & snuggle me Third: toddler floor bed Things none of my babies ever used: Bottles Pacifiers Swaddles Socks or shoes Crib Baby tub (used it once with first then literally trashed it, I also shower/bathe with my babies & kids 🤷🏻♀️ it’s faster) Changing table or pad 😅I have the same one for all 3 kids and usually just change them in the floor
When asked by FTM for must haves I say: Car seat (I used to say convertible ones until baby 3 but the infant one is definitely a must sadly if you only have one baby splurge and get the like travel set that’s the car seat & stroller combo, I don’t have it but if recommend the same one mentioned in the video Uppa Baby Vista or the Evenflo Pivot Xpand) Diapers of some kind, I’ve used both cloth & disposables, it honestly depends on the kid. My oldest I clothed when she was older and mobile, my middle child was clothed from the day he came home from the hospital until he became mobile and my most recently has only worn cloth a handful of times she has a wetness sensitivity and nothing I do helps except disposables and even with them she can only wear 4 specific brands or she gets a huge rash Zipper footie pjs!! Just buy a handful in a few sizes and that’s all they need in the early months Lastly BOOBS 😂 I’d add a baby carrier in there but that’s major trial and error finding what your baby likes I’ve tried them all. First loved ring slings then buckle carrier until she was 3. My middle loved wraps then buckle carrier until he was 3. My youngest hates me worn no matter what carrier it is. But she loves being held and carried but don’t I dare try to put her in a carrier 😅
I never swaddled my babies, sleeping sacks and then sleeping bags with feet are what worked very well for us. We got a diaper genie for our first, but I agree it was a waste of money. Normal diapers went to our kitchen bin. Poo diapers directly in the big one outside. I used the tub insert for both kids, both the one for infants and then the one for babies who can sit, I found them very useful. Used a wrap for both babies, sling and carrier for the first one, the second loved the carrycoat that we used as a bassinet for the naps. I bought a next to me crib, but both kids preferred to co-sleep with me. I got a cot for free but also that didn't work. I guess our bed is cosier 😂
Must haves for us: A swing Rocking chair Velcro swaddles Nursing pads Bedside bassinet (I thought I would like cosleeping but didn’t) Lovevery play gym Baby bjorn carrier Two things I thought my baby would love but he hated: Solly baby wrap and snuggle me lounger
Currently pregnant with our second child and I love this videos. However, our baby loves sleeping in sleep sacks and absolutely hates being swaddled(she needs space for her legs ). Can’t wait for our new baby to arrive ❤️
My baby loves sleep sacks and hated being swaddled! To any expecting mom or new mom wanting to buy a sleep sack, seach for the extendable ones that can be used for more time and to buy a TOG that is appropriate for the climate.
I got it with my second and loved it so much, we bought the toddler version for my first born she was 4 at the time. I now have 3 kids and we still love them! We have 2 toddler and an infant one
Wish we would have invested in a double stroller with our first but didn’t get a nice amazing one until pregnancy with our 4th lol. Had it two years now and 100% had its money worth of use. We use it every single day. We love it.
thank you for making these videos, im looking forward to motherhood, it's nice to learn in advance. i LOVE the aesthetic of your house, minimal but quality wooden furniture and art. lots of love!
It is very interesting how different babies have different needs. One of my babies loved his pacifier for instance while my other two would spit it out and were uninterested. The pacifier user became a crazy thumb sucker and is paying for it with his braces, but oh well. We did our best. I agree with baby wraps. I didn't use one for only my first but could truly have used it. Baby wraps were hard to find then (16 years ago). I had a double stroller for my first two being close to age but I couldn't stand it!!! It was so needed though. It was just bulky. I have never used a booger picker but already realize it is needed. I do have the snot sucker and it is my first time using one and it is helpful. My firstborn was the only one who liked being swaddled. This one likes a sleep sack but we never had them before. He likes warmth. I also am not a purse person but use backpack diaper bags. Burp clothes really are vital. I'm so with you. I had a horrrrrrible nursing cover with my first, but nice ones for my second and third. This is my first time NOT having a swing, but my first two loved them. I probably should have bought one, but we're surviving. I've never heard of a peanut changer. I used a mini co-sleeper for my first two and a bassinet for this one and we do partial co-sleeping in bed too. I agree about diaper genie completely. A must have for older moms to help our aging backs is to have standing changing tables. I have a nice tall one that is a miracle worker. I used to just change my babies on the bed or floor but this has helped me as I'll be 40 next week. I think some people go overboard with the amount of things they get for babies. You have a practical and good list!! I love it. Mine is pretty basic too.
Absolut Must haves: Carrier Whool/Silk or cotton clothes Hakaa Wipeable Changing mat or table Silver nipple shields Nursing pads Swaddle with valcro Pure lanolin as nipple cream and butt cream
Delilah, THANK YOU! Been watching you since before Theo arrived. We’re the same age and my husband and I are officially 22 weeks with baby number 1! Sitting here perfecting my registry, pausing, searching, and adding as you go through each item. THANKS MAMA!💗
Would love to see what you keep in your diaper bag. I don't know how I would keep everything organized in that design of bag. It's the prettiest diaper bag I've ever seen but idk how I would make it functional
PSA: Coconut oil is not recommended to use on babies as is any lotions with food products in them. There is evidence that it can lead to allergies later on when they start eating solids. Obviously do your research and talk to your GP but yeah.
I barely discovered sleep sacks & this is my 3rd baby. We love em! Funny tho, I have several & the one you posted on your thumbnail is the only one we absolutely hate lol. I also never used our car seat cover or diaper genie.
To add: White noise can be great to use! But doesnt need any special equipment. One of my children would only sleep deeper with white noise. Without it she would just keep waking up. I just put my phone on airplane mode and heartbeat sound next to her.
Great list, especially for any first time Mom’s trying to figure out where to start. We’re about to have baby #3, and I would agree with everything on here, especially couldn’t live without the snuggle me, a bouncer, and the burp cloths. I end up using the burp cloths for sooo much more than I realized I would use them, even just use one in my nursing bra in the first few weeks when milk is still regulating, especially at nighttime.
Pregnant with my first baby and struggling to figure out what I need. I keep hoping to hear that I don’t need the $160 changing pad but everyone is recommending the keekaroo 😅 Helpful video!
I agreed with this almost qhole heartdly HOWEVER im a fan if sleep sacks only because ny son akways broke out of swaddles and slept better in a sack but thats just a small preference difference
I'm a ftm with a 7 week old and my must haves are swaddles, pacifier, swing, play mat, bassinet and dockatot those are items I use every single day. A few smaller things are an oball for learning to grip, b&w books, also touch and feel books. I just got comfortable enough to use a baby carrier too and it's been great for outings.
I cannot express how much this video makes me want to get pregnant again hahaha. We found that our little one loved sleep sacks, he would ALWAYS wiggle out of the swaddles and just get upset. We also bought the mummaroo (2nd hand) after hearing everyone say how much their babies loved it but mine hated it
I regret getting the cheap version of several things. Most of all, I wish we had gotten a Solly wrap instead of the Moby. Saving a few bucks wasn't worth it folks 😅
If you're struggling with finances or not, I think currently we all are. Have a think about making up a list of wants and must haves. If you have a family member living nearby such as a your own mom, sister or best friend, sit down with that person and leave the lists with her. Or even leave a list at a baby store that families usually buy from. Let that person be the go-between with Family and close friends, letting them know what you're needs and wants are. I would suggest new mom's to-be, waiting until your second trimester. Maybe they want to give you a birthday, Christmas, a Baby Shower or newborn baby gift but money is tight. One year of getting something practical for a mom or even a dad to-be, can be a blessing. Don't be proud being a first time mama, let your family and friends help you, including buying 2nd hand-baby items. Including from your family and friends Our middle niece when she was having her first baby, from the moment I first heard and until mom and newborn came home, I spent the time knitting and crocheting. I ended up filling a suitcase full of baby clothes for baby's first year of life that were season appropriate. Some commercial items were also included. Mom and Dad found it such a help not needing to spend money on baby clothes. All the very best for the remainder of your pregnancy and a safe arrival of your baby.
I have no idea what most of these things are... Here's what you get for not being a native English speaker.. It would be nice to have pictures next to items. :/
Just wanted to remind mamas who may be discouraged by brand name recommendations that aren’t affordable for most families. There are amazon equivalents that are less than half the price and work just the same. The quality I would say is equally dependable as well. So don’t see “must have products” and panic like your baby won’t have nice things do research and find affordable equivalents that are just as nice. Also every changing pad even the cheapest ones have wipable waterproof surfaces that you can cover or not or just use a disposable pad like a puppy pad for easy cleaning and less laundering. Not sure why it seems to be such a struggle for baby product reviewers to find solutions 😂
And you can get some secondhand, from friends/family/once upon a child/thrifting. A lot of baby products only get used a few times, either the baby outgrows it or it wasnt a good fit for that baby&mom. Especially if you are unsure if itll work, try the cheaper one/thrift it used!
I loved this video! Also a fan of co-sleeping. Whit my 2 kids. Im know pregnant of baby 3, how nice it wil be to co sleep again. Really love youre vlogs❤❤❤
I was curious to watch this video and it was the most interesting , most greatest video like ever . I loved this a bunch. Id watch it again and again. What a beautiful beautiful video and family
For a wipeable changing table. We got the hatch brand. I REALLY recommend especially if you area first time mom and plan to breastfeed or you just want to make sure baby is getting enough milk those first few weeks etc. it tracks their weight! It’s actually VERY accurate I loved it 🥰
I had this one but the glitches with the app drove me crazy! I wish it would just show the weight right on the scale rather than needing to use your phone. It wouldn’t connect more often than not.
My cycle is giving me the craziest baby fever again, it’s so sad to me that it’s gonna take years until I am finally ready to have a baby 🥲🤍 but until then I live watching your videos
Patience is a virtue! I started watching Delilah shortly after she gave birth to Eloise, and felt the exact same way. 6 years later, I have a Drs appointment tomorrow to see if I’m healthy enough to start trying. It’s worth the wait simply because it makes it so much more exciting when you do get to start trying!
As someone who completed the two week wait and is now 8 weeks preg with my first. I would say KEEP YOURSELF BUSY! However that may look for you, the two week wait can feel like it’s taking forever and have you so so antsy! Also, watching two week wait videos by other mamas kinda gave me something to do and I enjoyed seeing everyone else’s experience but this may add even more anxiety or stress for some during the two week wait depending on them. It didn’t for me. Also, track n write down what your feeling each day and when testing day comes, understand that the test may or may not disappoint you. Goodluck mama! Sending baby dust. ❤️
You might try the cup/disk method, I've also heard people say to take mucinex? They won't help with your 2 week wait, but worth looking into if you don't get those 2 lines this time. Good luck!
Maybe because she decided to show her kids less 😢 I hate it for us because I love seeing normal families living their daily quite life but its best for her and those kiddos because the world in an ugly place
So much grace - I can’t imagine the weight and responsibility of having a channel with such a large, deeply invested following. Wish the updates regarding changes had come first, though.
Do you feel the branch basics laundry detergent cleans your clothes well? I am looking to switch to something more natural, especially because my baby has eczema, but I’ve heard mixed reviews on the laundry detergent actually working.
as a mama who has lost a baby to sids, I highly disagree with many of the sleep related suggestions.
And most importantly, I’m so, so sorry for your loss 💔😢
I am so sorry for your loss. I strongly hope that all mommy influencers are aware of their influence on (new) parents and take responsibility accordingly. (For example: Over 1 in 3 parents have bought a baby sleep product they’ve seen on social media that goes against safer sleep advice, a survey by The Lullaby Trust finds. )
@@katiewatts8046 even Snuggle Me themselves states is unsafe for sleep!
Things I used with all 4 of my children:
1. Mamaroo
2. Burp cloths
3. Binky
4. Playmat
Honestly same!!
Such a great list! Just FYI, though the Snuggle Me and most loungers aren't approved for safe sleep. xx
Also the weighted sacks
This! I would hate for a new mom to think "it's cute" or "comfortable" because it's simply not safe.
i'm in Canada as well and my second born, daughter, sleeps in the snuggleme (for now) just like my son did for a little bit. they can't roll over or move to their side at all. my babies love(d) the snuggleme until they became more mobile & would roll over to either their tummy to sleep or side. we also just started using sleepsacks for her but absolutely not weighted ones. i actually never heard of weighted ones until just now aside from the nested bean ones if that were to even count as a weighted sleepsack, i feel as though baby would struggle to move or if they're on their backs, struggle to breathe properly as well
Yall in the comments understand that safety recommendations / regulations differ from country to country right??
I feel like companies really try to take advantage of families at this time , telling them they need stuff that they really don’t.
right?!? boggles my brain.
right!! like $200 on a changing pad, $200 on a diaper bag, $180 on a pillow??? insane!
And 60-80$ wrap that’s like a large scarf come on now
1000%
Items I do use :
- baby bath insert (one for newborns and one for when they can sit up but aren’t sturdy)
- carriers
- swaddle blankets (not the Velcro ones tho)
- breastfeeding pillow
- baby bouncer
- baby saline mist spray and snot sucker
- diapers and wipes
- boobs
Boobs are top on our list 😂
@@KHomesteadsame here🤣🤣
Boobs 😅😂😂
I dont know why "boobs" was so funny 😂😂
The items I didn’t use are :
- a crib (haven’t used it except for as storage😂)
- a bassinet (I ended up just using it as a nightstand)
- a wipe warmer (was gifted 2 and have never even read the manual)
- burp cloths (my baby never spits up)
- washcloths (idk how but I accumulated around 50 of these and I don’t ever use them)
- bottles
- a baby swing (they’re expensive and bulky, a bouncer works just fine)
- HER STROLLER (don’t get me wrong I’ve used it, but rarely, she rather be held and it’s big and a hassle to get out)
- lotion, eczema stuff, cradle cap stuff, gas relief drops, etc (breast milk works great for a lot of stuff)
- changing mat (always just changed her on the bed)
- organic nipple butter (emphasis on organic, you don’t even have to wipe it off before feeding!)
- diaper rash cream (never has had a diaper rash, but if it looked like she was going to I just used my organic nipple butter)
Sleepsacks are great for older babies especially if they're climbers to prevent jailbreaks from the cot 😂
Defs agree! My baby was in one from 6Months, and I’ve just bought one each for my 3 year old and 5 year old! (Mainly to make laundry day easier) 😄
I did this up until my 2 year old figured out how to unzip, strip and then jumped out of the crib.... then we had to change everything 🤣
Put the sleep sacks on backwards! It’ll give you more time in the cot
Yes, all my babies rolled around like crazy in their cots once they could roll so a sleep sack was necessary to keep them warm overnight. We live in a sub tropical climate so our houses aren't heated but in winter the temperature inside can drop below 10°C.
Done with the new born stage not having more babies, and still want to watch this video 😂 that's how much I love your content!
My son is 3 and we still use that exact tub from the thumbnail. We don’t have a tub in our bathroom so he still sits in it to prevent falls. I love how it is so inexpensive and it grew with him. If we had a tub I’m sure we would still use it as it is more secure and keeps him in place.
Same.
absolutely agree!! my son is about to be 2 next week & we still use our tub for babies, it was also the kind that grew with him! all we had to do was remove the mesh part once he could sit up and stay in place:)
Delilah saying boogers will never not be funny to me! 🤣
how she said puree when she was making baby food was my personal favorite.
My husband is Canadian and says boogers like this as well! Didn’t realize it was a Canadian thing lol!
Boooooogers 😂 love it
Booogers! 👻
She said it soooooo many times too ☠️☠️☠️
I agree with many of these!
Must haves:
Guava Family Lotus Bassinet/Crib (used as main and travel bed)
Infant Optics Camera
Hatch Sound Machine
Happiest Baby Swaddle (never could get the hang of non-velcro swaddling)
Tommee Tippee Pacifiers
Lovevery Play Mat
Only had one baby (so far), but these would be my must-haves:
Haaka Silicone Pump
Lots of burp clothes
Breastfeeding pillow
Portable changing mat
Sleep sack (I'm just not good at swaddeling)
A safe place for doing tummy time
Babycarrier of some sort
And lots and lots of love and patience ❤
Thats it!
Thank you!! I am that first time mom totally lost in the world of baby products. This is so helpful!
Edit: Delilah said on insta it was uploaded accidentally before sponsor approval, and will hopefully be up on Friday instead!
Same here thought it was just me!
Same! I watched like 5 minutes of it and went back to finish it and it was gone!
Okay good, I thought it had been a dream or something 🤣
Same
I wondered that and I just thought something had gone wrong with the video xx
None of my babies liked swaddling, they preferred their arms up and free. Even if I took the hands out, they would still wiggle out of it eventually. The sleeping sack worked better for us. They were secure, had enough room to move their feet in there and their hands were free. So my conclusion to each their own. I would agree on the boogers sucker though. 😊
So true! Not all babies enjoy a swaddle. My first absolutely hated it and would be angry until we would take it off. But he was like that with socks, hats etc too 😅 he was all about freedom! 😂
My second and third loved it. My fourth didnt really seem to care, but she would be cold so fast. I used 2 layers of warm clothes, and a hat, sleeping bag and warm blanket… plus i would leave on a electric heater at night. And she would still be cold!! 😮
Really all babies are different. Thats why i would never suggest to buy all these expensive things, but just give it some time to try with a cheaper version or second handed. In the end you will only use it for so long…
Interesting, I thought this was universal! All 3 of mine were calmer when swaddled. Dunno if they liked it though. I liked it 😂😂
@@beans4853 i’m sure most babies will like it.
3. Glass bottles avent brand, I ended up having to formula feed and these bottles are so
I nice for warming and staying warm.
We have 2 kiddos and we use the Ubbi diaper pail we love it! We cloth diaper so we use reusable/washable bags. But the ubbi works with any trash bags!
She look so gorgeous at 6 weeks postpartum I pray I look even half as amazing as she does
I love sleep sacks, I have many kinds for different seasons etc.
Roughly 70% of “Sids” deaths happen within 72 hours of a “wellness” visit with babies.
Swaddles are the issue with “Sids”.
My baby most definitely needed a sleep sack. She broke out of swaddles. Did not like dummys (pacifier). And i found having a change table very useful. So they are very different
I always love these lists!!
All of my babies have been so different
First born: baby swing & ring sling
Second born: Moses basket & snuggle me
Third: toddler floor bed
Things none of my babies ever used:
Bottles
Pacifiers
Swaddles
Socks or shoes
Crib
Baby tub (used it once with first then literally trashed it, I also shower/bathe with my babies & kids 🤷🏻♀️ it’s faster)
Changing table or pad 😅I have the same one for all 3 kids and usually just change them in the floor
When asked by FTM for must haves I say:
Car seat (I used to say convertible ones until baby 3 but the infant one is definitely a must sadly if you only have one baby splurge and get the like travel set that’s the car seat & stroller combo, I don’t have it but if recommend the same one mentioned in the video Uppa Baby Vista or the Evenflo Pivot Xpand)
Diapers of some kind, I’ve used both cloth & disposables, it honestly depends on the kid. My oldest I clothed when she was older and mobile, my middle child was clothed from the day he came home from the hospital until he became mobile and my most recently has only worn cloth a handful of times she has a wetness sensitivity and nothing I do helps except disposables and even with them she can only wear 4 specific brands or she gets a huge rash
Zipper footie pjs!! Just buy a handful in a few sizes and that’s all they need in the early months
Lastly BOOBS 😂
I’d add a baby carrier in there but that’s major trial and error finding what your baby likes I’ve tried them all. First loved ring slings then buckle carrier until she was 3. My middle loved wraps then buckle carrier until he was 3. My youngest hates me worn no matter what carrier it is. But she loves being held and carried but don’t I dare try to put her in a carrier 😅
I agree with a lot of these but oh my gosh I LOVE sleep sacks.
I guess our bed is cosier 😂
this video could not come at a better time! 6 weeks pregnant with my first and lost in all the baby products!
Must haves for us:
A swing
Rocking chair
Velcro swaddles
Nursing pads
Bedside bassinet (I thought I would like cosleeping but didn’t)
Lovevery play gym
Baby bjorn carrier
Two things I thought my baby would love but he hated: Solly baby wrap and snuggle me lounger
Currently pregnant with our second child and I love this videos. However, our baby loves sleeping in sleep sacks and absolutely hates being swaddled(she needs space for her legs ). Can’t wait for our new baby to arrive ❤️
My first daughter hated being swaddled and we ended up loving the nested bean sleep sack/sleep onsies.
My baby loves sleep sacks and hated being swaddled! To any expecting mom or new mom wanting to buy a sleep sack, seach for the extendable ones that can be used for more time and to buy a TOG that is appropriate for the climate.
I always tell her mamas to get the snuggle me. I didn’t have it with my first but I’ve used it with all my babies since then and it’s a life saver!
I got it with my second and loved it so much, we bought the toddler version for my first born she was 4 at the time. I now have 3 kids and we still love them! We have 2 toddler and an infant one
wipe warmer for late fall/winter babies is really nice. never used a pacifier or a crib or swaddles 😬
Wish we would have invested in a double stroller with our first but didn’t get a nice amazing one until pregnancy with our 4th lol. Had it two years now and 100% had its money worth of use. We use it every single day. We love it.
You are the reason I've started going to thrift stores looking for wicker baskets
thank you for making these videos, im looking forward to motherhood, it's nice to learn in advance. i LOVE the aesthetic of your house, minimal but quality wooden furniture and art. lots of love!
Absolut Must haves:
Carrier
Whool/Silk or cotton clothes
Hakaa
Wipeable Changing mat or table
Silver nipple shields
Nursing pads
Swaddle with valcro
Pure lanolin as nipple cream and butt cream
Best newborn item imo: Amazon gift card 👏🏽
Pregnant with my first baby and struggling to figure out what I need. I keep hoping to hear that I don’t need the $160 changing pad but everyone is recommending the keekaroo 😅
Helpful video!
From what I've seen, Moby is thicker and less stretchy. But either way, It'd be cheaper to make your own since its just a long piece of fabric
I love my diaper genie and if I get lucky I find the refills at the thrift store unopened lol!
This is a nice to have list. None of these are musts.
Amazing!! I just commented about a video like this earlier! Cant wait to watch. Thank you!!!
I’m currently 18 weeks pregnant with my first child; thank you for this, Delilah! Love from Michigan ❤
Including from your family and friends
Our middle niece when she was having her first baby, from the moment I first heard and until mom and newborn came home, I spent the time knitting and crocheting. I ended up filling a suitcase full of baby clothes for baby's first year of life that were season appropriate. Some commercial items were also included. Mom and Dad found it such a help not needing to spend money on baby clothes. All the very best for the remainder of your pregnancy and a safe arrival of your baby.
I always think wipes warmers were a waste. During that newborn stage i just use baby wash cloths and run some warm water over them.
I have no idea what most of these things are... Here's what you get for not being a native English speaker..
It would be nice to have pictures next to items. :/
Delilah ❤ your videos brighten my day! I pray you all are well ❤❤
This was so helpful! Thank you ☺️
Just wanted to remind mamas who may be discouraged by brand name recommendations that aren’t affordable for most families.
"Standing so tall" is a great resource for safe sleeping and breastfeeding
I was curious to watch this video and it was the most interesting , most greatest video like ever . I loved this a bunch. Id watch it again and again. What a beautiful beautiful video and family
I guess it depends on how you like to parent, there are many ways and some items are more important or not depending on what you choose to do
For a wipeable changing table.
I need that dress link 😍 (the one you’re wearing when showing the car seat/nursing cover)
My cycle is giving me the craziest baby fever again, it’s so sad to me that it’s gonna take years until I am finally ready to have a baby 🥲🤍 but until then I live watching your videos
Enjoy it now!!! I had so many beautiful years before I got pregnant and now I'm expecting my first in April ❤
Great video, as always! Any tips for the two week wait before the first pregnancy? ❤
@tyradenise8067 thanks for your kind words! I always thought it would go faster even though we're only in the third month of trying 😅
You might try the cup/disk method, I've also heard people say to take mucinex? They won't help with your 2 week wait, but worth looking into if you don't get those 2 lines this time. Good luck!
Love this!! I put off making my registry for the longest time because I was so overwhelmed with all of the different products for babies 😂
Haakka
Pacifiers
Burp cloths (I use cloth diaper inserts)
Sound machine
Would you be willing to film a video of your stroller, and show us how it works as a double stroller?
Me having my baby about two months ahead of Deliah and wishing I had been 2 mo behind, cause of all the content she's posted after I wanted it
Do you not use cloth diapers anymore?
Where is that bassinet from?
Has anyone else noticed that several of her older videos have disappeared (become private, I think)? 😢
Yes! I noticed that too 🙁
Aw which ones?
Many of them.
Hi Delilah! Where is your beautiful baby crib from?
Do you feel the branch basics laundry detergent cleans your clothes well? I am looking to switch to something more natural, especially because my baby has eczema, but I’ve heard mixed reviews on the laundry detergent actually working.
“Boooooo geez” 🤣
Can't wait to watch this later! I'm 14 weeks with my first and so unsure what I actually need 😂❤
Loved the way you said boggers 😅 xx
My biggest regret was the snuggle me 🤣 my baby's hated it, this time I'm not even bothering lol i sold it after the last baby
Same, not to mention the anxiety I felt anytime she was sleeping in it since it can cause suffocation. 👀
@@springmore oh yes, so then you only use it when you're watching them closely and I'd rather just hold them or wear them at that point lol
Boo-gers lol just in time for Halloween 😂
(This is said with love! I think this is such a cute way of saying it, might tech my daughter to say it this way!)
Weighted sleep sacks are not AAP recommended or safe sleep. Having the SnuggleMe in the bassinet is also not recommended or safe sleep.
