Momma of MANY here! Amen to the burp cloths and baby bath tub. After using them for awhile with our first, I learned quickly that “receiving blankets” make the best burp cloths. They are just a great multi-purpose item! I ditched the clunky always in the way baby tub for the simple, cute bear sponge bath tub pad things for all my babies. Like the towel idea, I laid it in a just enough warm water to keep my washcloths wet and the baby to kick their feet in. It was so easy to drain the tub, squeeze out the water from the bath sponge mat, lean it against the tub or ledge and let it air dry. ❤ I’m a 55 year old momma of 11, and have been a foster momma to many! Our children are currently aged 13-26 and we have 6 grandchildren so far! I relished and adored all the baby stages! It’s so special! ❤ Psalm 127, II Corinthians 9:8, and Ephesians 3:14-21 blessings to you and your family! I am so thankful for your channel, sis! I enjoy it very much! 😊

I hate the bath tubs and burp cloths so much too lol. The bath tub doesn't feel safe for a newborn and mine didn't like them then when they're able to sit up they don't want to be in it anyways. I just bathe them in the sink after watching my mom do it for years, its easier on the back too lol. The burp cloths weren't very absorbant but my kids were super spitters so I got high quality cloth diapers and used them instead. All the burp cloths I was given actually just are rags in my kitchen to clean things up now, they're too small and don't absorb well for spit up but work ok to scrub the stove or something lol. Wanted to say good on you for adopting 11 though, my husband was one of 12 his single dad adopted too and can't imagine the experience that comes with that lol! Makes me feel like I had a small family even though my parents had 5 kids and a home daycare lol.

Wow you are so amazing ❤ children are so wonderful and truly a blessing. I’m one of 6 and my parents are 65 with almost 17 grandchildren and way more to come! The joy they have is insane. I’m on my 3rd baby and want as many as God wills. All my siblings have their children too except my last little brother in college. Praise God 😊

In Norway the (public, we don't have any private) midwifes encourage to bite the babys nails, so it´s totally normal! The jumper (if it's the one where the baby uses its feet to bounce on the floor) is forbidden, because it can cause problems with the hips (when grown up - my husband has that...). We didn't use pacifiers for our daughter and didn't have a nursery (nobody does over here, the baby usually sleeps in the parents bedroom until turning one year old. And that was even before I became a minimalists! Even though I'm not the audience for this video, I love that you share, because there are so much unnecessary things made for babies (just to earn money).

@@rebekahsummers4953 The same! And in Norway we have 49 weeks full paid leave (some people from other countries think it's not true). The mother usually takes out the most, but the father must take min. 15 weeks (or they are lost). (It was 12 weeks ten years ago.) And birth at the hospital is all free.

I have five who are now teens or tweens. My advice on the pacifier is to follow your child’s instincts about it. I had one child who used a pacifier constantly and some who just weren’t interested at all. I think it just depends on your individual child and what they need. And be open to changing your mind. It’s okay if you think you don’t want to use one and end up doing it because it just isn’t possible to have a constantly nursing baby with two other small children who also need your care. That’s not a failure. It’s just changing your mind. I was so hard on myself about things like that, thinking I “failed” if something didn’t go the way I planned. That’s my biggest piece of advice for new moms: be open to doing it differently than you expected. That also applies to accepting help from dad and other family members who don’t do things the way you might. Different doesn’t mean it’s wrong. As long as baby is healthy and fed and cared for, it all turns out just fine.

    • @mariocartel544
      @mariocartel544 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

I'm one of five and my mom said with the paci, every other kid took it from the younger siblings with the way we were spaced lol(my brother was first then me 18 months later, he took mine so I didn't use it, 5 years later my sister was born and 2 years after my next sister who got her pacis stolen too, then 5 years later my youngest sister had hers to herself lol). My kids haven't taken to pacis so far, I appreciate it because it's one less thing to clean but didn't care if they used it either way because it's soothing for some babies so id just have delt with washing it if they liked it just like the bottles or anything else. Not something worth driving yourself nuts on, most kids give them up pretty early on anyways and nobody's packing a paci on their way to kindergarten lol.

  • @gracehawes9185

Love love this video! I’m preparing for my second babe due early october and totally taking all your thoughts & ideas & inspiration into my life. I love you minimalism outlook and it’s becoming really important to me too after relazing how much of a money scam the baby market is , and all markets lol, and how I totally absolutely got sucked into that for my first! Lots of purging of clothes & toys, excessive blankets from my first before second gets here and it feels so good! I cannot wait to continue going through stuff and getting rid of everything unnecessary.
We far as paci, we used one if absolutely needed- like if I for some reason wasn’t able to nurse because dad had her or if I was really struggling with getting sleep one night. But honestly- bigger pain having one like you said, making sure one is near/clean/that you have extras. I plan to not resort to one either unless I feel it’s necessary? But with nursing 24/7 I don’t think i’ll be needing it haha.
Love the arms out swaddle idea! Wow it was so rough transitioning my first to arms out- I plan to start arms out from beginning too. Have you heard of the podcast birthing instincts? Love this podcast so much. Their focus is on how to break free/ maintain sovereignty with the medical system & view birth as a non medical event. They did an awesome podcast with a IBCLC, episode 292 and they talked about benefits of not swaddling, one reason being for integration of reflexes & just keeping that baby close to boob! haha it was great and eye opening.
Love the tallow product! I have one too that I plan to use for babe. I also love how you said we totally don’t need baby specific soap/towels/shampoo and long as you have clean ingredient non toxic products why would you need anything more? Why didn’t I have that realization too ?! Gahhhhh the control the market has on us to think we always need more & to not trust our intuition!!
So excited for you and your family & can’t wait to continue following your journey!

As a mom of 3, this is excellent advice. Wisdom I wish I had learned sooner than I did 😅 Less is better with the approaching full season of adjusting to a new family member & rhythm. Babies don’t need much & from recent experience, actually turn out more resilient & i’d dare say, more emotionally intelligent without all ‘the stuff’. Good job mom!

Just here for loving your channel! I already had my fourth baby 8 months ago but we didn’t go crazy. We donated or have to friends and family a lot of what we had after our 3rd 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ so I went very minimal or bought second hand if we absolutely needed something. I love things that are multipurpose or grow with baby.
Edit: I live in MO too and for the summer, I literally only purchased 11 onesies. He’s home with me 24/7 since I’m still working from home. I have a romper a couple pairs of shorts if we do go somewhere but we’re usually with family so just a onesie has never been an issue in the hot weather!

My 2nd child was exclusively breastfed and I only had the pacifier from the hospital or from a baby registry welcome bag. She never took the pacifier and we learned that it wasn't needed at all. I was her comfort (breastfeeding) whenever she needed it. It was a tough adjustment, but worth it!

I’m a mama x3 and I love most of your advice on here! Muslin blankets also make great bath towels since they are so absorbent! I wish I had an adult size one because they dry so quickly. My best minimalist advice is to wait to buy anything until you need it. Every one of my three kids had different difficulties and different needs. Since we can get almost anything to our fingertips within a couple days, it’s best to wait, and buy something when you need it. I went super minimalist with my third baby and it was so much less stressful because there was not a lot of excess!❤

I don’t have babies, but my mother used to babysit a lot and she kept a stash of those double-layered muslin cloths. I took a few of these in my new home and have been using them as hand towels ever since. They are even gentle enough to be used on my face, and absorbent enough for sponging wet hair. They dry fast and don’t pill… they’re also less bulky than sponge towels, so easier to store away.
Amen for adult-sized ones as well!

I cut down clutter of a baby bath tub with my third baby by just bathing with my baby lol. I would just carry them into the tub with me and hold them and clean them. It was so special and such an added bonding experience with my baby 🥰 I also bit my newborns’ nails myself too! So much easier and also safer because I could feel with my mouth where to bite off and what would hurt them.

On my third boy also. He’s 5 weeks. We did pacifier. I preferred it for purposes of not wanting my son to self soothe. With a a pacifier you can always remove. At a certain age we only allowed pacifiers during nap times. As for finally being done with it I let him know ahead of time that that was his last pacifier and once it was torn he was to toss it and he did! Very cooperative 😊

I agree with absolutely everything. My 3rd is 6 weeks old now. We are unfortunately using smelly diapers for her newborn phase because it's all we can afford now, but as soon as she's big enough, maybe another month, she'll be in the cloth diapers that I've used for the other 2!
We used a paci for my 1st, he had horrible tongue tie and lip tie and was causing me a lot of pain. So my nipples needed a break haha. He only used it for a few months and then everything was fine thereafter. My other 2 haven't used one at all.
We have clip baby clothes but that's just because we haven't bought any baby clothes! Everything is hand me downs!
Tips for milk supply, along with eating enough nutrient dense food as you said, you can also supplement with fennel tea (I make tea with fennel, nettle and raspberry leaf for all the awesome benefits) and brewer's yeast tablets. And remember the rule of supply and demand, the more baby drinks, the more milk you will make. And do what you can to avoid stress.
    Awesome list and awesome video!

Love this video. I'm due my second in October, and there's so much i won't be buying this time round. This will be my partners first child, and he was messaging me the other day with things he had found for baby, getting himself completely overwhelmed with everything out there, when i told him what we actually needed he was like 'oh is that it'😂.
With the pacifier, i'm on the fence with this. I used one for my first, and it was a blessing a lot of the time, but it definitely added unnecessary stress. I think i'm going to have one on standby, just in case, but try to get by without using it.

So right- I had 2, my sister had 6 and my daughter had 5. Our combined knowledge agrees with your advice. Baby bathing is just easier and the right height at the kitchen sink. All of us had cloth diapers for cost savings and fear of running out of disposables without funds for more. We all also used the disposable ones but cloth got all of us through the hard times economically. Wet facecloths work well instead of wipes.

I keep going back & forth about a baby bathtub bc we have only a shower. Also I feel the same about pacifiers, don’t want them to depend on it, but might be nice to have for first & cause me less stress. I have no idea what I’m getting into but thank you for this video & reminder I’ll be the best mom for our baby.

Mom of 2 here! We never used pacifiers or swaddles. Both my kids broke out of the swaddles in the hospital! Seriously! The nurses were even shocked. So no swaddles for them. And the pacifiers were also a hard pass for them both. Nurses tried giving it to them and they spit them out. So yeah, you can totally pass on both if you want.
Also, the Muslin Cloths are the absolute best things ever! Both my kiddos were very spitty babies! The large size of the cloths saved me many times! I always give these as baby shower gifts!

I had WAY TOO much stuff. In fact, the stress of all the stuff from the baby shower, I swear, was the reason I went into premature labor! LESS IS MORE!! And if you get in the habit right off the bat, you won't buy too many toys as your kids get older. We wasted so much money, my son didn't like any of it, and it sits in your basement getting spider-y until you give it away. I am so glad you made this video!!!!!!! Hello! I saw your video just now. And I agree with almost everything you said.
I don't know if I am late to discuss the pacifier topic but I live in India and pacifiers aren't really a thing here. I knew about it, thought about it and decided against it for the simple reason that I didn't want to first start a bad habit and then stop it.
I have a very high-maintanance baby, I have had my share of challenges to the point of complete mental and physical breakdowns. But I am gradually coming out of it now.
And I am really thankful that I chose to teach healthy habits and stuck to them even when it seemed impossible. Now, I have a really sweet, well-mannered, resilient, understanding and intelligent toddler who knows why we do what we do.
Keep at it, they get it eventually.

Yessssss to ALL of this!!! 💯 👏 I absolutely agree that a new mama doesn't need all of these things. Companies profit on so many things to separate mama and baby and make money from items being sold that are unnecessary. Have you ever been told that your voice is very calming?? I'm wondering if you can make a video on dealing with and overcoming anxiety and fear on having more children?? I do not have my mother to help me and my in laws refuse to. We did not use a pacifier! My son is 13 months now, and I don’t regret it. I actually found it helped with my milk supply too. He doesn’t suck his thumb either, but we did buy a rubber “bear” with something for him to chew on when he was teething so he didn’t default to his thumb (no shame for thumb sucking babies, I’m just trying to avoid braces over here $$$). He would also suck on his Muslin swaddle/blanket thing. He does not have a bad habit from that either.
Good luck to you either way!

Getting used to noise is very real because once my mother told me that when I returned home after giving birth to me, my neighbor who was a teacher, his students were singing to him (a tradition in my country, the students in their final year of high school going to the teachers' house and singing to them and celebrating with them overall) and my father told my mother that he was going to ask them to lower the volume but she said no because I had to get used to the noise since we lived in in front of a very busy boulevard and says that later she could go to fairs and everything with me without making any problems because of the noise

My first hardly took a pacifier so honestly if she was fussy I just nursed her (which might help with your milk supply too) so like you said your baby really just needs you. Also I had an over supply problem so I needed to change my nursing bra frequently because of leaks even with absorbent nursing pads that I would double up so that was fun I would not survive with only 1 (or maybe even 2) nursing bras lol! I used pacifiers with my first two children. My second child had a super easy transition of letting them go, by having a celebration where we left the pacifiers on the front doorstep and the paci fairy came in the middle of the night and replaced them with a gift for my child. She never asked for one again! Made using a pacifier so much more pleasant when she easily gave them up (my first was a little harder to wean). I just gave birth to my third child and she hates pacifiers! I actually felt a huge wave of relief not having to worry about having them around, bringing them with us, forgetting them, dropping them on a disgusting floor somewhere, weaning, etc. I guess she chose, but I’m thankful she did, and at 4 weeks old it’s worked out great for our family ❤

Use a paci! I didn’t with my first and then she wouldn’t take one but was incredibly fussy and would suckle on the breast 24/7. I was miserable, she was miserable. It made car rides and overnights so much harder. I used a paci with my second and had a much more peaceful post Partumn experience and didn’t have any issues with attachment for nursing.

I bit my son's nails too when he was a baby. And I have never even heard about wipes warmers. Totally new to me! But, about the pacifier. My advice is simply to not try to give your baby a pacifier at all. When I gave birth, I didn't want to give my son a pacifier even though we bought one. I simply lulled him to sleep and soothed him at the breast. When he fell asleep, I would just separate him from the breast and put him to crib. That's how we functioned from the beginning and it was not difficult at all without a pacifier. ❤️ I love your minimal approach to baby products. I didn't want a bunch of stuff too. I remember listening to my friends and other moms talking about all the lotions, cream, soaps they used and I thought how much I don't want to use all those toxins. So I bathe him in warm water with few drops of almond oil, and care for his skin after by using my homemade whipped butter from shea butter and bunch of good oils. We use it even now, and he is almost two years old. I use it on myself too. So keep up with simplicity. It truly is the best way.

No paci mama here! My son didn’t keep one in his mouth to begin with so I didn’t force it. He’s a big nurser so he did nurse for comfort some times but I didn’t mind. Would have been simpler to get him to take a paci at the start for that time frame but honestly so thankful he doesn’t care for them, but also he didn’t like a bottle either LOL so idk if it was any of my doing and all my baby’s preferences 😂😂

My first never took a pacifier and I was hesitant anyways! Nursed on demand & to sleep, learn about non nutritive suckling, in the early days if I was sore we let her suck our pinky, find a way to comfortably nurse in public, remember that pacifiers are to mimic the breast!

  • @heidicoffman3762
    @heidicoffman3762 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

I did offer the pacifier to my son but he refused it after two months because I always offered the breast first before I offered the pacifier, it can be done without but it puts a bit more pressure on you, cause then you’re the only comfort. I’ve don’t both with and without pacifiers and I think it just depends on the kid and where you’re at in your life.

We don’t use pacifiers or swaddles. Out of four boys we have one thumb sucker and one finger sucker. To get them to sleep we did give them all a little blankey and we put them on their belly to sleep as long as they were able to lift their head. You might still be opposed to those 2 things 😅 but they have all been really good sleepers for the most part.

I've had 3 kids and on to a grandson. Pacifiers- I say leave it up to the baby. My 2nd child sucked his thumb, my 3rd had a pacifier. It was easier to get her off the pacifier than it was to stop the thumb sucking. If you need to decide I would try nothing, if they need it for comfort I say go pacifier!
