    Just update from my previous comment. this method REALLY WORKS !! and better than just glue/ tie-ing moss on hard scape. i use rather difference things and method. changed yogurt with leftover soil and just chop the moss (i use fissiden), no need blender. fungus will grow ( on wood, not on rocks) but does not bother the moss much. in about 2 or 3 weeks the moss starting to grow.
    so, if anyone care to try this method, i really recommend it. the only thing important is keep the moisture. i might add link to the result pic later.
    thanks to Nigel for share this method !!

    • @NigelAquascaping
      @NigelAquascaping  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey thanks for sharing your experience. Chopping up works also indeed. You can also just use chopped moss or blend with Ro water. The yoghurt is just a little detail that may help if used correctly. Mold can also grow on rocks. Just keep removing and increase ventilation when one observes it.

      @@sitfish1113 I didn't do it on the rocks, unfortunately. I tried to start a carpet of dwarf hairgras and hydropiper. It didn't grow out too well over the course of 4 weeks. I don't run CO2, so it didn't grow into a full carpet when I flooded either.
      However I decided to go more dutch influenced and have heavily planted with a lot of stems instead and it's going really well.

      Thanks. Not sure about yoghurt with HC. Just keep Enough ventilation like 2 openings or so. Honestly I only like dry start to attach moss to hardscape. I don’t dry start with plants. I add them when dry start with moss is done and then flood. If you have co2 (which I assume with HC) I Would just try to plant them well in substrate and flood straight.

    How exactly does yogurt help against molds,since they prefer acidic conditions? It sounds like a nice nutritious substrate for mold cultivation.

    • @NigelAquascaping
      @NigelAquascaping  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some Greek yoghurt contains Lactobacillus acidophilus bacteria which is helpful against fungus. But I only recommend to use very small amounts of yoghurt. Otherwise diminishing returns seems to kick in fast.

    Keep on the awesome work ^^

    • @NigelAquascaping
      @NigelAquascaping  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I use the lights for 12 hours a day. I tried low light and high light both worked with fissidens. Riccardia is a light lover for sure. So with riccardia maybe use a bit more. Don't go to far on the light as you might risk to burn the moss. Normally when you have a led model for the size of your tank your fine with full power.

But it also depends on the hardscape that you use if it will work well. You can also glue Christmass and flame moss as they grow relative fast and are not so expensive.

Other more coarse mosses like xmass moss, I would chop it with a knife and rub/push against the hardscape or glue. To make it more interesting you can use different species in a layout.
